NFL 2009

They do catch a lot of shit for their passblocking due to Ben's style, but they were 23rd in the league in rushing last year, showed little improvement in the opener FWIW, and Faneca was a big loss. Tenn is tough, but it's not like Haynesworth is still out there, and Parker and the other dude have looked lackluster going back to last year, but they aren't getting great holes to run through.

Love the pats old unis, they need to drop that flying Elvis crap and go back to Pat Patriot.

The Bills D is looking great, and Brady isn't looking great, surprisingly. Looks uncomfortable and is missing a ton of short passes. Unsure how these two factors interact, I feel like Brady isn't looking too hot because the Bills are getting a lot of pressure on him.

I'd be cheering this on if it weren't for Moss being on my team. Cognitive dissonance for the win!

Brady looks like a guy in his first game back after an entire year off from blowing his knee out. I wouldn't expect to see '07 Brady until halfway through the season. Schoebel has always been his boogeyman, and the Bills, are never as bad as people think. The Bills just never peak until December.

You mean last year when they were down to a 3rd string running back for half the year? Also in a year that they could win games with by passing the ball. A big reason the Steelers are so succesful is that they are a balanced offense. They aren't dependent on the run so they don't feel forced to dominate on the ground every game.

Again, against a very good defense. Albert Haynesworth is good, but it's not like he's there whole defense. In fact, he subs out a lot due ot his size, his backups are first stringers anywhere esle.

We've only seen one game. Pittsburgh will have some great rushing games this year.

Their offense may well be balanced, but it's mediocre (17th in passing, 20th in scoring last year).

Pittsburg wins because of defense - they are quite simply the best in the NFL.

Defense wins championships, they proved that many times already.

Of course defense wins championships - but a competant offense is the base of any great team. You have to be able to be somewhat affective on O. Then having a great defense is what gets you to Elite status.

There are absolutely no O-Line issues in Pittsburgh. They are good enough to get the job done (just like they did last year).

Raiders got screwed last night, too bad, because they put together a pretty solid game. We don't get to watch a lot of Raiders games back east, they looked fairly competant, and Cable doesn't seem to be as in-over-his-head or psychotic as the press would lead me to believe. I like this guy.

Richard Seymour looked piiiiiiissed last night, and he was taking it out on the Chargers big time. Go get that $16M franchise tag dude!

And I just love watching Tomlinson fade into irrelevancy.

Yeah that was brutal, I mean it's one thing when the Raiders screw themselves over like they do so regularly, it's another when they actually look like they are starting to put things together, are controlling a SD team that many have picked to go all the way and the get a bad call like that. You catch a ball, both feet go down, elbow goes down, ass goes down - plays over, that's a TD.

That was a 3rd and forever TD pass that gets called back, they settle for the field goal, and up by losing by that 4 point deficit.

Well i am sure the league will issue them an apology after reviewing the tape.

That should make them feel better.

As for preseason predictions i don't go by them too much.It all seems like a bunch of voodoo to me.Each year a couple of teams being picked as being among the elite end up having mediocre or bad seasons.

Weather forecaster and football expert are the only two proffesions where you can be wrong about half the time and people still listen to you.

No shit, is there anything more superfluous than when the clowns on the pre-game shows make their picks? And I love it then they give scores too. And they all hover around .500 - and they are picking outright winners, not against the spread! That's piss poor. The fact that nobody ever holds them to these bullshit predictions is a good indication of how much regard people have for them.

I only respect the bookmakers in that regard as at least they put their money where their mouth is.

The thing with parity now - nobody knows what's going to happen. I'd bet that half the teams that make the playoffs this year didn't make it last year. You had two 9 win teams in the NFC Championship last year. Basicaly any mediocre team who comes on stong at the end of the year can run the table - look at Cards '08 and Giants '07. And this is a good thing IMO.

The other thing is how, pretty soon the media will start crowning or burying teams by week 4, and this trend comes earlier and earlier every year it seems. There's this massive rush to judgement from a tiny sample size. I'm still waiting for some dipshit to tell me that Drew Brees is on pace to score 6x16 TDs. :aiee:

In fairness though to some of the football guys they look really uncomfortable when asked to make predictions.

BTW i see your Pats are fucked.

Mike Greenberg from the Mike and Mike show picked them to win the Super Bowl.

You know, I never realized how much the NFL missed Pat until I saw him back on the field.

The PR people missed a golden opportunity with that game. It should've been 1970's retro night. They should've offered every fan who dressed 70's a voucher for a free hot dog. Now we just need the Bucs to go back to the orange.

BTW, what happens if Cutler throws 3 or 4 INTs against the Steelers?

Those guys are such tools, and I'm a huge fan of Golic's work back in the Philly Buddy Ryan/Gangrene days.

Pats have a long way to go, especially now that Mayo is down. Here comes Junior Seau...:puke:

I actually like the old Creamsicle/Gay Pirate logo too, it was definately in the so bad it's good category.

I liked the new logo initially and the pirate ship in the stands, but being in Florida it just seems so ... Disney now.

I bet a lot of teams (Carolina too) are wishing they went after Vick. It's going to be funny when he does start taking snaps, he looked so sloppy in that one preseason game.

Maybe other teams will do what the Steelers did and adopt their throwback jerseys as the third offical uniform.Maybe wear them 2-3 times a season.

I really don't know if anyone else has this practise already.

i like/miss the old Bucs uniform, i do. reminds me of the days when Testeverde guaranteed the Packers our only win of the season.

GO BUCS!!

My pal, who's going with me to the Pats v Bucs game in Wembley, and I have decided to support the Bucs, because it's just an awesome team name/concept/theme (Swash-buc-lers, seriously), and because we didn't want to support a hopeless team like the Raiders. Also, supporting an easy team like the Pats or Steelers is no fun either.

Sounds like a good plan, since the Pats are going to be heavy, heavy favorites in that game.

It could actually be a good game to watch, with lots of scoring. The Bucs look bad on defense so the Pats should put up lots of points, and the Bucs look pretty good on offense so they should score some points too.

Besides, how can you support the Patriots in England? It's the most anti-british team in the NFL.

You have to support the hometown team which is what i and CN do.

Do what i do and root for the Texans if you want to support an underdog team.
