NMA was hacked

There will always be guys like this around, I dont mind that people hack a site. But starting to delete threads, banning moderator and taking a full backup of the database just shows his true colors.

People might want to change their passwords, because if he actually did take a backup then he can get anyones password out sadly.

Im working on fixing the security holes and changing passwords for the site now.
 
Thanks for the quick help Odin - I was a bit concerned when people told me that this message appeared here but I couldn't see any info about it. ;D

I changed my password on all sites where I use the same or a similar already.
 
I hope there aren't too many people who use the same password here as anywhere important. If the recent spate of hacking left and right taught us anything, it's that you can't live without unique passwords anymore.

That's because only a pathetic loser with no friends and too much time on his hands would bother, especially with old code. As it has been pointed out, users changing passwords here might not be productive until the hole is patched. However, if anyone uses similar usernames and/or passwords elsewhere would be well advised to change them. This jerk has our email addresses, as well as usernames and passwords. Be especially sure that you change these things on any sites where any financial transactions can take place, like Steam.

On a more serious note though. The idiot obviously didn't cover his tracks well and I encourage the staff at NMA to seek out the help of the computer crimes department at their "local?" law enforcement agency because when he obtained that information it made him at least somewhat dangerous. As a network administrator for a medium sized company I am often amazed at people who use the same passwords for their banking information as they would anything else.
 
Im just glad my password was aaaaancient, anyhoo Im sure my host will have a field day with this.
 
What I still don't understand is why he would backup the database on his computer and THEN tell everyone that he's a good guy and doesn't want to harm people or anything?

Seriously, what the fuck?

Also, I think it might be worth noting that at the time this was happening there were around 130 guests on the forum (and still are by the looks of it). Is this normal? I don't check the bottom of the page that often.

Great suggestion. :clap: I was thinking of more serious things like paypal and banking sites. Never even crossed my mind people using steam might have had the same password here as there.
 
My password is so secure I don't even know what it is so I'm not too worried.

You've already helped quite extensively I believe.

Might take you up on that depending on if Odin has time. We happened to just be working on large-ish updates when this happened. So it goes.

The hacker obviously wants attention so lets not give him more than he already has received mmkay?
 
Wouldnt mind some help on the technical side, as I havent really touched this site in ages. Was in the process of planning an upgrade for this site these last few weeks, untill this happened.

Another thing we really need is someone who can do templates/gfx for the site as well, which is really what we are lacking to finish off our new site.
 
Well, the site will look very similar to the forum basicly. So its more seemless, Wooz is onboard with gfx but he doesnt know about templates and such as far as I know.
