Is excessive longevity a universally undesireable prospect?

The effects of entropy are all the future has to look forward to. That and flying cars - just think of the accidents, it's going to be neat.

actually, and that is the funny part, we have been always connected.

At least in the past.

If you go back some 13 billion years or so, give or take a few million years, before time and space started to exist all the matter in the whole universe was concentrated in one single point, a singularity as far as I know. And everything, be it humans, animals, a rock or our sun consists of atoms and subatomic particles. The particles are the same over all those billion of years, because in our universe nothing gets destroyed it is only changing from one form to another. We, are just star dust. The carbon and hydrogen we have in our body was maybe created in some distant star. The oxygen in our lungs maybe once a part of a supernova. And all of it was once concentrated in one spot as particles so close to each other that the subatomic boundaries would not exist. You probably can not get closer then that.

So it isn't completely wrong or crazy to believe that we all have been once connected.

And who knows. Maybe we still are. One way or another.

"We are talking eternity here, you would forget all about them in a matter of centuries, maybe even less - hell you would forget about all human languages in a couple of million years, and in a few billion years you would probably not even know what the hell kind of creature you are, and your whole "self" would be something blurry. "

That's exactly it. How do you define death? If you forget about yourself and your past experiences, it's useless to talk about eternity. It just doesn't make a difference for you, because you'll be dead in a sense. This also applies to going vaggie while floating in space. You can do that in a home for freaky barbers anytime.
Our imagination is what helps us cope with the limits of our weak physical form. It is the tool that one day might enable us to achieve what you are seeking.
Until then it remains a theme of our self centered imagination.
