Modder that is remaking Fallout 1 in Fallout NV engine

Looks cool. The map travel was a bit wtf-ish at first, but It's better than having all these locations "right around the corner"

Now let's hope this project keeps momentum - untill it is actually finished!
Hugely ambitious, obviously
(I'm still waiting for Tamriel Rebuilt, for Morrowind. They've been at it for about a decade now, afaik, and are a bit past half way done. So... a mere decade more to wait!)

Here's one of the devs YouTube channel, there's a bit more up to date videos on it. https://www.youtube.com/user/arcoolka

I'm not holding my breath, to be honest. It would be cool if it got finished, but
1. One thing is the impressive ambition of making it a reality - another is to actually find genuine enjoyment in playing it. If it feels like playing someone's hobby mod, I doubt I'll bother for long. In order to avoid that, the mod will have to be, well, as near perfection as possible - and this... well... is gigantically ambitious :D

Unrealistically ambitions. I mean, huge props IF... but yeah...

2. Modders have lives that demand their attention. They are not bound by contracts, and even less paid for their hours. Projects that are bound to last many years (and this one certainly is) will really test the perseverance of the team. All of a sudden one of them got a full time job, another got a kid, one got run over by a bus, and poof, project delayed with 30 years (or just died out). There's a reason commercial games have end-credits with hundreds of names, taking long minutes to scroll through, like a movie production.

And again, I mean... if they manage to create a superficially impressive FO1 world, the scrutiny of those playing would be quite high :D We know that! And nobody would mean ill towards the developers if it did not reach the sky-high standards for a FO1 "remake", but it would not be the same, and it would feel like a "decent attempt, but alas... "

There's a reason these kinds of projects are so rare - we, the players, will expect them to fucking nail it, and nothing less! Again, anything less we would probably applaud the effort, but I wouldn't want to download and play a huge mod for the sake of effort, I want them to fucking nail it! :D

Well, again, here's to hoping it surpasses expectation!

With most mods, it will probably look shoddy when compared to game where they got paid to develop it. However, their previous mod, Fallout Zero, looks good.

Sorry to be a party pooper but "Fallout 1 remake mods" pop up every year, they never get completed. NEVER.

I get Deja Vu everytime I see "fallout 1 remake". Ever since Fallout 3 came out I've seen mods pop up left and right and nothing ever comes from them but a handful of videos of a shoddily put together Shady Sands or Vault 15. I almost want to see a "themepark" mod that's just a large world space with all the failed and abandoned Fallout 1 remake locations in a line up.

Well, but this one here is in the works for a few years already, as far as I can remember.

Doesn't mean it will ever get finished, though.

I don't think it will ever be "finished" to the condition you could play it and feel like, "Wow, this really is a well made Fallout remake in the NV engine!" - the modders might even say it's done, but I imagine it will invariably feel like it's just a shoddy reconstruction of the locations with a bare-bones questline to connect them (if even that). Now, I'm not trying to discredit the modders here, and it's not impossible to remake a relatively short game like Fallout 1, but I think the people who start these projects don't really get how much of a huge undertaking it is to make a game and have it feel solid, polished. You ever played those lame-ass RPG Maker games that are full of empty space, hastily put-together areas and just feel amateurish? That's the most you can expect from this project or any similar ones.

I am a good friend of one of the modders that is part of Fallout The Story (since we both are part of a different FNV Project's Team) and Fallout The Story is progressing slowly but good, the team there are having a lot of care for the locations and quests, they made from scratch many resources to be like the ones in Fallout 1 and used a few by other famous modders like TrickyVein (that made modder resources like "Sandcrete Architecture" and "Some Classic Fallout Architecture" which can both found on the FNV Nexus).
All the people working on Fallout The Story are passionate about the classic games and try to their best to make if have a familiar and similar feel to it, although due to the totally different engines some things couldn't be avoided and not be the same.
I am actually excited about that project and I hope it will be a good homage to Fallout 1, although I will always prefer the classic one to be honest .
Damn, just realised I sound like someone in a TV ad selling a product :twitch:...
