...the idea with Dogmeat is that you can converse with him (he'll answer in barks, whimpers, and other appropriate canine noises), and he'll be knowledgeable about the surrounding area."

Nice :) let me guess - he's the new compass :P

Dogmeat seems gimmicky. I've already had enough of Peter Molyneux's ramblings about how fantastic the pooch in Fable 2 is going to be.

Will it be as fantastic as the pet in Black & White? Because I hear that was pretty darn fantastic.

With yesterday's technowledgy.

The only thing remotely fantastic about Black & White's imbecilic critters was their ability to consume their own feces.

fecal consumption seems to be right up Bethesda's alley..

we might even see dogmeat drinking out of toilets to show us which ones are safe, and eating his own crap in the wastes as a form of resource management.

I wonder if Beth'll make a special plugin with Dogmeat's Armor....or a Dogmeat-Mounted minigun.

"But while the general background is the same, none of the characters or locales from the original two games will make an appearance."

I thought there was one coming back? Someone said something about Harold, no? Is Dogmeat it?

Dogmeat is not Dogmeat from the original game.

I fully expect Harold and/or Marcus to make an appearance, kinda like the vault dweller did in BoS.

Even if it made no sense chronologically, a Harold cameo would be welcome for me.
That's assuming they wouldn't butcher the character with tepid dialog.

What?? I wasn't aware of that. Details...?

Yes, Harold was great to look at and his voice was one of my favorites. I'd love to hear him tell a story in F3, would be weird for him to be in DC though.

He's an unlockable character in BoS, not quite that remarkable, he's just more powerful than the other characters.

Actually more like a skin, I think he has the basics stats of one of the basic three characters.

"We also toured a mall of Washington D.C., where we saw the Washington Monument. In the future, it's full of holes, but still standing, and the elevator will still goes to the top." - Confirmation (?) that the Washington Monument from the official trailer is in fact a playable area.

Wait, I totally read over this, but...huh?! One of the most vulnerable buildings isn't only left standing, but the elevators still work? I mean, the whole "operating elevators" thing makes sense for bunkers and vaults, like in both Fallout 1 and 2, but an elevator going up the Washington Monument still working? That's ridiculous.

A miracle of aesthetic intervention!

If we were convergent with the pow-ahs of the "gametelling" sciences,
we might have a flicker of a clue about this pinnacle of artistic virtue,
thrusting forever sky ward, elevating the majesty of the father of all fathers.

Tower of Babel or the last standing, functional, phallic manifestation, poised to re-fertilize the wasteland!

Latent tendencies and Freud's cigar will have to wait in line.

Art, irony, habit, pissing post or happy accident, the monument stands for now.

The Todd-ler tolls: What is --- IS.

What befalls, falls.

the only way i could still see the elevator working would be is if DC was never hit with a nuke.

you know, because of that whole pesky EMP problem.

I always LOL'd at the phallicness of the Washington Monument.

But you're right, artistically it can be excused as a kind of ironic reminder of reality. That's pretty Fallout.

Technology in Fallout uses kathode tubes, unaffected by EMP. Hasn't this been discussed a gabillion times?
