New screenshots from Fallout 3 site

What the hell to they mean by limbs? Can he eat his crippled leg to heal himself?

Lmao.

I actually think it just switches the view from perhaps general health to the health of his limbs. Just my theory.

Limbs probably means healing the limbs.

What confuses me is the whole limbs having (what I assume to be) health bars next to them. It reminds me of Front Mission wherein you can blow off your enemy's arms and legs but they won't die until you blow up their chest compartment.

Hopefully, that is not the case in Fallout 3 since your enemies won't be giant robots... unless they are giant robots.

I'm wondering if the Supermutant in the first picture was break-dancing because otherwise it looks pretty much like Oblivon-NPC-physics where a arrow send peoples flying high...
But okay, a lot of games got problems with physics of death characters. But it was a thing that was really badly done in Oblivion.

So a question for the guys who actually saw video-footage, how well was this done in the videos? Or did they mention that it wasn't final or something like that?

It's not the first picture of the Pip-Boy, but i don't know, it looks as if a damn lot of space is wasted for this stupid thing. I mean the real information seems to be packed to ~1/4 of the whole screen, wich at least seems to be pretty small on the picture. Guess it would be better on a real screen...
So if i should rate it from this picture i only would give it a 4 on scala of 10 points whereas 10 is the best.

The pic with the landscape/settlement looks pretty cool. But then again i wouldn't judge the overall landscape and feeling of their world just by screens, as i think you also got nice screens of the Oblivion world, while the world itselfs felt pretty 'repetive'.

"Crippled head" may sound funny, i don't know, i don't speak english that well ... But i guess what it means is that this particular part of the body sustained heavy damage and this fact have some impact on the characters efficiency/skills. So with crippled leg you'd move slower, with crippled arm you'd have hard time handling weapons and use doctor or repair skills, crippled eyes would seriously influence your perception. Now with "crippled" head you might have brain shock, broken skull or whatever. It wont kill you but translates to severe penalty to all skills.

Also, did anyone notice that there are no separate health bars for head and eyes ?
At the upper left of the pipboy screen you got 3 tags, CND, RAD and EFF. Perhaps CND is general condition of the body while all things that influence your skills, good (buffs) and bad (hurt eyes, broken limbs, addict effects) go into EFF tab. Just a wild guess.

Looks like they slipped in a reference to A Boy and His Dog. Check out the player name.

Whoa good catch. I didn't notice and I own the damn movie.

Or, it's possible this is a reference to Fallout 1 Albert, one of the pre-made player characters available in that game.

how on earth did that guy end up on his head with his leg being shot off?
Clearly the supermutant was going for the Frankensteiner

Somebody please tell me that's not a crashed zeppelin in the second pic.

Wow 85 AP.

And to think 8 used to be considered a good amount!

to me, anything less than 10 was fail. i always pick gifted as a trait and raise my AG to 10. usually IN came next for me. i swear, if the character creation sucks in this game, then i'm going to spend less than 15 minutes on it. "You're Special" and "GOAT" still have me worried. also, i guess pipboy and vaultboy are now one and the same? haha! take that, fallout canon!

it's the city of megaton ofc, and it's a sad ripoff of junktown imo. yeah, thats right, i said it. and the sad part is that it's most likely sans richard dean anderson.

also: if you cripple a head, aren't you dead? i mean, your head is crippled...

Good call. As much as I'd like to see references to A Boy and His Dog (which shouldn't be too hard for the game, what with having a constant dog companion with seemingly-psychic abilities), a reference to the old pre-made characters makes more sense. Now I'm all sad.

Give it a little more thought.

The good thing is a dev' stoped by today to check the new screen shots thread in the fallout site. I hope he was left wondering why people don't like mutants doing somersaults!! :P

The screenshots released at this stage are pretty much from the final version.

Why do you say so? If these images were published a while back by the press, I doubt they'd be all that fresh, though perhaps a few months ago they should've already had a more or less final version. I hope they're from a demo though, because the ratios of level, HP and AP (and the xp) seem out of proportion. It would mean (suprise, suprise) a total overhaul of the game (mainly combat) mechanics. It doesn't look final at all to me (which isn't to say I don't believe it actually is the final version), the way its orginized makes little sense, especially that 'limb' button; there are no precise values for the damage level of each body part (a new feature, I not certain if I like it, but it makes sense) just approximate bars, but to be honest what I suppose is bugging me most are those HP and AP levels, and at level 5(!), that can't be, not in the final version!

Quick reminder question, they said you get a perk every 2nd or was it 4th level (in FO3)?

Anybody guessed what the three letter acronyms in the upper left corner stand for?

CND - probably condition
RAD - definetly radiation (right?)
EFF - effects? chemical effects?

There's also a "damage" bar underneath the head. Crippled ribs? Youch.

@Jabu, keep calm, i think he was answering my question about the supermutant-pic, and therefore meant 'graphical final'.
Games undergo balance-mechanic changes until the last minutes, so i wouldn't count on the stats the now release, especially when a lot of RPG's showed pictures of 'wrong' stats.

It was AC. There is no Armor Class anymore in FO3. Just Damage Resistance.

Why would they be publishing outdated screenshots at a stage when they have a mostly final version already?
