true, he just said the president of USA to do the bomb 'cause he thought hitler was doing it too. When he knew that it was wrong, he wrote a letter to the president (the same ) in order to stop the manhattan project

Yes, exactly. It wasn't FDR's fault because it was going to be either the USA or the Nazis who ended up with the bomb and of course no one wanted an A-Bomb wieldin' Nazi Germany. Truman was the moron who bombed Hiroshima and Nagasaki when he didn't have to.
Truman bombed H&N not only to put a fast end to the war, but also to 1- test the effects of the bomb on population of a city and 2- to make a grand entrance to the new age with "an ace in the hole and an ace in the hand", if that's the correct expression.

Plus, to test out two types of bombs: a pure uranium bomb and a plutonium bomb.

Well Norwegian (or was it the Swiss?) special ops sabotaged Germany's nuclear research plant before an atomic bomb could be made which is probably why London still exists right now...
Also in order to say (truman) :"look people, USA is a big country, so dont try to be stupid with us !" (I think it's quite what he said)... But, what is true is that to show other countries that nuclear era begin, in his speech, he said "we control the solar power" (=fusion)... (note : he was wrong, haha ! in a nuke bomb, it's fission, and not fusion )

It was Norwegian (me proud who blew up the factory who made the water used in to cool the reactors (don't now what it is called in english, here we call it "Tungtvann", witch would translate as "Heavywater".
Heavywater is Deuterium (isotop of hydrogen)+ 2 oxygen...
Deuterium = Proton + neutron... so it's heavy... and H2O with H as deuterium is heavy too... so it's heavy water..., Tungtvann in norwegian and eau lourde in french (if you want to know and complete your foreign culture )

Little Boy had highly-enriched uranium (average of 80%, a mix of 89% and 50% enriched uranium), but that's hardly pure And wasn't the Gadget a plutonium device?

I think the first bomb dropped (I forget which is which) was the Uranium bomb and the second, the Plutonium.

And it is extremely expensive to make. You have to make a tube something like 200 feet high, fill it with some sort of balls and do something with it to get a little bit of deuterium.
What's cool about "heavy water" is that its ice doesn't float in normal water. Pretty expensive ice...
was it TRINITY the test bomb, which explodes near Los Alamos? i'm not sure...

I was reading the same document, only mirrored on http://www.fas.org (100% similar). Hold on, weren't portions of High Energy Archive used in Fallout 1 manual?
