On the Fallout 3 Main Story

Fallout came out in 1997, so is fallout's storyline stale?

Not stale, but not totally original in its own right either.

And Tolken is a reverse fetch quest and a get missing king X to his throne storyline, wow LOTRs must be a really shitty book if the plot is so generic.

Tolkien's appeal came in his ability to create believable worlds and characters that we cared about.

Morrowind game out in 2002, God of War in 2005. You start as a tool by a crumbing empire to exploit the beliefs of the people of morrowind by going there and saying 'hey I'm jesus,' and as it turns out you're right. It was an awsome game, with a detailed and huge world filled with tonns of books you can read and lots to do, it was awsome. Everyone who played that game remembers the 'pillow lady' or the man who fell from the sky. We should be so lucky that FO3 is that good.

Perhaps you should do some more reading here in the forum before flapping your gums. I loved Morrowind. It's one of my top 5 all time games. However, I knew that I'd be the Nevarrine (sp?) about 15 mins into it.

Great game, average story.

You've obviously played the first 30 minutes of Oblivion, the story goes much deeper then that.

I've played, and finished Oblivion (unfortunately).

Lame story still.

You know according to metacritic the average rating of both users and game magazines for morrowind and oblivion are right up there with all those games you've listed. Get over it.

Just because something is popular, doesn't meant its good. Look at Justin Timberlake, or Avril Lavinge.

Eh.

Stories were never the point of Fallout. Fallout lets you tell your own story, it is not trying to tell you a great story. That's exactly what sets it apart from other RPGs.

That's why I'm not too worried about Fallout 3's plot. I'm more worried about how intrusive and linear it will be.

Good point.

And Tolkien did go to some pretty crazy lengths too, like making up a whole new language.

But wasn't Tolkien's appeal because he was one of (if not the) first fantasy authors?

I'm really looking forwards to FO3, and yet I never really liked Oblivion myself. Never beat it, always got real bored and stopped playing.

But then, I only finally beat FO2 this year after playing the game to the near end more than a dozen times over the years.

To bring this topic back around. The story is not to go find your dad because you miss him. The story is to find out why your dad left. With the first post here it might well be that the reason vault 101 people can not leave and have specific skills such as genetics, is that vault 101 is there for whatever the Enclave need. Or maybe your dad knows this and is trying to go out and be a hero and not let the Enclave just keep people afraid to go out. Anyway long story short, the quest is go "find out why your dad left", not "go find dad"
