Fallout 2 mod Megamod version 2.46 Bug Reports and Suggestions - Closed

Uhhhh the temple at the start is nothing but blackness...
Same thing happened when I tried using Killap's RP, only then it happened at the Den.
How do I fix this? I've tried using both the 2.45.3 and 2.44 versions

I'm also running the GOG windows version through wine on a Mac, if that's of any help :P

Sounds like a problem with your proto files. Basically, when the game starts it will delete any proto files contained in "your installed game"\data\proto\"subfolders" unless they are write protected. By default they are, but for some reason wine doesn't recognize it. So you will have to reinstall your game and then make sure the .pro files are write protected (in whatever way you do that in wine), before you start playing.
I'm fairly sure there are mentions and\or instructions on this on the Restoration Project wiki page and various RP threads here on NMA.

I was installing Nirrans custom books and noticed that you have wcdobbs2.int listed in scripts.lst but not in scrname.msg. Is this going to cause a problem?

How did you get it installed on the newest version?
- I copied the mod into the F2 folder after processdat2.exe + bat-file was installed. -> not ok
- I copied in to the F2 folder the Mega mod and the book mod and started ProcessDat2.exe + bat-file -> not ok. :-(
 
I can't speak to Smitty anymore after talking a few times to him. It is not possible with owning the correct parts, too.

Smitty spoke with me the first time only if I had his meal from Mom, so I got the idea to
use F2se.exe so I can put Smitty's Meal in my Inventory and speak with him. It works, but paying him the money to repair the car get me only a black screen.

I got the Super Repair Kit from Smitty with barter. So I could go directly to Gecko.

If I try to repair the car, I get the message: It would be to noisy to pop the hoad and work on the car

Just got a BlackIsle Version from a friend, can speak with Smitty, but still get a black screen after buying the car. I wonder if it is the save game which is defect or if F2 do not like it that I didn't got the Super Repair Kit from Vic's sister Vault City.

Took an older save game, had already the part from gecko, talked to Vic's Daughter, not sister(!). :-) But same issue in Den. Black Screen if I give Smitty the 5000.

Same with an other Save Game, first time in Den, but after I gave Smitty the meal, put with F2se.exe the gecko and klamath part in the backpack, talked to smitty, we can check the parts, offer to repair it if I buy it for 5000, but I can't get the decision to give an ok to do it.

Only option would be to do a new game I see in the moment is to try it again.

Few suggestions:
- please make Bess walking faster, she walks like if she is overloaded, as fast as humans would be really nice. :-)
- it would be nice if it is possible to deactivate the picking up of items from NSC's
- I prefer to control the followers of the Chosen One, it is a really nice feature, but during a fight it is hard to see who is it I'm controlling. Would be nice to make it visible who is it. But I thing this option is still in the beta, is not even earlier phase or not? Controlling the NSC's makes the fights much easier in the moment.
- Also interesting it would be to get all NSC's at once waiting for the chosen one. Or no need to talk with them, only a 'wait/come with me' icon under the talk icon.
- It would be also interesting if it is possible to hide Lenny the Ghoul under a robe or a power armor, so no one knows he is a Ghoul. (Eventually it is working in Den with a Robe, I must test it in Vault City.)
- most XP-books are near worthless in F2, especially in the Megamod where it is more important to get high Science or Repair. Small Guns are at the beginning the most important weapons, so they are really fast not usefull anymore. This is one reason why I'm interested in Nirran's Custom Books Mod. To make them also later useful. In the end I use only First Aid books to learn and only a few Outdoor books at the beginning.

I will check into the problem with Smitty.

Speeding up Bess would involve cutting frames from her artwork. It could be done, but not by me. I don't get involved with artwork. But also, she's a brahmin, and I don't think she should walk as fast as a human.

To make NPCs stop picking up items and looting corpses, delete gl_test1_loot.int and gl_test2_loot.int from your data/scripts folder.

I like the idea of being able to camouflage Lenny in robes or power armor. I will look into this.

I do not know if it always works, but if I cannot speak with Smitty anymore, if I do save and load the savegame I can speak with him again.
(After few tests, yeah, saving and reloading make him speak again! Tried it already 5 times. )

Gave my character in the new game in the BlackIsle version with F2se.exe the Fuell Regulator and spoke with Smitty and I have a Car, now.

I would put a comment in the megamod readme telling not to use the GOG.com F2 version at all. As long nobody found a solution to this issue. I do not know if it is the high resolution mod which made the error or something else GOG.com sometimes do to make game fixes...
- can't get the car
- map edges are are not ok, cutted or to much visible, you can go to places you shouldn't or not reach the exit in some random encounter caves.
- game slows down sometimes (Klamath for example after I came out of the gully in the toilet, also later in Den or other places) Not so bad, because it goes away after few minutes if you have not also a defect HDD. :evil:
Don't have all this issues in the BlackIsle version.

Ok, now I have the Full Regulator from Gecko again, without cheating programm and get again black screen.
I deleted the item and gave him a new one with the F2se, but same issue.

Update:
I found the error. I used the car trunk to put my I items I do not want to carry. After removing them I could buy the car without black screen.

Smitty still speaks sometimes only with me if I save an reload the save game. But I'm mobile, now.

Yes, it was part of a Russian mod that I added... Dominion, I think. I always question that addition, though. One of these days I'll probably disable that quest.
 
Would be cool if it could be enabled in an ini if you remove it. I think I didn't played it, yet. I do not know which quest it is. I think I find it sooner or later.
 
I got to play some more the last week.

I had some questions and encountered a few buggy things.

1) Isn't there a way to learn how to skin mole rats and pig rats? Or does that option show up the higher my outdoor skill rises after learning Gecko Skinning? I've been to Gecko, Vault City, The Den, Klamath, and now Redding and noone teaches mole rat skinning yet.

2) Random encounters, especially those with plants of dark soul (plants and scorpions, plants and ants), tend to crash the game with no warning. The game just ends. Maybe it's related to the number of items laying on the ground? Those plants throw a lot of Spikes. But it's happened on "Robbers vs Highwaymen" and once on "Ambushed by Kaga". No crashes in the regular game maps. I think all the crashes were west of The Den.

3) Reloading the game from the last save I was on just gets a spinning world loading symbol and my mouse pointer is locked into it. The game never loads and I have to Ctl-Alt-Del and kill Fallout2.exe. I can get around this by exiting to the main menu then loading a game.

4) When talking with The Brain and following along the dialog path asking him all about the situation, when my character finally accepted his Ankh the dialog choices are:
- Error
- That's it. That's enough. This stops right here. Someone's got to stomp you out of existence -- and that someone's me.
Not sure what the Error dialog is supposed to be but it doesn't effect getting the Ankh and doing the mission. Maybe that's another low IN dialog that is missing?

5) My Speech is 80% but INT of 4 and Ian won't give into the dialog of recognizing him.
EDIT: Looks like after 4 Smoking Weeds and IN of 8 he gives that dialog. It's a nice Easter Egg and the by the time I reached Vault City the dead Highwayman had already dropped 4 Combat Armors, so his leather armor gift isn't that great. Guess if I use 4 Smoking Weeds before taking the Citizenship Test I could talk to Ian later.
EDIT2: Naw, that won't work. The Smoking Weed wears off during the test and you fail it anyway.

6) I waited 10 real minutes and Pip Boy waited for a couple hours and left the map a few times then came right back but Steve never gets the guards to move away from the pen so I can get the dying guy's brother out. Saving the dying guy with RadAway first doesn't change anything. I traveled one square away and back and the guards are still there but Steve has "gone to bed".

7) I had Jonny's BB gun with me but the only dialog option available is:
- Would you like some candy, little kid?
- Goodbye.
EDIT: Oh, again it was low IN. 80% Speech isn't enough, needed 6 IN (2 smoking weeds) and to speak to Balthos first about his sadness.

8) Can't figure out the dialog to call in the Enclave Vertibird from Gecko reactor computer.
EDIT: That must also be a low IN or low Science score. Not sure what science level or IN the character needs.

I'm not enjoying the IN 4 character because missing out on interesting dialogs, the new crafting and scavanging system relies heavily on Repair and Science which needs more IN for skill points. I took a 9 AG because I wanted Silent Death and wanted to not take Gifted for the challenge of a harder start. I might better start over with 6 IN and 8 AG and skip Silent Death (now that I reread Silent Death in the Wiki, it only doubles normal damage and not critical hits so Slayer is much better and doesn't require the 10 AG anyway). The 1 less AP is going to be tricky too and a challenge in combat but now that I noticed Silent Death isn't that useful I'll start a new character.


What is the minimum starting IN that gets you a chance at all the interesting dialogs?

Does this mod get you a +1 AG by sleeping with Miss Kitty and a working girl in sequence?

Thanks for the bug reports. I don't have answers for all of those, but...
1. You must become a hunter in the tribe.
2. Could you try something for me during those encounters? I want you to hover the mouse over the critters. There was a bug a while back that caused the game to crash because the radscorpion proto file somehow got corrupted. I wonder if that is happening again?
4. and 6. I will look into those scripts and see what is going on. So, you talked to Steve about geting the guards away. Did Steve even leave to go talk to the guards?

Interesting dialog level? Sorry, I can't really answer that. For many I think it is 6. But there are some that require an 8. There might even be some that require a 9 or 10. I just don't remember.

There is a temporary bonus after sleeping with someone from the Cat's Paw (I think). If not, then there will be such a bonus in the next release, as I know that code was a part of Endocore's RP enhancements that I am currently adding to the MM.
 
ok, so i installed the MOD, works fine... had problems with msvcr71.dll missing...solved, had some problems saving...solved that too... but now, opening the game... it's in small resolution.. and i don't know how to increase it... maybe the answer is in the 20 pages of answers and replies :) if someone can help.. please! :)

I spent some time searching for a solution... and i did as they were saying to do ... it didn't worked... if someone could give me direct indications... i can't get the high resolution pack to work with the megamod... and if i follow the steps in changing in ddraw.ini the ExtraCRC=0xe348e17f to ExtraCRC=0xed141a65... then opening the high res patch... opening the game is worse than before with some mouse lag, and with the original theme screen...

I started a new game with a character that has 7 IN. I've been overwriting many of the last character's save games but will keep some in case we need to check back.

Steve walks over to the guards, all three do idle animations, if you click-speak on Steve he gives the above-the-head response that he's reviewing his pamphlet-script (I guess like if you insult him enough) and the guards say standard stuff like "Move on". I just watched some TV shows while the game sat for over 10 minutes to see if it was ever going to work.

It seems to be 8 IN is decent. When speaking with Bob in Klamath at 7 IN you get the "snake coil" dialogs when you have the still components. After smoking Devil Weed for 8 IN the character calls it a "cooling coil" and you get the option to say you'd open up your own business and under work he says collect the bottles and you can say something like: 'I'd rather keep them for an experiment" instead of "use them for target practice or bar fight"
I sold about 7 empties to him and now wondering if Wooz' recipe for Molotov is going to need those empties so regretting that.

The Fallout Wiki at Wikia mentions the Restoration Project permanent AG increase from sleeping with Miss Kitty and then right away again with one of her girls. That's probably what you are going to add.

This new game has got the spinning world lockup error back on immediate reload. It was fine till I got into the rat caves.

The script where Robin comes in to steal from Sam's farm doesn't always fire when you wait till midnight.

I think it fires mostly when I stand about where Sam stands, turn my back on where Robin comes in and walk away a bit.
Is it intentional that he won't show if you are not sneaking and are facing him or too close to where he comes in?

As for Robin, a good karma character would like to get him to the orphanage in The Den or somehow not leave him alone on the streets of Klamath. Maybe have Aiden and Smiley take him in or Torr, (since Torr isn't really stupid, just English is a second language for him).

Do the scripts/dialog have some option to get him off the street? Which option would be easiest to implement? The scripts that have the one Klamath kid following you around asking stupid questions could be hijacked with different dialog and Robiin starting to speak again following the player around saying "Thanks for kickin that doods ass!"

With 35 Speech, 7 CH and 8 IN my character couldn't figure out some way to buy Robin or settle that quest without killing the asshole that beats Robin.

I would try to dig in and code this but my coding skills are decades out of practice.

You don't need to take any screen shots during those random encounters. The last time the proto files got corrupted, just hovering the pointer over the critter caused the game to crash. I just wanted to see if that is when the crashes were occurring with you and, if so, on which critters.

Steve is supposed to walk over to the guards, ask them to come with him over to the right side of the map about 30 spaces away to give you time to get into the holding pen, then all three go over there for a few minutes. Alright, I'll recheck the scripts.

No, empty bottles are not required for the Molotov Cocktail recipe.

So, the permanent agility increase was the result of a bug/exploit? Maybe that is fixed with the code I am incorporating now.

Don't know what could be going on with the rat caves. I haven't edited that area in a long time...

Regarding Robin, it depends on where you are standing. I usually have my characters wait a little north of that area. But, you have to be somewhat around the area of the crops. You do not have to sneak. But, if you are too close to where he will go, I think then the script will not activate. It also does not matter which way you are facing.

I will consider Robin's fate. However, usually this is before you have completed the orphanage quest. And it is a ways to travel (to the Den) for just a little kid on his own. Maybe the character could escort him to the Den. Maybe someone from Klamath could take him in. Maybe Robin just dies trying to survive on his own? All possible. He's not guaranteed a happy future. Sure, you solved the theft problem by killing his guardian and potentially saving your village. And your actions, as a consequence, lead to some other kid dying. Maybe that should be the price of your actions? I'll consider this, though.

The Sam quest will end only one way.

Just going by what was entered into the Wiki which didn't mention it as an exploit, just a permanent increase from the Restoration Project.

I just had an inspiration.
Robin has already shown aptitude at harvesting vegetables (among other things) and there is a script already written that has Robin in the corn fields. Sam seems to be a positive Karma individual and given that Robin is now homeless, and farmers need crop pickers, Sam would take him and the player would see Robin in the corn field using the corn theft script on loop.
 
So about that +1 Ag and Miss Kitty, you only get that after you have beat the game as you can't sleep with her before that. It's not very useful except as an alternative if you don't want to use the hint book. Also you have to ask her for that date (successfully) before you beat the game.
The wiki is wrong in saying ypu need to have sex with Kitty and then one of her girls. You should only have be with Kitty, unless something went wrong with the code.

I didn't actually, while going through the scripts it became apparent that I didn't have enough skill to correct the scripts that needed updating.
