OOC Chapter 3 Lone Wanderers

I'm trying to figure a good character that Syphon could get along with, and I think Gabe could be that person. They both kinda have that personality, I cant explain it but they're similar.

Well, they are both loners and tough combat specialists, but in different fields - a sniper and a close-combat master. Both are independent but still want to help others when possible.

There is a shared mindset, I suppose. However with a strong difference in personality, there is the attraction of opposites - Gabriel is quiet and watchful, Syphon is more verbose and amusing.

I personally am quiet and watchful but I have many loud and funny friends - we compliment eachother, as Gabriel and Syphon would do as a pair.

Gabriel is not given to 'making friends' however he would probably not be opposed to Syphon's company (unless he wanted to be alone).

With the rescue attempt, agree that a stealthy way is better, however I hoped that by taking on three Trogs - a difficult, but manageable problem - would allow Grim to escape more easily. I feared that it would sound a bit funny if I wrote 'quick down the pipe to the next manhole and we can exit there, free of Trogs - it made it sound too easy if you get my drift.

Oh well. I hope people don't think I'm a gung ho combat nut, because I am not - I just thought that this situation was one of those where difficult combat was more realistic than a sneaky action. I know I created an assassin character but I still respect the power of brute force.

Ne'er mind. Our intrepid band will have to find some alternate means of helping Grim.

However, one question still in my mind, is where can we go? Where can our stealth mssion take us? We are in an isolated ghost-town in the middle of Nowhere.

The only thing I can think of is that we hide in the sewers until the Trogs go away, which may take a long time.

I think a fight with three Trogs might have been fine. But you have to figure that the dimensions of the tunnel would allow only one man to climb up through the manhole at a time. Also because he needs one hand to grip the ladder, his balance and aim would be very bad and his movements would be clumsy.

So stealthy searching for an alternative is the best option.

I think that's what you will have to deal with. The Trogs are used to hunting rats, and the rats tend to hide out in the sewars, so there's a good chance they know the exit points too. But they are also searching the houses, burying their dead and hunting for food.

In the meantime you will probably have to crawl through the sewars (remember these are very tight) and find exits, sneak out and back in, and eventually find a way out.

I think Grim will probably be trying to sneak from building to building.

...

What happened here? I was expecting an entire page to catch up with by now, and there were about three posts. Hello people?? ANyone?

I'm not posting because I'm waiting for the encounter to be over, I can't just run off in the middle of the encounter leaving everyone behind, so if anyone would like to come after the encounter have your character bump into Virgil and Pip. Meh...

The last week has been slow on these boards, everyone seems to be either in vacation or taking a break. Don`t worry, things will be more lively soon.

Thanks, actually I think I will move the story with Pip and Virgil a bit.

At this point the caravan story has split, temporarily, into two subplots. The continuing problem with the Trogs will eventually end and that group will eventually catch up.

But for now, feel free to take the Plague story where you want. Sander, you have a good idea on how that will develop. Run with it. The others will follow where you lead.

Hi, everyone. I'm really sorry. This week was results week and I got very, very distracted. What with my parents talking to me, my friends wanting to get drunk and put off the inevitable, I'm surprised I had time to get on the internet at all - unfortunately every time I tried to access the site I couldn't. My connection has been screwy recently and I have been so busy, I haven't got it sorted.

This is the first time I've been on here in almost a week, so I haven't read the posts yet, so I need to play catch up, but then I will post. I'm very sorry about the delay and also because there was no way to warn you once I couldn't access the site.

Anyway, I will get on with reading up and then hopefully post something.

P.S. About some of my dodgy posts before the gap in posting, all I can say is that my imagination was fried just like every other part of my brain. The town near my village was the hottest place in Britain last week - the heat wave was stifling and it made concentrating and thinking of clever plans difficult - so, I'm sorry about dumb ideas like climbing up out of a surrounded manhole to rescue Grim.

Glad to be back though.

Syphon is in the crematorium, watching Gabriel tear ass back toward him. The plan is that Syphon will shoot any Trogs that get near Gabriel.

OK, so how many people on the caravan should die of the Black Plague?

I was thinking maybe 2/3 to 1/2.

Do you mean half or two thirds? That sounds a bit excessive but considering it is the black plague, it is perfectly viable and realistic.

I'm torn. Half is bad but no terrible, three quarters would be seriously bad, so I think two thirds is a good balance. It is very bad, but it doesn't make the caravan a total loss - we need people to keep the caravan limping along.

So I say go with 2/3.

Well much of that depends on what Gunslinger needs. We also have a few more encounters on the road, so that will matter as well.

Not everyone has been bitten by plague fleas. Remember it was mostly the crew that got caught in the battle with the moonfrogs and prairie dogs that were also exposed to the fleas. While those fleas probably jumped around a bit and might have been carried (ie-intimate contact- Blade to Buffy or Nat to her clients = Reed) or just because they are in the proximity of those with plague fleas. However, even if a lot of the people are not going to get bubonic plague- those who didn't are likely to get pneumonic plague once it goes airborne. Pneumonic is much more dangerous than bubonic.

Smar and Sander, a few of your people will probably die along the way to the University. One or two fellows should discover they have gone bubonic. Later in the day someone will get pneumonic and cough it up. Then it will spread really fast.

You can expect something similar from the caravan.

Those with little likelihood of exposure-
Gruug- Mutants are creatures of FEV and they are immune.
Virgil- ditto with Mutants.
Ibis and Grim- their mixed natures should also give them immunity.
Pip- Sander, this is your fellow. Either Pip is pip because of the FEV or natural processes. If its FEV, then he's probably ok.
Gabriel- maybe- if he's been subject to medical enhancement due to Slayers.
Rogue, Nat and Jim- both received antibotic shots early or just before getting bit by plague fleas.

Those without- Buffy (where are you?) Syphon, Hook and most of the caravan.

Gentleman, I'm back. Just in case you've thought I've gone AWOL.

If most of you haven't realized, I'm horrendously, horribly, addicted to airsoft. I went fighting the good fight with a few of my buddies last weekend. At the same time, there was a LAN party. Unfortunately, while lugging my tower to the party, my computer went FUBAR'ed. Took me a week (I kid you not) to find out what was wrong. Turns out, the CPU was loose. Duh. I admit, I am quite daft.

Anyway, I'll type my fingers off getting Jeeva's and Caleb's story up to speed. Things are getting hectic around here, fellows. I'm up to my neck in summer homework with one week left of summer (I'm not only daft, but I'm a procrastinator! Zounds!). Plus, I'm about to take my test for my driver's permit.

Don't worry about me, I'll manage.

Good luck with your driving test. They can be hell but the important thing is to remain calm and drive like you don't care. Follow the rules but try to imagine the examiner isn't there.

I'm a damn good driver, my instructor told me I'm one of hte best young drivers he's seen, but I've failed twice. I know that doesn't sound encouraging, but the point is that i failed because I let the pressure get to me. I was too nervous.

Remain calm and you'll be fine.
