Interplay signs MMO deal with Masthead Studios

/Sigh... If I remember correctly at the time H bought Interplay, the 6 month intrest rate was about %3. I wish that H just banked his money and lived off the intrest instead of trying to run this business...

Anyway from Patriot 41's descriptions Interplay is having a marriage with another "I have a lot of money and I have no idea how to create something" owned company. Also considering the eastern block mentality of "Game" creation of lots of good concepts, average to extremely good looks, exteremely untidy coders, a very big hole in the scenario department... I am not sure this bodes well for the old Black Isle crew in Interplay.

To clarify 1 thing, I am bashing the eastern game development process. Compared to oriental and western games, the average eastern plot barely rates a D-. Then again sometimes you get a team like the Witcher's creators. (And curse them for their inept English translation. You had to mod the game like a madman to get the real text files which do compete with Torment in lenght sometimes. Ok. Calm. No rant. Sorry)

Just what the frak happened to complete, tide and enjoyable titles? Do I have to root for the next Valve/Blizzard/Rockstar game to see a decent title?

One thing is for sure, though - there's bound to be a lot of people who have actually played fallout. More then Beth, at least. I will apply for a job, if they start hiring, that's for sure.

Well, you can go ahead and apply because they're hiring... :D

Personally, I think this is a great fit for Interplay and Fallout Online, since these guys already have a wealth of experience creating a quality post-apocalyptic universe. Can't wait to see what they come up with.

Big deal.
I also do that sometimes.
When i have taken my cough syrap with e-morphine.

Bethesda lacks people with functioning brains. So pretty much anyone can design better. Without really trying. On a napkin.

Oblivion.
Fallout 3.
Current bethesda is awful, they cant do anything well except marketing.
I have read better cheap ass Commado stories. And thats pretty bad when Commando comics have better plots then your "10/10" RPGs...

Not even close.

Could you at least stick to only accusing us if you actually post earlier from now on? It saves a lot of grief.

So here is the 30 million dollar question:

Is Fallout Online simply going to be Earthrise with items, critters, and places renamed to fit Fallout lore, and the vault boy slapped all over everything?

Or or they going to remain two separate games?

I know most people here can't answer that question, but I'm sure someone who is lurking can.

Not that Herve ever learns anything from anybody, but the idea above was THE CORE problem that eventually tanked Star Wars Galaxies.

When was the last time a Fallout game was actually a Fallout game?

Tactics is X-com with the Brotherhood.
FOBOS is Dark Allaince with Pirates.
and Fallout 3 is Oblivion with guns ("in all the best ways!" - Tard Howard
Hell, even Fallout 2 is like a cliched caricature of Fallout.

MMO - like they can do this with Fallout without yet again jettisoning the PnP basis which was the series' raison d'etre.

I don't like MMOs, and I don't think that Fallout is so inherently great since it parted ways with it's creators.

I'm ambivalent about any project that calls itself Fallout but has neither the original developers nor any attempt to build upon the gameplay for which the series was founded.

Beelzebud: I would guess that Interplay developers will be given a copy of Earthrise to paint and decorate the engine / textures / ui / whatever with "fallout" then build up the map areas/quests and all the rest.

It wouldn't be that bad as E.R. would be launched before FO:OL and Interplay team could incorporate the E.R. patches into their game to make the game more polished when they release the MMO after E.R is over.

Actually Interplay could turn out a decent MMO of fallout title this way... Then again we have H...

What does Masthead gain from this? Well Interplay promises them to build another MMO based on their work and %50 of profits for that MMO... Not that bad decision actually, as Interplay will be able to create a new MMO with a very small cadre compared to other MMOs.... Time will tell.

It makes me feel good, because, unlike Bethesda, if they screw up that Fallout, they're near enough, so I can have my revenge!

Just kidding. Vandalism is stupid and does no good to anyone.

By the way, does anyone knows if V13 will be turn-based?

According to Chris Taylor, they're not just using the Earthrise engine, the Masthead people will be actively co-developing the game.

Blackened: Depends on what Interplay aims at. If they are going for a niche market MMO like Eve and the ooold SWG (Meaning a target of 100.000 to 500.000) they can try some new things (new relative to mmos that is) like turn based combat in some kind of "instances".

Then again they might decide to go battle the AAA titles half cocked. And unlike the normal games mmo titles who aren't good enough bite the dust very quickly.

Edit: Ausir: That may be good news if the help from Masthead is based on the programming side of the things and Chris's team does the content side of the things (and are not pressured too much to add 1337 content like boobs, more tits more skin more sex....). Thanks for the heads up :)

Nice scenery but is that all they have given out at the moment?
Guh. The number of RoUS' visible annoys me. Plus they have balliwogs.
Still, this news inspires a degree of hope. :|
