Mad Max: Fury Road

I was excited up until I saw Mel wasn't playing Max. Why don't they just get him to do it? It will not be the same without him playing Mad Max. So now I'm turned off...

That was the original plan up until 2003 when Fury Road was scrapped. In the last decade Mel hasn't aged well and with all his personal problems the big studios see him as a liability. Today in his own words he is no longer interested and personally gave Tom Hardy his blessing.

Although, in Mel's defense I thought Get the Gringo was really good.

Some high resolution shots of recent pics came out today. The only one of real interest is the new Interceptor variant:

I do know as a fact the original Road Warrior (black on black) variant is in the movie. Nobody knows for sure yet if this is an "upgraded" version of the same car later on or a whole different vehicle not driven by Max. The skull on-top of the giant blower hints at it being a gang vehicle. At least three identical versions of that particular Interceptor were made.

The designers must be taking the piss out of Mad Max 2, the cars are getting slightly ridiculous. At least in MM2 the cars seemed plausible, but now...I don't know.

Thought the same. Some of the cars are looking way too unbelievable.

/Edit: These seem to be drum-dudes. Front:

"Hey guys! There is almost no fuel left anywhere, lets get this 20 ton truck running, it gets a good half-mile to the gallon!"

Some of those do look kinda silly.

Man I will be seriously butt hurt if this movie sucks.

Might be good, might not be. Regardless, it sure as hell won't be better than the first two so I don't really plan on seeing it.

He kind of went crazy with those anti-Semitic remarks, that effectively killed his career. I don't really mind, still like the dude....not like he hurt anyone.

Some shots of the "new" Interceptor.

Looks like a hybrid of the Mad Max 1 and Mad Max 2 (Road Warrior) versions of the car. The front end is still mostly intact. There's only one extra fuel tank in the trunk instead of two. The pics are legit and were taken at an event this weekend where the cast and crew got to hang out with the locals.

Why is the car in the movie? Will it be... a remake after all?

According to recent cast interviews "Mad Max: Fury Road" is part 1 in a trilogy, acting as a remake/reboot of the franchise. Think of Chris Nolan's Batman vs. Tim Burton's. Plans for a direct sequel were scrapped in 2003. Anywhere that still says it's a sequel to Beyond Thunderdome is years out of date.

There have been leaked reports from the set claiming they "roll" the classic style Interceptor. Later it reappears modified to the bare metal version with the jacked up suspension and giant engine driven by one of the enemy clans.

parallel story might be a good option since Mel wont be included.
trying to replace Mel with another actor and continue the story would just leave a bad aftertaste.

i don't know if portraying him as a furry is really going to win over the new generation
to me it seems gimmicky and unecessary
