So, man, the draft zoomed by and teams are made. Most of you will have to replace your defensive players, since the one Yahoo! drafts for you tend to suck ass. To determine what available D players are good, go
here. Plenty of good ones left.
The draft was random-order, I was pretty happy to pick 5th (I love picking middle), but there's always a #1. So, how did everyone do?
None Is The Pigskin - Brother None
Fantastic as usual. Nah just kidding.
What rocks: We're looking at 2 first-tier RBs (Marion Barber, MoJo) with two starting-potential back-ups (Ronnie Brown and Edgerrin James), good potential in Matt Forte. The receiving tandem of Boldin and Marshall is really good, and the TEs backing them up, Cooley and Davis, are ace. The defensive teams are both top-of-the-line (Jags and Colts) and the IDPs (individual defensive players) containts the likes of Patrick Willis, Karlos Dansby, Brian Urlacher, Shawn Merriman and Champ Bailey, 'nough said.
What sucks: the depth of the WR pool. I don't like Hines Ward as WR3 and have no one behind him (Clayton barely counts), and since Marshall is looking at a suspension this couldn't be coming at a worse time. Even worse, I'm really unhappy with my QBs, the oft-injured McNabb and the not-so-hot Jason Campbell. That is going to haunt me.
Elastical Gomez - TwinkieGorilla
Team Green Bay. Twinkie drafted for-last and managed to pick up half the Green Bay squad.
What rocks: Ryan Grant was a steal at pick #9 and Twinks should be happy he got him. His other RBs aren't earth-shattering, but the depth of the RB pool is great: Brandon Jacobs, Clinton Portis, Julius Jones. Great depth. His TEs are ok and Green Bay is a good defensive squad.
What sucks: WR depth. Greg Jennings and Donald Driver are an ok starting duo but have an unsteady QB by the wheel, and Twinkie lacks all depth behind them. Crayton and Tedd Ginn Jr have potential, as does James Jones, so with some luck this situation will resolve itself. What won't resolve itself is the QB situation. Twinks has a newbie QB in Aaron Rodgers backed up by someone coming from multiple injuries in Marc Bulger. Owtch.
Needs to flush out and completely replace the defensive player pool.
ThePunisher - Nexus6
Pick 10, owtch, always bad luck when you pick last. Still, Nexus6 did pretty well for his position.
What rocks: I say this team has Tom Brady, Frank Gore and Larry Fitzgerald and you start to fawn. Really well done on the first three picks. Having Dallas Clark as starting TE also helps. Santonio Holmes, Chris Chambers, Roy Williams , Nate Burleson and D.J. Hackett means plenty of depth in the WR squad. Jamal Lewis is a great RB2
What sucks: Brady is backed up by Kitna, but that should be ok unless Brady starts sitting out games near the end. RB lacks depth behind Jamal Lewis, though DeAngelo Williams should do ok. This team lacks a good defensive, Baltimore is old and Dallas isn't fantastic.
Needs to flush out and completely replace the defensive player pool.
The Simpletons - SimpleMinded
We come to pick #1. Surprise surprise, it's LDT. Pick 1 is a tough place to pick, so let's see how SimpleMinded did.
What rocks: LaDanian Tomlinson, Peyton Manning, Reggie Wayne. Pure A-quality RB, QB and WR, SM is gold there. With Burress as WR2 and Bowe and Cotchery backing them up the WR depth is great. Cutler is a good back-up QB, and with Minnesota SimpleMinded picked up what should be the best defense of this year. This is a pretty elite team.
What sucks: RB depth. The drop-off is pretty steep after Tomlinson, but on the other hand newbie McFadden has potential and Thomas Jones offers a steady hand, so it should be ok.
Terence Newman is gold, otherwise needs to flush out and completely replace the defensive player pool.
Imalumberjackandimok - [PCE]el_Prez
el_Prez picked 6th and his team is rocky, up and down
What rocks: having Derek Anderson as the starting QB backed up by Matt Schaub is very good. Brian Westbrook, Larry Johnson and fast Willie Parker makes for a good RB lineup. Antonio Gates is still an elite TE. Marques Colston is a fantastic WR1.
What sucks: WR depth, and I mean it really sucks. Roddy White has talent but no one throwing to him, and Kevin Curtis and Vincent Jackson are just mediocrities. Also, the Giants and Cardinals are not great defensive teams to own.
Needs to flush out and completely replace the defensive player pool.
DammitMilkers - DammitBoy
DB had a weird pick, starting out great, gaining momentum and then fizzling out.
What rocks: Randy Moss and Tony Romo. The best WR and one of the best 3 QBs teaming up should rake in the points. Wes Welker is massively undersold and should make a great WR2. New England is a great DEF. And unlike most of you, DB drafted an IDP team and did pretty well, landing elite players like Cromartie, McGee, Fletcher and Ryans. Bobby Engram is a good WR3.
What sucks: RBs. For some bizarre reason DB drafted a kicker in the 4th round, then 3 IDPs, then a defensive team in the 8th round. He should count his blessings that he picked up Rudi Johnson in the 9th and Fred Taylor in the 11th, those guys fell way deeper than they deserve and for such low picks he got fairly decent RBs. Both the RB and WR depths are pretty thin, tho'.
Sanders Levellers - Sander
The other Dutchie picked late (8th), but managed to cobble together a pretty decent team.
What rocks: Joseph Addai and Marshawn Lynch are elite RBs, and backed up by a pretty damned good team in Maroney, Young and Chester Taylor (who will prove his value when Adrian Peterson inevitably gets hurt). Carson Palmer is a great starting QB, and Houshmandzadeh should be aces this year. Jason Witten is a fantastic TE. Pittsburg and Tampa Bay are elite defensive teams.
What sucks: WR depth. Coles is a decent WR2/3. Evans is talented but unreliable. Otherwise he got nothing.
Ellis Hobs is decent, otherwise needs to flush out and completely replace the defensive player pool.
Roche Clippers - Cimmerian Nights
The #2 pick can be harder than the #1, and we end up with a great but very, very risk-filled team.
What rocks: Adrian Peterson might outplay LDT or might be out for the season on day 1, who knows? Roethlisberger should be great and Garrard is a great back-up. Chad Johnson and Terrel Owens make for a great WR pair but with the risk that either or both will whine themselves off the field, very risky. Still, with the likes of Andre Johnson and Marvin Harrison backing them up, I wouldn't worry - quite possibly this is the best 4-receiver set in this league. Jeremy Shockey is yet another risk, but a good player. San Diego is a great defense. Michael Turner is somewhat undersold and should be good for a lot of points on the QB-less Falcons team.
What sucks: the above-named risk factors. Also, the depth of RBs, basically there is no one backing up Peterson and Turner.
Jared Allen rocks, otherwise needs to flush out and completely replace the defensive player pool.
Teh Masterers - Maphusio
Holy shit, Seahawks fan much? Maphusio dropped all consideration of tactics and not only drafted a QB in the 1st round, but not even a grade-A QB, and a flipping defensive team in the 2nd round. This defiance of all known drafting logic must bring him luck.
What rocks: even though picked seriously too early, Matt Hasselbeck and the Seattle DEF are both solid on their positions. Still, the team inevitably pays for over-pricing this lot. Maphusio lucked out on still being able to pick up Steve Smith as WR1, but after that the team starts to go downhill. Benjamin Watson is a good TE.
What sucks: everything else. Santana Moss is a good WR3, but on this team he is WR2, and the very risky Javon Walker is WR3. Owtch. The RB team consists of pure mediocrity, the overhyped Reggie Bush, the solid Earnest Graham, the solid-but-who-knows Deuce McAllister and the talented back-up Kenny Watson. A decent team to have as backups to a good #1 and #2 RB, but this team does not have these RB1 and RB2 guys.
Needs to flush out and completely replace the defensive player pool.
Ronstoppable - rcorporon
The last one in drafted #3 and got a good team out of it, but without some of shininess you'd expect from #3.
What rocks: #3 pick Steve Jackson had an awful year last year (1250 yfs and 6 TDs is apparently awful), but should bounce back this year, hopefully to get his promised 2500 yfs. Willis McGahee is a solid RB2. Kellen Winslow is a great TE. Braylon Edwards is a great WR1 and Torry Holt should be good for a WR2, plus the depth behind them is pretty solid with Calvin Johnson and Joey Galloway. Drew Brees is a great QB. Chicago should be solid as a defense.
What sucks: depth in RB, Lendale White is reliable but that's it, basically making this a 2-RB team, which is risky. Vince Young is godawful.
Mike Vrabel is ok, but otherwise needs to flush out and completely replace the defensive player pool.
