NFL 2009

Now you're getting it, I'm just gloating.

Well, grow the fuck up and stop it, Masshole.

He'll struggle in KC somewhat, but who wouldn't? I think the perception of him is overblown. I'm just glad the team capitalized on his fleeting success to get something for him when he could've walked.

Yeah, but not much. The 2nd round pick still weirds me out a bit. But it goes to show that despite some shows of incompetence, FO managers in the NFL are still smarter than average fans, and know not to sacrifice too much on a gamble.

(Seahawks giving up a first-rounder for Branch excepted. That was just stupid)

dudes. you guys are making my asshole leak.

me and UniWolf gonna go hang out and eat cheese while you guys continue suckin' each others' philosophical pigskin cocks, mmmkay?

*shakes head*

I will not, until they stop winning. Especially not after last year, I'm flaunting it until they stop winning. Which will happen someday. But until then, turnabout is fair play.

Yeah people here were pitching fits that we didn't get a 1st rounder for him... And then the Vrabel throw in *gasp*. Whatever, he was a cap casualty anyway, at least trading him keeps the Jets grubby paws off him. Because we all know the Jets love the Pats sloppy seconds.

(Seahawks giving up a first-rounder for Branch excepted. That was just stupid)
I really liked Deion Branch, but the Pats let him walk for a reason. Another guy coming off the game off his life and wanting to cash in. Well, he got his money, but where is he now?

I don't know about you guys, but I couldn't stand that whole Cheeseheads Vs. Chowderheads flap that the national media manufactured for SB XXXI. It's so tiring the way the media has to concoct these artificial "stories" to pander to the mainstream. I don't know of anyone around here that's ever identified themselves as "Chowdaaaaheads" before or since.

And a good smoked Provolone is hard to beat. Maybe a good Vermont Cheddar huh?

To be honest, I don't even remember the Cheeseheads v. Chowdaheads thing, but it sounds dumb enough for the sports media.

And nothing beats Gouda. 8-)

So the Giants are going to pay a career 56% completion QB $15Mil a year? They won't regret that come free-agent resigning time.
I realize there's not much better out there, and they want to shore him up long term, but Eli Manning is one miraculous Hail Mary away from being marginally OK. I watch all the Giants games, the dude can't throw worth a damn in his own home stadium. And receivers like Plaxico - any stiff can throw it in his general area and he can get it - he covered up a lot of Eli's inadequacies. Toomer too, how many times does he save the ball from hitting the turf?

I think this is going to be a bad year for Eli. He doesn't strike me as half the leader his brother is, and he definately doesn't have Payton's skills, so why pay him more? It's lunacy.

Actually, from a cap perspective, this new contract is freeing up cap space. It's a slightly under league average contract in guaranteed money (it's lighter than Carson Palmer's was 4 years ago, and definitely lighter than Tom Brady's guaranteed-heavy contract).

Basically, they went from him taking a 13 million cap hit in his next, last year, to taking a 9 million cap hit. Considering they were only 4 million under cap, they kind of needed that extra elbow room.

He really doesn't belong in the same conversation as Palmer, Brady or the other top 10 QBs in the league. He's a 2nd tier talent making top tier money because of ...pedigree?
He's so...blah. Statistically he's slightly good, leadership-wise he's passive, on the field he's skittish (GM's words). But Lo! When the repressive yolk of the mercurial Shocky was lifted off his shoulders our saviour could truly blossom. Gimmieafucking break will ya?
He's a fair/good QB, but New York fans don't have alot of tolerance for max contract guys that don't produce.

I think they might be thinking he'll put up 2008-like numbers for the rest of his career, topping 60% completion with a QBRat above 85. That does seem unlikely.

With a playmaking receiver, he wasn't asking to do too much behind an epic running game and great defense. I guess that doesn't change.

So yeah, I agree he's overpaid, but from a cap and lack-of-talent-in-the-market perspective, I understand it.

<hr>

GodDAMN those Patriots. They nabbed Burgess from Oakland. Burgess is getting older (32 is the regression age for DEs), but he's better than many people realise. His sack stat has regressed, but sacks don't tell you everything, he was still credited with a mass of QB hurries in 2008, and should massively improve the Pats pass rush

Probably got him for a nothing pick too

The Raiders must love getting robbed by the Pats, Moss for a 4th, Lamont Jordan for nothing. Nice pickup. It's hard to miss Pioli when he's replaced by Floyd Reese, great personell guy.

Sure, neither Peppers nor Jason Taylor. Burgess is small consolation compared to them, but he'll earn peanuts compared to what Peppers is getting - like $16M or something - not even in the realm of consideration there.
Team is looking mighty fucking stacked right about now. They won 11 games last year now they add Brady, Fred Taylor, Galloway, Springs, and Bodden. Losing an aged Vrabel and Ellis "Toast" Hobbes will hardly be noticed. Can't complain about their off-season moves the last couple years...

Always a good plan to bring in hungry veterans who've never won a championship. That's what Green Bay did when they won the SB with Keith Jackson, Sean Jones, and Andre Rison. They know this might be their last shot, so they don't mess around.

Or because God tells them to. You guys neutered the Eagles taking KJ and Reggie White.
It can bite you in the ass too though. My fear is that if Burgess flops, Bruschi is really becoming a liability, that we may see Junior Seau and Rosy Colvin get trotted out again. ugh.
The key with the old-timers is exploiting their desire for a trophy over a fat paycheck, that way you don't lose much if they fizzle out. Pats D is becoming like the NFL senior tour, they need more fresh blood. It's funny how a team that was all D and a good kicker to start their Championship run, turn into a high-powered offense with a pourous D. Can't say I really like it, I don't really care for the gaudy offensive displays, I'd rather a power running game and smash mouth defense come winter in Foxboro.

Yeah but that's different. Reggie was a prophet. :D

I think God wanted to punish Philadelphia.

A few years ago we got Hardy Nickerson after he was washed up. That didn't work out too well.

Well, just secured premium tickets for the Buccaneers v Patriots game in London, the only NFL game to be played in Europe for the coming year. Regular tickets were sold out within 30 minutes back in january(makes you wonder about the NFL Europe failing).

£399 for the most expensive (ie only one still available) package, but totally worth it.

Cool, too bad you're not getting a competitive game though. I haven't actually been to a Pats game in like 15 or so years. My dad used to take me to Pats games, it was awesome watching actual professional teams come to town to stomp a mudhole in our little semi-pro team. Pats tickets have been untouchable since the day Parcells became the new coach. A good buddy of mine is a lifelong 'Skins fans so I'm obligated to drive down to the Meadowlands every once in a while when they play the G-men. Gotta love NFC east ball. Good stuff, way more subdued and anal crowd than in NE though.

I've got to say though, and the weather in this area is no small part of this, unless you get 50yd line tickets in the 1st section, I'd rather watch the game at home. Tailgating is fun, getting all fucked up and hollaring is fun. But without good seats you actually miss out a lot on what's going on. The beer & food inside is rapaciously expensive, the weather sucks here - you're either getting baked in late-summer or frostbitten in winter, when I went to the old Foxboro we sat on actual metal bleachers in winter temps...brrr, traffic, parking. I'm glad I've been, but I don't think I've ever actually been to a "good game" either (again pre-Parcells Pats).

But NFL in Wembley (?) would have to be cool. I'm jealous. Enjoy the blowout dude.

It was a mistake to pull the plug on NFL Europe. Supposedly it was losing 10 million every year, but they were getting some priceless information in return for that money. As a testbed for rules changes and as a training league for players, coaches, and player-announcers, it can't be replaced.

In case anyone missed it, the Packers looked good last night. Or the Browns looked putrid. Hard to say which.

My favorite player no one has heard of, ILB Desmond Bishop, continued his three-year streak of looking like Ray Lewis in the pre-season. Maybe he'll finally get to play some this year.

Yeah, it's in Wembley. The price gets me premium seats (in the bottom rows), free drinks starting three hours before the match, a free three-course meal, a champagne reception (heh), seperate entrance, and access to all the amenities in the separate VIP section of the stadium. Probably worth the price.

We could've gone for one of the legal scalping sites as well, but that'd mean paying almost half what we're paying now for shitty tickets with no perks. So we decided to go baller.

I'm fairly sure these tickets are normally meant for businesses who want to charm some new client, or reward a loyal one.

I'm so looking forward to this.

Isn't that what Arena Football is for, now?
Too bad I only got into football after the NFL Europe stopped.
