Jason Anderson goes from Interplay to InXile

Am I the only one who's saddened by this news? I wasn never excited about FOOL but I really wanted Interplay to make a comeback. They were responsible for some of my favorite games.

It's not the company so much but, the people who made it and all those people left IP. A lot ofthe people form the 2D era left some major companies hell i think a good chunk of them work for Blizzard now.

I think they are holding their cards close to their chest on the inXile RPG because right now their revenue streams are the Linerider DS game and some iPhone games. Bard's Tale only got so-so reviews and sales back in 2004. Right now for inXile a lot is riding on their upcoming AAA game, Hei$t.

As for the RPG, it's a good possibility that it will be a Wasteland RPG since they acquired the trademark. However, it likely won't be a remake or true sequel (as opposed to spiritual successor) since they got the same deal that they got on Bard's Tale - rights to use the name, not the places, characters, or plot.

Not all - Chris Taylor is still there.

Well most of them. I hope Fool is at least okay.
hopefully InXile comes up with some thing cool mabey a completely different game.

I am not sure if I like the idea of someone to say that he wants to do RPGs the "old school" way. I mean there is no issue with modern improvements and games doing new things.

The issue is that even if things are "old school" there is many times to much streamlining and simplifing. At least I want modern technology. But used in a good fashion, to improve gameplay, not to make things more easier.

I mean they said about Bethesda they would go the "old school" path as well with their dialogues granted it where journalists saying this, but still.

I just hope gameplay and mechanics will allow for a real role playing experience. And not just a game that calls it self a "deep RPG" like many action RPGs do today.

One second too slow, mister BH. Now your post doesn't fit into the all hole. :>

I must say I sacond our friend cdoublejj here. Its not the company but the people who are workinf there that matters.

I wish Interplay would just cease to be... this prolonged agony is no good at all and I really doubt they will manage to raise the money. They currently have a lawsuit with Glutton Creeper Games for breach of contract and other calamities...

Actually, regarding Glutton Creeper:

Jan. 2009,GCG and Interplay have reached an amicable resolution over our dispute.

They're still in dispute with Bethesda over the whole thing, tho', I think, dunno if it went before court.

Interplay still holds a bunch of great IP's that I really want to see sequels to. Plus, the fact that games can have that Interplay logo at start up makes me happy somehow.

On another note, the fact that more stability had something to do with Anderson leaving Interplay for a company like inXile, makes me think that Interplay is on it's way to it's final death afterall.

Or, Herve pulled one of his infamous, "I know better" stunts, and Anderson left because he knows Herve's ideas suck.

Don't worry. That IP will be sold to some conscientious developer, which will update the series sympathetically to meet the demands of a modern audience, whilst still remaining faithful to the originals.

I mean, that's what they do, right?... Right?

That's what I'm afraid of.

I could simply be lacking knowledge about it, but do such things actually happen? I've never seen it happen, afaik, feels more like a myth than reality. :(

I think he was ironic. Look at Bethesda and Fallout 3.

So far only very few "sequels" made by different companies do really had the quality to capture the essence of the past games.

Well I cant really name a lot just right away.

EJ was the coming soon picture that IP put on the web site a while back.

Nah, that was an amalgamate of images inc Earthworm Jim, Descent and a rusty car (prob Fallout)

They've licensed several titles to GOG and on Wii's Live system already. I think word was they were working on a new EJ, yeah
