Megan is missing, Or why I will not sleep tonight.

So, watched Megan Is Missing. That's it? That's what all the fuss is about?

Eh. I mean, obviously what they're trying to depict is pretty horrifying, but the film is way too stupid to take seriously.

Presumably about the Junko Furuta case

What a sicking event - the leniency of the sentences is breathtaking. Kidnapped - Raped (over 400 times) - Tortured - and finally Murdered = 4 to 20 years in prison.

Just reading about that on Wikipedia made me feel uncomfortable. In some cases (like this one) I'd rather see the criminals sentenced to death instead of a couple of years in prison. Stuff like that makes me mad.

Reading that made me feel physically ill. Stuff like that makes me wish atheist are wrong and there is indeed a hell in which those sick fucks get to burn for all eternity. Also fuck exploitation movies and mangas.

To the OP

Well for some people the concept of not existing anymore is far more scary than going into a cave full of fire.

^^ check out "Insidious".

Was that a joke? Please tell me it was. That movie wasn't scary at all

Clearly you're unscareable in traditional sense. May I then point you in the direction of "Bridesmaids". If that film doesn't make you tremble in fear, perhaps in fear for all of the humanity, then nothing will.

It was the acting that did it for me. The way the nerdy girl delivered her lines at the end really clinched it for me.

it's a love hate movie though, like the blair witch project

Insidious was essentially Paranormal Activity without the home movie aspect (on a side note I heard Bridesmaids was hilarious, but from my girlfriend mind you).

I suggest you watch Eraserhead, if insidious scared you that might just screw your head up.

Some of those movies sound basically like soft-core snuff/torture/rape flicks. With kids too. Splendid.

What is this, the Jeffrey Dahmer Movie Club?
Yep. Torture porn is the new "horror."

I love bridesmaids! it was so funny. And eraserhead is so weird it's hard to be scared of it. good movie anyways

Another hilarious (well it's hilarious in specific parts, the rest is a snoozefest) Horror movie is Paranormal Activity, I was almost falling asleep with that movie, but then the demons/spirit/mcguffin dragged the girl by her feet through the door I just laughed my ass off.

I watched The Shining again on IFC last night. Love that movie.

If you haven't seen it before, do yourself a favor and watch it alone at night in the dark (and ideally during winter). Anything else is a disservice to a Kubrick classic. And make sure you watch a version without commercials. Commercial breaks really screw it up, even more than with most movies.

I suppose everyone's seen it though.

The shining and Halloween are my two favorite horror movies. The shining because of the location and Jack Nicholson and Halloween because I used to babysit when I was younger and was always afraid of some maniac showing up like in the movie.

Shelley Duvall doesn't get enough credit for The Shining. She's the perfect victim: a weak and submissive target for her overbearing husband (but with just enough pluck to come through in the end). One of the creepiest things about that movie is how contemptuous Jack Torrance is towards her and Danny right from the start, and how she ignores it and makes excuses for it.

I thought she was as fantastic as Jack himself. An axcellent movie. The sledgehammer to her pelvis was the only disappoint. No one would survive that. Ever.

Indeed. But it is a movie so I guess we can let that slide.

The other Shining adaptation (the TV miniseries) was terrible. But that usually happens when they re do a movie.

I seem to remember hearing that King never liked the Kubrick version, so he had a hand in making that other version. What a fusspot.

When are book writers going to learn that being a good book writer does not make you a good movie maker? :?
