Online distributor GOG announced

Ah, deep inside i knew it sounded too good... :(

Adam Oldakowski:
AO: We don’t have access to the games’ source code, so we can’t really re-code them.
Tom Ohle, in the comments:
ANy previous mentions of source-code access were merely my misunderstanding — I try to be as technically minded as I can be, but ultimate the difference between access to “masters” and “source code” eluded me until yesterday.

Well, it's still great they do this, just not as great I thought it would be.

Don't know how good these prices are, especially for Fallout. I bought here a re-release in DVD case for about $4. Still, other games are not so easy to find and I'll probably buy the Fallouts (and maybe others) anyway from their site just for support.

Edit: And you Bethesda, you won't be getting any of my money... "Nininininininini"

Way to prick my balloon there Ausir.
Seems a bit odd though, they're European themselves. They should know firsthand how much that shit sucks.

I can imagine there'd be some trouble with games that were censored for release here (like the Fallouts), but other than that I don't see what the problem is.
Probably just the publishers screwing us over as usual.

Well, I imagine they will expand to other markets too, but they'd have to license each title separately for every country.

They do? AFAIR, there is no need for licensing it for each and every country if the deal doesn't mention it.

They only have the license to sell the games online in North America. If it works out there, they might expand the service.

it's kinda sad, since i'm betting my ass that europe would yield a bigger market for retro games than northern america.

though it's easier to reach the american fans, since their media are far less splintered than on the european market.

According to an interview with Michal Kicinski of CD Projekt, contrary to early information, GOG will not be limited to North America - you'll be able to buy games there regardless of where in the world you live, as long as you have a credit card.

Sweet!
Available from launch right?

Do you know what caused the mix-up?

Well, what caused the mix up is that they're focusing on North America as their target market, but it doesn't mean that people from other countries can't use the service.

Hope it's not NA only, will definately buy some games, never got around to playing MDK definately want to try it. Another game I vaguely remember playing was called "Another World", hope they'll have that as well.

I never got to play System Shock, so I'm quite excited about that. I think that it's a good service, and hope that their library keeps on growing.

They can't just do that, they have to take both local law on digital distribution/rights management and rights of local publishers into account.

Fallout 1/2 have had recent reissues in some countries. GOG can't just roll over those publishers' rights.

Can't go wrong with the old Shiny games.

Earthworm Jim/2, MDK, Wild 9, Sacrifice are pure gold.

Well, but that is their official statement - the primary market is NA, but you'll be able to buy the games from anywhere in the world as long as you have a credit card. Probably formally they'll be selling it in the US, regardless of where you download it to.

And these publishers might not have the license to digital distribution at all, only physical distribution.

I wonder why I never signed up for the press beta.

Regardless, I signed up for the beta quite a bit ago. Are they sending out keys now? Haven't got one yet.

I know for sure I put my email in there back when this news bit was first posted. I haven't gotten my key yet either... I hope they didn't lose it. ><

It does say that they're sending out the keys in stages though, so not everyone may get it Monday (today).

its up and running, thanks for the reminder! with your 1st purchase you get one interplay game free, so choose carefully
