Metal Gear Solid V: The Visible Boob

How come nobody complains about sexist male designs that objectify men as sex objects? that happens a hell of a lot in the modern media but seems to get ignored.

Proof? The most common stereotype is not man as a sexual object, but man as a masculine hero. The objectification of men is nowhere near as bad as the objectification of women.

I guess many games do try to go with the "sexy" stereotype of the male figure.

doesn't happen often that you see those kind of images as "hero" in game.

thag thing behind him, is that supposed to be the Dragon?[/spoiler:9aa10e6524]

- would be really an awesome idea for a game though, where pretty much everything around the hero and the damsel in distress is reversed compared to the "normal" game.

The Stigma of sexism is sure a lot bigger for females in games, but saying it doesn't play a role for males is also wrong. Being the hero of some sorts is a try to be "sexy".

Yeah seriously, who wants to be a hero and not get laid afterwards?

The series' cerebral shit has mostly-always gone over my head. I'll keep coming back for the world reactivity and excellent action choreography.

I am not crying about objectification, because in the end is just some shlocky game. I am just making of fun of Kojima's ego in his "justification" for having a character in a military game dressed in nothing but pantyhose, a bikini top and a thong. Kojima should just be honest, he just wants to sell more copies among teenagers.

There is no cerebral shit. Metal Gear Solid games aren't subtle. They're hamfisted and crude, with little idea of what they're tackling, kind of like Otto West from A Fish Called Wanda. It's been that way since the first game.

GENES.

So many things based on Kojima not doing his goddamn research. No, cloning Big Boss doesn't create a Big Boss copy. You need them to express and unless you mirror the original's environment, down to the toxicology, they'll express differently. But, of course, that's ignored because GENES. And that's not even taking into account the absolute bullshit that are Liquid's rants about YOU ARE BETTER CLONE WITH DOMINANT GENES, I AM WORSE CLONE WITH ALL RECESSIVE ONES. I'm not a biologist and even I see the bullshit here.

I like Metal Gear Solid as the ultimate expression of camp and derp. The series raise interesting questions sometimes, but they're drowned out by a sea of primitive drivel that's about as insightful as a 15 year old's school essay.

That said, I'm looking forward to MGSV and seeing what crazy Japanese guy comes up with this time.

I just hope that the game this time won't consist of 80% only cutscenes. MGS4 was so full of cutscenes and codec calls that I wasn't sure I played a game.

As is right now, I think MGS3 is the best of em all, followed by Peace Walker.

MGS4 was good gameplay-wise. The cutscenes were horrid, I agree. I played it and I noted how long they lasted. The one with GILF Eva? That was a solid 30-40 minutes of exposition. The ending? Hell, I think that was an hour or even more.

I need to get me a PSP or Vita for Peace Walker. Heard so much good about it I have to see it with my own two eyes.

I played the HD thing on my PS3, as it was in that MGS HD Collection. If you have a PS3 and not all MGS games yet (and want to have them), you should grab the Legacy Collection.

I am not exactly sure what the difference to the HD Collection is, though.

I don't have a PS3. I don't even have a TV, as I have no need for TV programming. Especially in Germany.

To a 15 year old pot smoker MGS2 was cerebral.

Actually I started Peace Walker last night after seeing people's reaction to it on this thread. I haz HD collection as well but never got around to it yet. So far it's interesting but there seems to be moves missing. Can't drag bodies and a few moves are gone entirely. Chain CQC is neat but a little cheap. Oh well I'll still have fun with it.

Is this legit? I had heard about how bad MGS's plots could get, but I didn't imagine trainwrecks of that scale. Then again, this is the series with utterly ridiculous privatisations of war, androgynous guys running around with katanas, and a gun with unlimited ammunition that fires in a completely silly way that would make the bullets useless past 10 meters. I shouldn't be surprised at this point.

At any rate, thanks for confirming my feelings towards the series. No buy fo sho.

Most of it is. I find MGS4 to be the lowest point in the series, and even worse is that it skewered everything that came before it. Practically changed how I felt about the series, and now I have nothing more than a passing interest. Still fun games to play, though. I still think the earlier games are worth playing, along with Rising if you're into that kind of thing.

Obviously her boobs are possessed by the ghost of Big Boss, who fathered her in a secret tryst with Ocelot. What, you didn't know he was a woman all along?

I've always have had my suspicions about that mustache.

That or he's just getting lazy and no one is willing to tell him to cut that shit out.

Either way, it's reminding me of how Frank Miller went crazy.

I'd go with lazy. PW only has nonhuman bosses after all. Not that it mattered much since co-op was generally fun anyway.

You mean outside of having those digital graphic novels, MGS1, VR Missions, and MGS4? Nothing really. It's a shame that they didn't remaster the AC!D games as I think they're better than the main games. Maybe not Ac!d 1 due to some of the flaws it has. Although, nothing that a little tinkering couldn't fix to make the game more tolerable in the later missions.

Yeah, you can't crawl either. It was designed for a portable device so the game is mission based thus some aspects weren't that necessary to keep. It's fun, but different. Of course, it's one of those things that I find to be more fun with other people. Which reminds me that I lost all my progress, and I'll have to start up PW again sometime soon.

Hm, true. I forgot that I was buying MGS4 after I got the HD collection and then the legacy collection was kind of useless, as it didn't offered anything to me that I haven't experienced already before (MGS1 and MGS2 on the PC, The Twin Snakes on the GameCube, etc.).

I kind of only bought the HD collection because of MGS3... And Peace Walker then was a bonus.

Also I must say that I totally hate the MGS2 controls on the console. Especially after playing MGS4, I just can't get used to "the old way" anymore. MGS3 is kind of borderline, still I wish it would feel more like MGS4 when walking around / using the weapons. I like that Peace Walker has a mode to get a more MGS4-esque controller feel.

For a group supposedly based around the idea of gender equality, their opinions do seem rather one sided.

Some good musings on the issue: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/jimquisition/7290-Objectification-And-Men Basically, it's objectification vs idealization.

Though I do also agree that feminists as a group have long moved beyond the point of equality in the things they promote. Doesn't mean equality is a bad idea though.

On a lighter note though: http://www.explosm.net/db/files/Comics/Kris/strong.png

I just remembered one thing I really totally hated in MGS4.

The cutscene with Mei Ling in the briefing room. So they made a battleship captain out of her, which I find pretty cool. Apparently she is a strong woman, she climbed up the military ladder pretty good and all that stuff.

And then you get to see this.

Seriously? Apparently they just had to push her back to the cute, scatty, weak woman. Ehw.

I can somewhat understand Kojima's reasoning for the slow-motion, and the tagging, but I'm hoping their 'helpfulness' is diminished despite whatever difficulty may be added due to the game's open-world design. Although, it looks like you're prompted to start the slow-motion if you want to so maybe it isn't forced on you. The tagging on the other hand, I'd be more okay with it if you couldn't see the enemies through walls, and such. I don't know if it is optional, but I hope it is. It would also help if the AI was smarter cause that dude just walks past Snake, and doesn't even see him before getting interrogated. That was pretty terrible to witness, and hopefully they're just playing on an easy difficulty, or something. He does have god mode on after all.

Otherwise I'm liking what I'm seeing.

Here's the X1 demo version, and it's mostly the same, but the daytime demo plays out a little bit differently, and the person playing doesn't suck as much.

Well, my criticism wasn't that it was unrealistic coz all MGS games have generally been like that. But my wish is that the 'cone of vision' should extend to being able to see around corners to some extent. It's not like he was at that far of a distance, Snake was practically right next to him.

But this is something that MGS has always suffered from so I don't consider it that big of a deal. They seem better during the gunfights so it slightly balances out. Although, my biggest wish would be that the reporting to HQ mechanic from MGS2 were to make a comeback. While the frequency might've been a bit much in that game, I thought it was a neat addition.
