NFL 2009

You guys are gonna make out OK with the Dom Capers/3-4 shift. Pats seem to be moving away from the 3-4. They played one preseason game exclusively 4-3 and another 3-4. Say what you want about Belichik, but I love his defensive schemes.

One Coach bag, some fuck-me go-go boots and a trip to Sak's 5th Avenue later and my wife caved on the HD TV scene. Holy shit is that picture good, especially with sports. I could see every crater in Hideki Matsui's face last night. Fucking can't wait until this season starts, until then I'll have to amuse myself getting baked and watching Planet Earth episodes.

Nice. Sports in HD are unreal. It's like they're suddenly in focus for the first time in your life. It becomes hard to watch them the old way.

Sanchez looked like he was ready to start crying after that Ravens game. :D

Can't get HD Football here. In fact, the only football we can get at all is ESPN America, which is ESPN for Europe. At least it's a decent quality digital signal.

The change isn't that dramatic for us Euros, though, as for some reason our standard definition signal has always been of a much higher quality than the US signal.

That was one horrendous start to the game. First three throws were a pick 6, an incomplete that was really close to being a pick (and would've been a pick 6 if the defender had held on to the ball), and a 30-yard gain that was erased because of an offensive holding penalty (without that holding he would've been sacked).

Flacco, on the other hand, looked great as the centre point of a Ravens' passing game.

I really hate the Jets with a passion, but I find Snachez a likable kid. I think he made a mistake coming out of college early though. There's something to be said for guys like Brady, Eli Manning, Steve Young and Aaron Rodgers who held clipboards for a while before they started taking snaps.

Sanchez is going to go through the baptism by fire mode, which is great experience, but you need to write off the first year completely. Aikman, Payton they fucking sucked in their rookie years, but that one learning year paved the way to glory.
I don't see Jets fans or organization being a patient bunch though.

Guys like Flacco and Roethlisberger don't count since although having great rookie seasons, they played on run heavy teams and were game managers. That's going to be Sanchez' role this year, Jets will have the best running game in the AFC this year with Jones & Washington (who looked really inpressive last night and has always been underutilized).
Matt Ryan doesn't count either, he was a rookie only technically, he played a 5th year of college in which he took like 2 classes the whole year. All his time was spent working out and getting ready for the big show. It shows, he's got his shit together. Compared to Sanchez who looked really in over his head last night.

fuck! i was playing a show last night and didn't get to watch the game. guess i'll head on over to NFL.com to watch the highlights...shit sounds hilarious (*though i DO agree with Cinnabuns that Sanchez thus far seems like a very likable guy).

fuckin' a, his first three throws turned into defensive TD's?? bwahahahaha!

EDIT: i totally read yr post wrong, Sander. hehe. i thought you said his first three throws were intercepted, but now watching it i get what you said. duh.

I really appreciate the fuck-me go-go boots you bought the wife, they looked great in the nude pics she sent me via facebook...

You mean in general, or has he gone above and beyond his usual attempts to make himself look like a complete jackass? I love the name change, especially since the lague refused to recognize it until his old jerseys sold out. Then I guess he really wanted Ocho-Cinco on his birth cert. but fucked that up an he's legally Ochocinco, and the state won't fix it. He can't even whore himself out properly.

Also, I think Jared Allen is making a great bid for consideration as one of the leagues elite attention whores, he's a long way from ochocinco but put a mike in front of him and watch how fast he puts his foot in his mouth. What a clown.

One of the guys in my league lives in Jamaica Plain, and although he's a Vikings fan, his wife is a Pats fan, so he pays attention to the Pats. He said the same thing about them playing more 4-3 this year.

I was pretty skeptical about Green Bay's 3-4 switch at first, but since the draft I've come around, and now it seems to be working better than I expected.

Factoid: Green Bay actually used to play a 3-4 back in the 80s.

Spitz beat out Wells at center. There's a rumor the Pack might trade Wells to Seattle.

I thought about drafting Chad 85 as my kicker.

I strongly disagree. Allen is just a character. I don't really see him going out of his way to get attention.

At the same time, I think people are just pissed because he's better than their defensive end :D

They sure do. On the road at Arizona and they rack up a 38-10 lead by halftime. And unlike the Bills and the Browns the Cards were actually a competent team. They were able to move the ball, at least.

Rodgers looks improved, the o-line looks improved, Grant is healthy, and Driver and Al Harris both look like age hasn't caught up to them yet. Even that halfwit Anthony Smith is playing good.

And then there's Jermichael Finley, who I grabbed off the waiver wire in my fantasy league the day before the game... :P

The absolute best thing though, is that it looks like they might have a decent punter this year, for the first time since Craig Hentrich went to the Titans.

was watching the game/chatting with the people at packershome.com who stream the games privately for members and i think 3 or 4 of us all did the same thing at the same time!

Homer move.

Just heard Teddy Bruschi will retire tomorrow, more likely BB is forcing him to fall on his sword so he gets the dignity of a state funeral. Love the guy, but this move is about 2 years too late. He's really a weak link, and doesn't so much tackle people anymore as he does feebly trip them while they are running over him. I just hope a Junior Seau signing isn't looming on the horizon. :shudder:

The guy never met a mic he didn't like and his favorite topics of conversation seem to be how his ass looks and his 70s porn star moustache hurrr. No thanks. I never said he wasn't a good pass rusher, but so aren't TO and Ocho good receivers. Talking about their proclivity towards making themselves look like dipshits off the field.

I disagree. He's a high risk high reward player. I wouldn't take him as my number one, but he definitely has the potential to be a big scorer. He's too fast for linebackers to cover and too big for DBs to cover. The biggest question is the number of targets he'll see, since he has lots of competition in the offense. Anyway, I picked him up before the two TDs against Arizona, because I've seen him play in the preseason games. I landed Gonzo as my #1 TE, so the risk is worth it.

It's always nice to have players from the team you're going to be watching the most though.

There's a reason he picked the number "69".

Seriously, that's the reason. :|

Personally I don't find his schtick the slightest bit entertaining, but there's no question he is a dominant DE.

I read through the last 4 pages a bit and geez...why do so many people hate the Vikings?

I mean, shit, I think only the Eagles or Bills have had more awful twist of fate moments in their franchise history.

BarackSays said:

I don't hate the Vikes. But, I guess it remains to be seen with the Favre thing:

whether he can actually play
if he can last a full season at his age
if he'll lead the league in INTs again
if he was signed just to put asses in seats in a town that can't sell out games.

That
is why they play the game. We shall find out.

well, two of us are die-hard Packer fans. and if that doesn't answer your question then come a bit closer, sit on my dick, and i'll explain it further.
