NFL - week 13 seems like as good a week as any

I've been wanting to start an NFL thread for some time, but could never decide when...Same rules apply as to "soccer" threads. If you don't care for the sport, stay out and spare us your "lol NFL" spam.

Also, next year, we should start an NMA NFL Pick 'em or possibly fantasy team, if there's interest. Why? Because I'm really good at both (currently picking at 114-58, better than any Yahoo! "expert", which amuses me).

Anyway, let us discuss this great <s>religion</s>sport.

Teams that suck too bad to exist: Miami Dolphins, San Fransisco 49ers, Atlanta Falcons, Oakland Raiders. The Rams are recovering without their injuries, and rising. The Baltimore Ravens, Caroline Panthers are falling. I'm still unsure about the Jets, I think they're being miscoached by Mangenius, and not as bad as they look. wtf @ T-Jones.

Teams that are overrated badly: Tennessee Titans, fuck them. NY Giants...definitely fuck them. Cleveland Browns, they ain't shit.

Teams that are underrated badly: Jacksonville Jaguars. I know it ain't pretty, but it works. Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Same story.

Teams that can't be overrated: NE Patriots and nobody else.

Teams that could go toe-to-toe with the Pats and last a full quarter: Colts, Jags, Steelers, Packers and Cowboys. It's over after that full quarter, though.

Lots of love for:
NFCs top teams, Packers and Cowboys. I think the NFC has been getting a bit too much hate over the last decade, but these two should at least put up a show at the Superbowl, compared to the Chicago Embearassment last year or the Superbowl of the Seahawks vs the Referees the year before.

Lots of hate for:
NFC and AFC West. Always hated the AFC West, but what the hell is up at the NFC? I like both the Arizona Retardinals and the 49ers, and the Seahawks are my favourite team (for reasons I can't explain), but this is as embarrassing as watching the Bears decide on a starting QB.

Wow me:
At last week's Cleveland v Baltimore. I dislike both teams, but what an ending.
At this week's Hawks vs Rams and 49ers vs the Retards. Both fun games with fun endings (just watching Rackers miss his OT fieldgoal now).

But the biggest wow moment, my favourite single moment of this season...

The underrated, best-RB-of-the-2k6-draft (Bush is pure hype, Maroney is a failure, Addai is in an offense anyone can run it, MoJo is it) knocks out the completely overrated Shawne Merriman, showing this once-"unstoppable" sack monster isn't shit without his steroids.

...

Discuss.

There is only one really good thing to come out of being a 49ers fan for me, REALLY thick skin!

The highlight of this year for me. (being the spiteful little bastard that I am) was the game where Peyton Manning threw interception after interception aginst the Chargers which was just freaking awesome!

My picks for the superbowl Cowboys vs Patriots, just a gut feeling.

M. Barber rushes to the right for 2 yards

Yeah, that was an amazing play.

It's not a running back year, this year, especially with Purple Jesus out.

Also, the Pack is going to looooooose to America's Team. Sorry. Dem's the facts.

idiots! how could they let that happen??????

No one runs angry like Marion Barber III. I wouldn't wanna be the chump trying to tackle him.

Hehe, Ironic that when I became a niners fan soooooo long ago it was in the NFC championship game when they beat the Cowboys (my old mans team) and went on to win the superbowl, which started a yearly rivalry between us that I usually (by usually I mean always) end up losing.

Definitely not a RB year, sorry Frank Gore you hybrid ninja turtle look al.......... Go Niners!

I don't know, I'd wait to pass judgement on them, and besides, Jamal Lewis and Kellen Winslow ain't a bad pair to have on your team.

The Colts had the Pats DOWN BY 10 in the 4th, and the steelers? They lost top the Jets, need I say more?

Well, it'll be good for certain, but I expect the Packers to win through pressure on Romo and a great game from Favre.

And now for the game of the week, Eagles @ Patriots. Did anyone expect the Eagles to be WINNING in the 4th? If nothing else, this game revealed the Pat's inability to stop in routes, and shows what happens when you shut down Randy Moss and put pressure on Brady. The Eagles should have won, and lord knows they could have, had the just stuck to the patterns that worked for them for the whole game and ran the ball to eat clock. At worst they'd have made a field goal to tie.

for me, it was that they beat the Cardinals giving the hawks a healthy lead in their division.

I'm rooting for Seattle Vs Green Bay this year, and the referees will not be either teams 12th man!

BN:

The Dolphins are PWNING the Steelers as we speak. And their pot head runner is back in the game after being out for 1.5 years

As for the Browns... THROW IN BRADY QUINN!!!

well, it'd be a fun game to watch. certainly not a match-up that happens often.

Yes sir, and fate it seems is on the Seahawks side occasionally. That or what I call "Angels in the red-zone" (Seattle Dallas game in 06 or yesterdays game against the Rams).

EDIT: WHAT A FRIGGIN DOLPHINS STEELERS GAME! There has not been a scoreless game like that since the 1940's!!!! If they would have gone to overtime they would have broken the record! To bad the Dolphins did not win, they were really fighting.

Good pairs do not a good team make.

Well, the Steelers do look like shit of late, but they're one of the few teams with the formula to beat the Pats.

The Colts ain't shit.

Yes, because pressuring Romo has worked so well for other teams for far...oh wait

I agree Favre's experience gives 'em an edge, but Romo has a better receiving squad and RBs. That means it's down to the Pack D.

It took longer than I expected for a Pats-hater to show up.

Now, I hate the Pats myself, but you're just being unrealistic. There's no magic "formula" to beat the Pats. What happened with the Eagles is that the Pats turned out to be human, and arrogance caught up to the team no matter how much Bellichick wanted to prevent it. They got lazy enough to almost lose to a bad team. If this were any other team than the Pats, all sports analysts would be saying "this kind of game was exactly what they needed to be shaken up" and "they'll be better for it." But it's the Pats, so everyone is gloating over the near-loss.

They still won on toughness, just like with the Colts, and the Eagles do not show a blueprint for how to beat the Pats, because none of these flaws are particularly exploitable. Most teams do not have the weapons to get past the Pats O-line to pressure Brady. The last teams that took away Moss just saw one of the Pats' other A-class receivers burn the field (Welker, in this case) and, more obviously, the Pats not know teams will try this, so everyone else will fail by default.

I'm rooting for Seattle Vs Green Bay

Two NFC teams in the Superbowl? That would be something special, seeing as how it's impossible.

As for the Browns... THROW IN BRADY QUINN!!!

Haven't heard that one in a while. Brady Quinn is pure trade-bait now, watch him side-saddly to the Falcons for a second round pick (lol).

Son of a! I tend to forget they are not AFC anymore

Heh. It's also highly unlikely. I love the Hawks, they're my team, but have you seen them play lately? They haven't really improved much since last year, though they're better working Hasselbeck out of the shotgun. But still, Hasselbeck is a good QB, but he's shaky. He doesn't work well without strong support from the tailback position and that's missing now, with fullback Mack Strong retired and halfback Shaun Alexander hurt and sucking rather badly.

With the way the Steelers are looking, it's either Colts or Pats vs either Pack or Cowboys. Pats vs Pack would make a lovely Superbowl, but whatever the lineup AFC is always the favourite (which sucks, if you ask me, Superbowls are no fun when they're just the tail of the AFC championship game)

I'd love to see either the Jags or Bucs come-from-behind and go far in the play-offs. Both teams are hard-nosed, efficient, classic football teams.

Bucs-Cowboys would be hilarious. Just wait and see if Garcia asks to play cornerback so he can tackle TO a few times

they have at least 3 incredible receivers right now with Driver, Jennings and Freeman who are not afraid to catch the goddamn ball.

Hold on there. The Pack receiving team is solid, but far, far away from "incredible". Favre is making them look really good with thanks to his O-Line, but while they are "good", they're not "really good". Donald Driver is an intelligent route-runner, but not exactly a playmaker. Jennings and James Jones both are, but while Jennings is showing a lot of growth he's not there yet, and James "Double-Fumble" Jones definitely isn't...

And...uh...Freeman?

Christ BN... I can't believe American football is that much of an interest for you especially being in the Netherlands! It's refreshing really.

well, i completely disagree with this. i'd say he's absolutely a playmaker. have you followed his career at all? he just came back a few games ago and shook the rust off pretty quickly if you ask me. watch some of the highlights on the packers site, and tell me he's not a playmaker again.

Ok, "he's not a playmaker". Not at his age, at least :P

Look, I got nothing but love for my man D, but his longest catch of the season stands at 39 yards, and he's averaging 13.2 ypc, versus Jenning's 16.0. He also has only 2 TDs.

He's a route-runner, he's the guy that moves the chains. He's absolutely vital to the team, but he's not a playmaker.

and what the hell's wrong with Freeman?

The fact that he's not on Green Bay's active roster and de facto retired?

What can I say. I started playing fantasy football 2 years ago and that got me into the game. I find it surprisingly easy to understand with my lack of history (currently picking at 116 - 60, still better than the average expert).

I love this sport, it's amongst my favourites, together with rugby, "soccer" and some other collected sports. It's easy to leave room for sports to like when you hate as many as I do (I loathe tennis, any type of racing (especially bicycle) and pretty much every Olympic sport)
