Mark Morgan working on the Prey 2 OST

wow people really get worked up about it.

I mean sometimes you do those things because you like them. I would not be surprised if Aphex Twin or Brian Eno played and loved Fallout.

Just as how I do sometimes "fan art" of marvel characters you know. Well just saying. As artist you get inspirations from everywhere. I don't see it really as bad if you use sometimes things from others. As long it is not a 100% copy paste.

As already said, it wasn't just "inspiration", especially the Boneyard Music is an almost 100% exact copy of AT's "Grass" and the Junktown Theme is a copy of Brian Enos "Alternative 3", note for note. It makes me sad that people try to downplay this into "oh it's just inspiration" when it clearly is not. People don't respect an artists work anymore it seems. BTW, I can't find a link, but Aphex Twin was very pissed because of that, it's not he "oh I am sure he loves to play Fallout and everything is in Rainbowcolors with Unicorns <3".

Though, doesn't mean that I can't enjoy Morgans other works. Only the tracks mentionend above leave a sour taste.

I just find it annoying that this stuff comes up everytime someone mentiones Mark Morgan. As if nobody knows about it yet.

I genuinely didn't know about it until today. And it's my birthday. So my birthday present is having the soundtrack to Fallout ruined for me.

:(

It seems like the topic's been done to death here, though, so I'm not going to get into it, other than to say that I am not incredibly surprised that a computer games composer lifted some parts of someone else's work, whether consciously or not.

Anyway, if Prey 2 gets ported to the PS3 I might check it out, or check out bits and bobs of the soudntrack on YouTube. I've never actually heard anything Mark Morgan has done other than the Fallouts and Planescape: Torment, and his stuff from years ago being reused in New Vegas has made me really dig the old soundtracks again (whereas when I play the original games I usually stick on some Bass Communion or something).

well even if you are right it is not our job to go down and burn those artists. If it is the work of someone "else" then they have to get the necessary steps to do something.

I am not talking about Eno or what ever here. I am talking in general.

One should not forget that music just like any other form of art works with inspirations. Sometimes you get something down, you have no clue from where it is and suddenly you realize that it sounds almost like the work from someone else but then it is already to late and it is more or less published. As said. Who knows from where the inspiration comes. I mean nature never came back to me for plagiarism because I use it in my art. But that is a whole different story. Sometimes things look/feel very similar. It is the same with art. When I am drawing a mecha or dragon I will sure have 10 people coming back to me "hey you know that looks like this/that/whatever!" but maybe coincidence was I never even saw the stuff they are comparing it with before I did the drawing. Plagiarism now ? I cant tell.

No one is "burning down" anything, we are pointing out where exactly work from others is copied. Or do you think we shouldn't talk about that, it's only up to the copied-from artists?

But here we aren't talking about "inspirations", but about plagiats. Do you still don't understand that there is a difference? If anything, atleast the Interplay Guys who send the CD to Morgan should have noted that Morgan copied 2 of the tracks they've sent him directly and should've credited the artists in the credits. As no one bothered to do that, it stinks even more. But I agree with Lexx and the others, I grew wary of this topic starting whenever his music comes up. Talking about beating a dead horse and all that.
