Leaving The Vault

Drakortha

First time out of the vault
What do you guys think it might have been like for vaults a long time ago when they first opened to the outside world? In the mojave, it might have been over 100 years before the courier.

Would they have sent out scouts first, maybe even with a GECK? Also with the Mojave. What kind of factions and enemies do you think they would have run into back then?

In the Mojave they would have run into a lot of different Tribals in the beginning. It sounded like the Tribes tore apart Vegas in the early years. House didn't get things together until later, so I imagine it would have been pretty chaotic around Vegas. Raiders would be the biggest problem I think.

For Vault 19 it was mostly a crazed rampage full of drugs that ended in them finding Vault 3 Making their first contact with the outside world.

Yeah and Fiends murdered the hell out of the Vault Dwellers. They didn't fair too well I guess.

remember, the vault shown in-game is only a "symbolic representation" of the "real" thing.

for example, a vault would hold hundreds if not thousands of residents.
in fallout 1 you only see a couple of tens?
and in fallout 3, not even 15 individual residents, as far as i know.

"in reality", i imagine an opening of a vault would be a matter of grave importance, not simply open up and release a "lone wanderer" type scout, but release an entire "machine" of people - even just to scout.
they are intending on exiting the vault - for good - theres no opening for mistake. if the outside world is hostile, this is something they have surely prepared well for, with well armed security forces.
vault city is an example of how efficient such a population can be. building material has most likely been kept inside the vault, all ready to bring outside.

Vault 19 is the origin of the Fiends, or at least is implied to be.
Never heard of that in the game, no one ever says where they come from

A Vault full of psychotic patients, along with sane people deliberatedly driven insane with ready acces to drugs and weapons, then you find the tunnel underneath the Vault itself that conduces to the outside and there are no Skeletons or signs of all the residents being dead, and there is this gang of drugged up raiders with energy weapons ...

I always assumed they found the weapons in Vault 3, but I guess that makes sense too.

they die propably horribly from radiation cause Courier decides that food supply for entire city is more important than few vault dveller families.

This was same vault boomers came from... 34.

Earlier someone must used GECK to purify lake mead and other waters in the area since they are not irradiated..

They are not irradiated because very few nukes hit the Mojave due to Mr. House's defense system??

Also New Vegas takes a more realistic approach to radiation so it would have been washed away by the water cycle after a while.

You specifically hear in the game the the people in vault 3 left all their doors and such unlocked, and then motor-runner said they killed everyone and took the energy weapons and stuff.

What? Everyone knows what happens when those vaults, which so perfectly preserved the american people, open to the bright dawn of a new age. The overseer gives the instructions to wear goggles so as not to burn your eyes, and to walk out in an orderly fashion, paying heed to keep in line.

And in no small amount of time are the vault dwellers slaughtered by raiders.

This post is paid for, by vault-tec.

Fallout 1 and 2 illustrate best what happens when a vault opens in this area, I think. Through the premature exit by the first vault dweller, then going further with Vault City and to a degree, vault 15.
I think they're pretty well done explaining that as far as game play goes.
Though it might be nice to see another example of a 'successful' post vault settlement like Vault City, in the newer games. Since each one was a different experiment, they could get pretty interesting.

Also, like mentioned in another post. The vaults hold thousands of people. It would be nice to see that in some way shape or form. Or at least evidence of it.

I've said before, I'm sick of the vault dweller view POV for the characters. But Vaults are an integral part of the story.
Another thought, it might be nice to have to play for a while without a pip boy. Finding one could even be optional.
