Jagged Alliance 2

I received Both JA1 and JA2 today seeing it is so praised for being a great game and to fill my collection.

I already own a copy of JA1 but with no ,manual so I never got into. Plus its like 10 years ago since I got it deliverd with my PC
 
Well JA1 playable, but i got bored around mid game in my last run about month ago. Probably because Ice demanded rise to his salary and I gave him 5% that didnt do so he quit, then went Magic then Scully because I fired earlier one of the other mercs. I have to start a day over if I want to avoid that and I just got my 1st M14!!!! *cry*

Yea, part of the fun of the game is dealing with those bastard Mercs. I remember the first time I played someone died and I just dumped the body in the river. The next day none of the mercs would do what I wanted.

Wining the game without saving and loading would be insane... I should try it some time.

It is turn based for starters. And it is not really a deep storyline RPG like Fallout 1&2. It is a lot more action. And it is really enjoyable because you have tons of variety.

Like someone said if you are a weapons freak, you will love it with 1.13. i wasnt a weapons freak before but i am now.

Well its a matter of taste really, guess there is some masochist part of me that enjoys that looooooooong battle. Besides its one of the few things that gives me challenge, its just pity it docent happen with other cities. I remember one game where I geared up, mined 2 sides and got mortars on roof. Start was good killed 1-2 waves without scratch, until l suddenly Reaper is shot in the back on top of the roof by 3 greyshirts. From there my brilliant victory went out of window. The 2 sides that weren't covered swarmed with greyshirts, suddenly it turned to last stand Buzz taking the bullet, well at least Lynx died happy knowing she was wasted before him.

Hehe, how did you get them to work together? Buzz would tear Lynx's heart out.

Also, can somebody translate Ivan's comments from Ukrainian?

Last, working with a custom squad of six IMP mercs is a blessing.

I usually give myself enough money to hire specific nr of mercs. Most of these have love and hate relationships. To get them you have to hire all of them for 2 weeks, at start before you insert into combat. Lastly im starting to use psycho teams Meltown, Buzz, Fidel etc, oh the carnage and gore. :mrgreen:

Oh about Ivan he only talks russian in JA1. IN JA2 he talks mostly english.

I found 1 custom merc works fine to me, others vise there is less space for NPCs.

Anyways, does anyone know where the fuck are the dialogue files and/or Ira's Arulco tour voice clips located? I've spend three hours plowing through the files to no-fucking-avail.

What are you talking about, Ivan always spoke Russian, in both JA and JA2.
 
I've found an explanation that Ivan actually speaks Ukrainian rather than Russian. The two are quite similiar.

Also, I found one thing on the net... did Fidel kill Hurl?

You might have a regional version, because in JA2 he speaks broken english and yes sometimes in russian.

Back to topic, I hope one of the future projects to go through will be more attachment slots. That way guns with "picatinny rail" will become more useful.
 
I just tried that 1.13 thingy. I was just attacked by 70! soldiers including many elite guys. I'm on day two and playing on normal difficulty. Is that supposed to happen? I have four mercenaries including my own guy and Ira and I'm kinda having quite a hard time.

Congrats you just discovered Drassen counter attack!:mrgreen: If your mercs will be alive after that encounter consider your financial problems over and your skilz are l33T in JA2..
 
I should've read this thread more thoroughly. I read all the posts here but that must've slipped. :mrgreen:
That hit me totally unexpected, my mercs were training milicia/healing wounds and scattered around the map. I'll have to load an older savegame and put them on a central roof or something. I guess that's the safest way.
 
It is a very fun, intense battle though. So lets hear everyone's favourite weapons. I didnt play much yet as i discovered this topic during my finals which i am still in but so far i am loving VSS Vintorez.

Makes night ops kinda like cheat.

I am really interested to read others' favourites on 1.13 as well.

Night ops a cheat? Try attacking the Alma SAM site at night on hard difficulty. My mercs had finished a sweet approach to the left fence, and were in the process of cutting their way in.

Suddenly, a red shirt pops up at the roof of one of the bunkers. He spots my main IMP merc (Slevin Kelevra) and starts taking potshots, missing or grazing him.

After Slevin cut his way in, popped that mofo's head like a grape, he stood in front of the hole that he cut. The other mercs couldn't go in.

No sweat, I thought, one more turn and I'll be out of combat mode.

A greyshirt popped out of the corner and fired a burst at my other mercs. Several wounds, nothing critical, about 1/3 of the life bar.

I then heard a sound that I hoped that I would never hear: klunka! hisss...BOOM! The damn assholes hit my mercs with a mortar. Buns caught fire and ended up in a nice pile of ashes. Igor was knocked out, my other two IMP mercs ended up critical and started bleeding.

Fortunately, mighty Ivan was waiting with one of our mortars. I sent Ira with Dimitri to provide cover and render medical assistance. Slevin and Milkman (a bald, black IMP grenadier) mopped up the rest of the base. Poor Buns!
 
Yea, one thing that always really bother me about JA2 was that I'd have a full night ops squad with NV or UV goggles crawling through the bushes in stealth mode, sneaking up to the enemy and 10 squares before I could see them, they'd see me and open fire from a standing position.

It was pretty lame, there was no reason for the enemy to see me from there and it happened quite often. The other thing I hated was how the elites would interupt my mercs, turn around to face me, fire five shots and then run 6 squares to cover.

In a game like JA2 were being wounded has so many negitive effects on your guys and losing a merc is almost is so painful, it really should be easier to sneak up on the enemy.
