MIB88 MegaMod - opinions, technical issues, etc.

There doesn't seem to be any one thing that causes the crash, although I have noticed that I can't save in Den or in the Scrapheap areas or it corrupts my save game. I have to run to the wilderness and save there. One weird thing - if I alt-tab out of the game every few minutes, it doesn't crash, but then any saves I attempt after that will be fubared...I dunno...maybe I'll just put it on a VM on my server and play it from there instead of my laptop.
 
Ugh. You didn't say that before: about having gone to Scraptown. That area was not ready for release, and visiting it is known to screw up games (as is mentioned already in this thread). Also, visiting that location would not be possible if you had the 2.1 update applied, because that location is properly hidden. It would still show up if you started a game and then applied the 2.1 update, but you shouldn't do that with the Megamod anyway.
 
Scraptown should probably be a rare random enconter like the café of broken dreams (both are references to previous game/demo if i remember right).
 
Gah...fair enough. I figured I would have to reinstall everything. I probably borked up the install somewhere when I patched over to 2.1. Back to the drawing board.

It was misbehaving prior to my going to Scraptown, but if ST isn't supposed to show up, then something is wrong anyway. Thanks.

Also, the Megamod 2 download now incorporates this update.


Does this mean I only have to use the megamod 2 files ONLY? because the game runs very smoothly when I just have those files but if I also incorporate the 2.1 update I get the temple blackout and error saving games stuff.

Can someone pm me how to get the vault 14 coordinates off the Military Base's 2nd floor comp (according to a previous poster) the computers are broke when I'm there :)

*Edit* I uninstalled the game and restarted, and did all the file copying step by step painstakingly moving files by individual folders. AND IT WORKS!!!

good times...

Vertibird Flying is okay, now I just gotta find the fuel source :)
 
Hello everybody,

I recently installed the Megamod and its updates and finally got it to work. But now i have a serious problem/issue.

When i am in the temple of trials i can't pick up the spike or take stuff from the corpse. Sometimes it works but most of the time nothing happens when i use the hand symbol on it.

Now I can't get beyound the first door because of this problem. Anyone had this problem too and knows what to do about it?
 
In Klamath, when you trade bunches of gecko pelts for money to ol' what's-his-name who has the key to the northern part, you get 10 XP. Why?

Also, the Barrett. I'll admit, I have carried around the whole game and found no use for it. I always end my games with tons of useless items in my inventory.

BUT the question is: why in its description does it specify Min St: 2, when it is not weildable as a weapon?

Okay, now I'll go back to my new game with a thuggish charcter. This is the game where I try weird things. (Like failing the Temple of Trials riddle quiz. That was fun!)

I never noticed the XP thing...just something that TeamX included. I will try to change that, but I can't promise anything. There is a difference in the way some of the scripts TeamX compiled, and sometimes I am not able to get them recompiled properly after I take them apart.

As for the Barrett, I will modify its description.
 
Thanks for your hard work MIB. I didn't play Fallout series since years and your mod is a great addition for a replay. Looking forward for your next release. One thing though :

Jack, at the cold hearts farm in Modoc, gives you a quest to scout Liz basement in Broken Hills, where she stocks weapons. After having done the following to enter the basement :
- Sneaking past Liz during the night
or
- Getting the permission by talking to her
Jack still doesn't recognize the quest as successful. The only way for him to do so is to wipe the mutants doing the evil quest with the narrowminded humans, as the reward is free passage in the basement.
Is resolving this quest only with evil means WAD or do I miss something ? Thats seems weird as Jack doesn't indicate which means precisely you must use. Sneaky ones would even be the most plausible as the cold hearts is a thief/assassin guild.

There are a few ways to get into the basement...check Per's guide. The mod will check only that the player has stepped on a certain location inside the basement, regardless of the means used to enter. That is completely up to you and won't affect whether the Cold Hearts view the mission as a success or failure.
 
Goodday to all, i began playing this great mod yesterday and have one question: was bolt, first weapon in temple, fixed? It has two attack modes and one of them seems broken - it requires 1ap. I tried to download complete repacked mod archive from FMC, but still have this problem. Other features and changes works good, so i think that mod installed correctly.

I have fixed this and it will be in the next release.
 
Im having a problem with the MIB88 add on..Ive followed Guyver8's installation instructions which seemed to sort quite a few people out but still to no avail!

My main problem is the game runs fine..but I cant save and as soon as I step into the temple of trials all I can see is black and my character leaves the movement cursor and trails of itself everywhere when moving. Not good!

I know I saw something about this somewhere but cant find it for the life of me anymore even using the search function.

Anyone had a simular problem and a way of fixing it? Im using the UK version if its any help! cheers!
 
You're going to get flamed to pieces!

This has been mentionned several times before. You've prolly missed a step somewhere.
Did you use the largest installation?
Did you put the folder that you had to, to read only?
Did you copy the .exe file from the data to the main folder?

As for using the UK version, its fine as long as you get the children patch (look around in the files on these boards).
 
I wasn't going to flame him...I was just going to politely ignore him. :P

I mean, maybe the site's search feature is broken. And maybe, too, somehow the readme files in his download were corrupted, preventing him from checking those. :roll:

Nope Ive checked through the pages and have done all the things mentioned above. You can flame me if you want I was only asking because I couldnt find answers anywhere else. Just wondered if the problem I was having was related to something directly. But I guess not.
I checked the readme files and it didnt mention anything about the crash I described haha but oh well.
Basically Ill just assume it just won't work for me!
 
I really have a hard time believing that..

I would say: Remove F2 completely and look what for version you have (US/UK) and follow the steps described in this tread or the newest readme file.

You might what to tell us how you install it. When you give us the impresion you truly have infested time in trying to get it to work, (by using this tread) you might find us more helpful :)

So, your 'crash' wasn't mentioned, eh? It is in this thread several times, and I just got tired of answering the same thing.

From my 2.1 readme file:

"Here are a few things to keep in mind:

1. Install version of Fallout 2 that takes up the largest amount of space (Humongous).
2. Make sure you do not have a patch000.dat file in your main Fallout 2 directory. Either delete or rename it.
3. Make sure the entire proto folder is set to read-only
4. Make sure the individual items and critters inside the proto folder are set to read-only
5. Install the game and mod to a new location. Do not use the location you usually use. Pick a new folder entirely or, better yet, a different partition of your hard drive.
6. If you are going to uninstall a Fallout 2 game, you should also restart your computer after doing so, before reinstalling the game again and adding the Megamod.
7. If you have installed the game many times on your computer and removed them, it might be a good idea to also run a registry cleaner.

If you see something like a map that doesn't load up, i.e. a black screen in the Temple of Trials and just a bunch of 'ghosts' where the character and red hex move, I don't want to hear about it. It is not working. Uninstall that game, delete everything, and start over, following the tips above. If it still doesn't work, well then, I guess the Fates have decided that you just weren't meant to play this mod."

Final tip: Read in this thread what Dude101 said about unmarking/marking files as read-only.
 
So the next release will have abbey quests, fixed scripts and bugs and more translateable mods?

BTW since you bring up a lootable horrigan's body can you make it so that the end boss plasma gun and knife have actual pictures in the inventory rather than just worded captions.

Also about the armor ---> I killed Kaga in our final encounter and he had a advanced power armor mark II, but it wasn't present on his looted body. Same thing for the quarter master in Navarro.
Getting the mark II off Kaga will make it worthwhile for the player who lets him get stronger:)

Another thing about the armor, I got horrigan's armor but it doesn't show up when your NPCs wear it - think about how cool it is to have a hulking person following in your party; fix this too maybe?
