Look at what I found

Just thought i would post a little info on the missiles available to the US in the 50's:

The First Atlas ICBM squadron was accepted by the 576th Strategic Missile Wing at Vandenberg AFB, on Sept. 1, 1959. The next three Atlas squadrons were scheduled to become operational at Warren and Offutt AFBs between March and November, 1960.

Thor - SAC activated the new The 392nd Strategic Missile Wing at Vandenberg on 15 Sept. 1957. By end of the year, three squadrons of Thor IRBMs were operational. SAC activated the 705th Strategic Missile Wing at Lakenheath RAF Station on February 20, 1958.

So these misslies were available by the end of the 50's and were in development by the late 40's to the early 50's.

No not speculation, explanation, the B-36 was made before the divergence, so the design is valid, also the bases were there too, just because they were not mentioned does not mean they do not exist. As they would have the high tech items on those bases. And the biggest form of trade would be between scavengers and the merchants who they trade with. The bases that exsisted but were not mentioned is not speculation. They would be there. :D

No I meant the slippery slope analogy in regards to speculation. I could speculate the Gunrunners are from one of the bases you described. Basil could stick to his speculation that we have space stations armed to the teeth with lasers and nuclear missiles (I mean there are plasma and laser weapons). I could speculate the brotherhood has installations all over the U.S. including Texas. I could speculate that there are plenty of working vehicles in Fallout, its just we only see one. Get my meaning?

Yes i do, but ignoring something that exists smacks of trying to ignore it just because you do not like it. The Point of Divergence is the 50's, so all things that existed at that time is not speculation, but explanation, and cannot be ignored. Or are you telling me that the world outside Southern California does not exist?

Of course outside california exists. But for the sole purpose of Fallout's atmosphere and game setting, we stick to the info it gives us. We play games and read books so they can take us to other places. They immerse us in a world that is somewhat similar to our world so we understand, yet the world itself is much different.

I mean how can you have post apocalyptic grittiness when the game starts to look more like Star Wars with everyone carrying energy weapons? How can ya have post apocalyptic grittiness when the game comes with ideas of space shuttles/ships and space travel? How can ya have post apocalyptic settings when towns have laser fencing, automated gun turrets, etc, etc. Hell even the Brotherhood didn't have laser fencing in Fallout 1.

This is why I disliked too much tech. Even though it is quite plausible that certain ideas can happen, it doesn't make them any better if they disrupt the setting, mood, or story. Granted I would have liked to see a brotherhood/gaurdian of the citadel type organisation in Mad Max, I don't think it would be very post nuclear if it talked about every average jibroni ransacking numerous military facilities all over the state with the greatest of ease.

Imagine how people would have felt if they went to see a post nuclear movie and instead got a movie that resembled Star Trek. Imagine what people would have thought if every dumbass nitwit gang of Mad Max was equipped with BDUs, Javelins, M203's, M18A2s, etc, etc.

Well Dark Corp if you can point out in my posts where i said i approved of all the tech please point it out to me, as i never recall saying i approved of all the tech in Fallout2. And since i was talking about the Gunrunners in Fallout, and your tirade went to Fallout2 i must conclude you are on a soapbox preaching to the masses, and unwilling to listen to or read anything that contradicts anything according to St. DarkCorp , it is a valid question where they got their high tech weaponry. Also nothing i have stated contradicts canon at all. So i do not think we are talking about the same thing.

Well then it seems my long winded post was out of place then. After further analysis, I realised you merely provided a plausible answer to my question.

I apologize. For some odd reason I mistook your explanation as defending the idea that the gun runners should have had the energy and gatling weapons that they did in F1.
