New Fallout: New Vegas screenshots

One thing that describes super mutant skin, Leathery.

Also, SMs like Harry and the Lou, had a half/human/half superSM look to them. They were not orcs, didn't have glowing (or were they just whites) eyes, and didn't always have to have a perpetual "I am King Kong" facial expression.

Once they finish the teeth texture it'll be quite nice. It's still not the classic SMs but they are certainly making a reasonable effort within their limited time frame and resources to make them look closer. I'm interested to see if they change much in the future. It does look a little funky to see Obsidians good quality textures combined with Bethesda's stretched, crappy ones.

BTW aren't people responsible for creating\animating\texturing models only doing that particular thing? I mean if they do, then improving models certainly has no impact on the rest of the game's areas, like combat or dialogue.

Generally speaking, modelers model, coders code, world builders build the world, and writers write the dialogue and plot. There is specialization, yes.

I assume their writers will do a much better job than Beth. 100 chimps could do a better job.

They're not going to re-work the engine or basic gameplay, however, so I expect those to remain at about the same level of shit-tastic.

Yes and no.

This isn't the only project Obsidian is working on. Alpha Protocol went gold a bit ago but was developed alongside this for quite a while. I think they were still working on their Onyx Engine Game but I'm not sure. Regardless, since this is a project with specific demands, one could imagine there are less texturers/artists, animators, modellers and programmers assigned to this game than normal. Hence why all we see is a load of tweaks, in gameplay and looks.

Sucks, but can't be helped.

I love Mister Sawyer. I have a serious man-crush on that dude. He's cute. My girlfriend agrees.
Also, I'm so glad that he, among others in the crew, are so vocal about their design choices. It really shows they care.
Also, face-straps are amazing, regardless of whether or not the mutie needs. I mean, it would be really awesome if there was some obvious amount of baggy skin going on up over his lip, but the addition is definitely welcomed with open arms. It's better than creme-colored clones rambling around everywhere with goddamned Wes Johnson's voice all over them. I really hope Bethsoft didn't push him over to Obsidian for a job. Because that guy's voice has gotten on my nerves since Oblivion. But if he is on NV, I hope its a robot or something non-sentient so we don't get a bunch of needless grumbling and harsh tones, not to mention the same goddamned male voice for every male character.

I doubt we'll get a more finished one, unfortunately.

Why not? They've already remodeled the entire head, why not add some more detail and texture to the, um, texture?

Time constraints? At first they weren't even sure if they'll manage to find time to reskin them at all, hence they originally used Fallout 3 super mutant models.

They are co-developing the Wheel of Time game, not sure if it's the same thing as the unannounced Onyx game or not.

Messing around in photoshop and grafting marcus's skin onto this mutant got me this :

We're talking about making one green texture look leathery. A modder could probably do that in about an hour.

I like them too. Try posting the same at Bethesda forums and everyone will say it sucks. Though IMO most Fallout 3 fans don't even go to forums.

The thing is that, as I said, what matters is whether most people like it, not whether it's close to the original mutants.

Oh, and imagine if they brought the Fallout atmosphere into Fallout 3...

Background isn't blindingly white, and can see more detail in face, particularly in the cheek.
