Military Service-

So who'd you kill or who are you running from?

No, things have changed. You have to change your name and your nationality because the main idea is that everybody is equal. A lot of guys come to the FFL to change of life because they have a long record (not necessarily a murder)... so they want to start from scratch, and changing one's name is part of the process. But there are guys like me who just want to join, and have a clean record (but still because of this idea of equality, we, the clean guys have to change our name).

ACTION, ACTION, ACTION!

I'll do my best to join the paratroopers. Tough, but not impossible.

Currently, it's a very bad time to enlist in the United States military, mostly because they are using troops as workers instead of soldiers. They're enforcing a series of policies that are working in the interests of military producers, and oil barons.

So right now, if you join the military, you're not fighting for America, you're fighting for some suit in an office someplace.

Quite sad. I've never seen a military of any country disrespected in such a manner.

the FFL also no longer takes people with huge wrapsheets btw. they used to, but now they've got too many applicants, so they turn down the scum whenever they can.

Actually, I don't know if I can choose. I'll probably take John Rico :mrgreen: .
doesn't it have to be a french name? i though that was because the instructors then don't have to bother fucking around learning to pronounce foreign names.

anyhow, there would be something very funny in being called "Pvt. (read "private") Parts" during bootcamp. :P

As regards the name they can give you, I don't know if you've something to say about it. After one year they'll give me back my original name, that's all I know... let's hope that during this year I won't have to bear a stupid name.

What's the French version of Gomer Pyle?

Well, I'm not aware of an equivalent character. But here in France we have the movie trilogy of the "7ème compagnie"... a stuff for dummies I gotta say... it's the kind of shit that is broadcasted during holidays. Repeated too often. To sum up, it deals with a bunch of morons during WW2. Yeah, that's it, I've sum it up; frankly, there's nothing to add.

See for yourself =>

P.S : Once again, before you ask me... no, I don't wear a frackin' beret.

I turned 17 05 December 1979, graduated high school January 1980. 22 February 1980 I volunteered for the USMC. I wanted to kill some Iranian motherfuckers who had stormed our embassy in 79.

In fact I was in the middle of boot when the aborted hostage rescue took place. As for that FUBARed mission, thats what happens when you let weenie USAF pilots try and fly Marine helos. :wink: I do believe myself and the senior DI were the only two that were smiling that day. He came out of his duty hut and said, "boys, we're going to war." As I said only myself and and the Senior DI were smiling. I can tell you one thing there were a lot of scared kids that day. :D

When we finally reached second stage of boot - rifle range - I damn near broke the recruit record for that range. After boot I was stationed with 2nd Amphib Bn, on Lejeune.

After spending one year with the 2nd tracks I was transferred to 3rd bn/12th Marines where I spent the next year. I spent my final year with HQHQRON at Cherry Point. I was proud to uphold my oath to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States, and by that it does NOT mean the government of the US. A small but subtle difference most folks ignore or do not realize.

I just have one question for all the folks who say fuck the military its not needed and they are fools: Do you honestly think the world would just leave us alone if we disbanded our armed forces?

Do the Europeans think the Soviet Union would have even considered not conquering your nations if not for The US willingness to defend you?

The United States has done far more good in this world then a lot of folks give us credit for.

And to all the folks who think President Bush 'lied' to us about Iraq, take a look at these quotes form your 'saviors', the Democratic Party. I hope you all can recognize the hypocrisy the Dems are using. Just like any political party they will bend the truth to suit them.

"One way or the other, we are determined to deny Iraq the capacity to develop weapons of mass destruction and the missiles to deliver them. That is our bottom line." --President Bill Clinton, Feb. 4, 1998

"If Saddam rejects peace and we have to use force, our purpose is clear. We want to seriously diminish the threat posed by Iraq's weapons of mass destruction program." --President Bill Clinton, Feb. 17, 1998

"Iraq is a long way from [here], but what happens there matters a great deal here. For the risks that the leaders of a rogue state will use nuclear, chemical or biological weapons against us or our allies is the greatest security threat we face." --Madeline Albright, Feb 18, 1998

"He will use those weapons of mass destruction again, as he has ten times since 1983." --Sandy Berger, Clinton National Security Adviser, Feb, 18, 1998

"[W]e urge you, after consulting with Congress, and consistent with the U.S. Constitution and laws, to take necessary actions (including, if appropriate, air and missile strikes on suspect Iraqi sites) to respond effectively to the threat posed by Iraq's refusal to end its weapons of mass destruction programs." Letter to President Clinton, signed by: -- Democratic Senators Carl Levin, Tom Daschle, John Kerry, and others, Oct. 9, 1998

"Saddam Hussein has been engaged in the development of weapons of mass destruction technology which is a threat to countries in the region and he has made a mockery of the weapons inspection process." -Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D, CA), Dec. 16, 1998

"Hussein has ... chosen to spend his money on building weapons of mass destruction and palaces for his cronies." -- Madeline Albright, Clinton Secretary of State, Nov. 10, 1999

"There is no doubt that ... Saddam Hussein has reinvigorated his weapons programs. Reports indicate that biological, chemical and nuclear programs continue apace and may be back to pre-Gulf War status. In addition, Saddam continues to redefine delivery systems and is doubtless using the cover of a licit missile program to develop longer-range missiles that will threaten the United States and our allies." Letter to President Bush, Signed by: -- Sen. Bob Graham (D, FL), and others, Dec 5, 2001

"We begin with the common belief that Saddam Hussein is a tyrant and a threat to the peace and stability of the region. He has ignored the mandate of the United Nations and is building weapons of mass destruction and th! e means of delivering them." -- Sen. Carl Levin (D, MI), Sept. 19, 2002

"We know that he has stored secret supplies of biological and chemical weapons throughout his country." -- Al Gore, Sept. 23, 2002

"Iraq's search for weapons of mass destruction has proven impossible to deter and we should assume that it will continue for as long as Saddam is in power." -- Al Gore, Sept. 23, 2002

"We have known for many years that Saddam Hussein is seeking and developing weapons of mass destruction." -- Sen. Ted Kennedy (D, MA), Sept. 27, 2002

"The last UN weapons inspectors left Iraq in October of 1998. We are confident that Saddam Hussein retains some stockpiles of chemical and biological weapons, and that he has since embarked on a crash course to build up his chemical and biological warfare capabilities. Intelligence reports indicate that he is seeking nuclear weapons..." -- Sen. Robert Byrd (D, WV), Oct. 3, 2002

"I will be voting to give the President of the United States the authority to use force -- if necessary -- to disarm Saddam Hussein because I believe that a deadly arsenal of weapons of mass destruction in his hands is a real and grave threat to our security." -- Sen. John F. Kerry (D, MA), Oct. 9, 2002

"There is unmistakable evidence that Saddam Hussein is working aggressively to develop nuclear weapons and will likely have nuclear weapons within the next five years ... We also should remember we have always underestimated the progress Saddam has made in development of weapons of mass destruction." -- Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D, WV), Oct 10, 2002

"He has systematically violated, over the course of the past 11 years, every significant UN resolution that has demanded that he disarm and destroy his chemical and biological weapons, and any nuclear capacity. This he has refused to do" -- Rep. Henry Waxman (D, CA), Oct. 10, 2002

"In the four years since the inspectors left, intelligence reports show that Saddam Hussein has worked to rebuild his chemical and biological weapons stock, his missile delivery capability, and his nuclear program. He has also given aid, comfort, and sanctuary to terrorists, including al Qaeda members. It is clear, however, that if left unchecked, Saddam Hussein will continue to increase his capacity to wage biological and chemical warfare, and will keep trying to develop nuclear weapons." -- Sen. Hillary Clinton (D, NY), Oct 10, 2002

"We are in possession of what I think to be compelling evidence that Saddam Hussein has, and has had for a number of years, a developing capacity for the production and storage of weapons of mass destruction." -- Sen. Bob Graham (D, FL), Dec. 8, 2002

"Without question, we need to disarm Saddam Hussein. He is a brutal, murderous dictator, leading an oppressive regime. He presents a particularly grievous threat because he is so consistently prone to miscalculation. And now he is miscalculating America's response to his continued deceit and his consistent grasp for weapons of mass destruction ... So the threat of Saddam Hussein with weapons of mass destruction is real." -- Sen. John F. Kerry (D, MA), Jan. 23. 2003

I especially like this one considering her bovine excrement she has been spreading lately.

And another li'l tip, NATO said Saddam had WMDs, the Russians said he had WMDs, the Senate of the US said he had WMDs, the CIA said he had WMDs. So, now who should we blame, or are you just looking for a scapegoat? Maybe we should just accept that everybody and their brother thought he had WMDs and just get on with what needs to be done instead of playing the blame game for political power.

And before anybody starts throwing political invectives my way, I am a member of NO political party. I vote by the individuals record, not what party he belongs to.

I shall end this li'l diatribe with a quote from my favorite British Politicians of all time, "Democracy, the worst form of government known to man, except for all the others tried." Sir Winston, you are absolutely correct. :D

I'm a draft dodger. I was called for military service in Poland (despite the fact that I've never lived there, I've only visited a couple of times) and never showed up. Got to love dual citizenship (I live in Melbourne, Australia).

I do believe you will be happy to learn that draft has officially ended in Poland. Young, nubile men will no longer be forced to lose their virginity under a shower.

Draft in my country has been abolished in 2007. I was taken to a recruiting center at the end of highschool, had to pass some tests and was declared AC (able combatant or something) then they told me that if i don't get into college in 2 months i'll be drafted.

They called me four months later to ask if i wanted to join, cause i had a high score on their crappy iq test (i wasn't uber smart, the test was designed for chimps i guess).

The psychological exam consisted of a few basic questions: are you insane? Do you want to kill yourself? Are you an alchoholic? Are you gay? Of course, everyone knew to put a no at all these questions. Answering yes to any question like that could get you in a lot of trouble, so if you were really insane or suicidal, it wasn't in your best interest to answer truthfully (that's why soldiers in my country go ballistic sometimes and shoot themselves or other ppl).

As i got into college, i no longer have to go in the army. I am a registered something, so they can call on me if they needed me. If the draft hadn't been abolished in 2007 i would've had to go after college. I wouldn't mind going to the army.

Fun. In Germany they can still draft you if you've only been to university for a few semesters, although they usually prefer scooping up the unemployed.

The stupid thing about our draft is, though, that the military could do better without it. All they are really interested in is the smart ones and most of those who don't want to serve will find ways to dodge it whereas those who want to would probably have went regardless of the draft.

Who'd you rather want to defend your country? An army of low-lives who were too stupid to figure out how to dodge the draft or a battalion of determined professionals?

It reminds me that in Germany they're talking about creating a medal like the iron cross. As I'm writting, the germans militaries don't have a medal to reward their bravery. They only receive a medal as regards the length of their enlistment. Actually, the iron cross existed before WWII so they could re-introduce it. But it would maybe recall bad memories.

the link of the video where I heard these stuffs (in french sorry) :

@Thorgrimm:

not to ruffle your feathers too much, but your own logic could also be implemented on USA and France. But France still gets pissed on on daily basis in the US anyway. (though it's been slightly better recently)

though i share your sentiment that many people who look down on military service or military in general are simply misinformed or are not willing to face the truth. (just like the people who hate nukes, because they can't see it's M.A.D. that saved our ass quite a few times)

@Ashmo:

it's a shame that the army is used to keep unemployed people busy and probably also to try and re-educate some youths, but i think the alternative wouldn't be particularily better. conscripts are VERY expensive soldiers though, which people often seem to forget.

but politically, i'm afraid that a tiny bit more of internal stability is more important than the operational effectiveness of the army.

@McRae:

the Iron Cross is probably one of the nicest military decorations, i know. i've always found it such a shame that due to those moronic nazimuffins the Wehrmacht was forced to get rid of it. :(

I'm curious welsh, has your friend decided? And were any of us helpful in any way?

Or, was this all a clever ruse to try and find out who amongst us serves so you can scam us for our credit card numbers and retire to some tropical island.

If it's the later, can i come too?

The problem is that our draft doesn't really do much about the problems it could fix as a side-effect (at the expense of some liberty anyway, but who ever cared about that?).

Pond scum goes in, pond scum comes out. Only difference being that the pond scum now knows how to use weapons to kill people. Yay.

Hello all! I have lurked here for many years but this topic hits near home with me so I figured it was a good time to post something :P

I am enlisting in the Marine Corps on my 20th birthday which is a few months from now. I scored high enough on the ASVAB to get almost any job I want (it was a 96) but I will be attempting to get Infantry as my MOS.

It is something I have always wanted to do for as long as I can remember. I support the war for the simple fact as I see it as "An eye for an eye". The one thing no one can disagree on in this conflict is that A LOT of extremist Muslims have died (and on the same note Muslim civilians).

But hey that is ok, 9/11 targeted civilians. I could care less how many of those fuckers we smoke.

And a lot more were created and provided with an enemy to direct their effort against.
