Opening music

Marat Sar

First time out of the vault
The track for f1 is one of my most beloved tracks of all time. armstrongs "A Kiss Before You Leave ME" was nice as well. Which makes me think about the third.

The opening track is indeed a significatnt part of the sad, cunicism that gives Fallout its epic feel.

My suggestion (rather obvious, so I think other have given it thought before) is "Somewhere Over the Rainbow". Not only is it so brilliantlu fitting, it`s also a very nice piece of music. It has a hidden sadness to it, and I believe would forword the whole package pretty well. given of coulrse, the rocording is old and bleechy-sounding.

Your suggenstions! I do believe some of you have listened to the music of the era more than I have and are aware of some hiden pearls.

Good suggestion.
That's exactly how "Dr. Phibes Rises Again" ends. Gave me the shivers alright.

Maybe something by Lead Belly?

Yeah, my guess is it woud sound rather chilling if played through a low-fi radio, with a worn out feeling and echoed over a vast surface in a 3D room echo program, a vast surface like a... wasteland perhaps.

"Somewhere over the rainbow
where the sun shines a`bright..."

What the hell? Last I checked the song's title was taken from the refrain, which was "A kiss to build a dream on".

I'm all for the Judy Garland version. She's so darn cute in the Wizard of Oz.

[When all the world is a hopeless jumble
And the raindrops tumble all around
Heaven opens a magic lane
When all the clouds darken up the skyway
There's a rainbow highway to be found
Leading from your window pane
To a place behind the sun
Just a step beyond the rain]

Somewhere over the rainbow way up high
There's a land that I've heard of once in a lullaby
Somewhere over the rainbow skies are blue
And the dreams that you dare to dream
Really do come true

Some day I'll wish upon a star
And wake up where the clouds are far behind me
Where troubles melt like lemon drops
Away above the chimney tops
That's where you'll find me

Somewhere over the rainbow blue birds fly
Birds fly over the rainbow
Why then, oh why can't I?
If happy little bluebirds fly beyond the rainbow
Why oh why can't I?

I think the first stanza is usually omitted.

Somewhere over a rainbow would be perfect if done faintly, would certianly send chills down my spine!

I would suggest "We'll meet again"! I only know Johnny Cash's Version from "The Man comes around" but i guess there's an older version from the 50s, because the song sounds very 50s like.
Fits very good to the Fallout atmosphere, i think.
Here are the lyrics:

"We'll meet again
Don't know where
Don't know when
But I know we'll meet again some sunny day

Keep smilin' through
Just like you always do
Till the blue skies drive the dark clouds far away

So will you please say hello
To the folks that I know
Tell them I won't be long
They'll be happy to know
That as you saw me go
I was singing this song
[...]"

I think the music should really depend on the final game they come up with. If it's some sort of badass "Eat lead, bastards!" game then a rock song (not heavy metal) might fit more. Yes though, Somewhere Over the Rainbow would fit well I think.

If they somehow use the Mickey Mouse Club theme song, someone is being shot. Now, an encounter with someone singing that would be cool... But not as the main song.

over the rainbow, while it does have that sadness to it, is also a song of hope, so i thik it would fit in very well with the fallout universe.

while i havnt heard "We'll meet again" the lyrics also seem good, anyone know where i can listen to it?

The Judy Garland one sounds best so far, it's 'retro', and has a positive light with negative connotations, and it's something that opposes the post-apocalypse but relates to it as well, just like Maybe and A Kiss to... etc.

IIRC "We'll meet again" was the theme song of Dr Strangelove, so that's a no.

We'll meet again is good, but I still say they should use the "Don't want to set the world on fire".. especially if they're aiming for a Fallout 0 game.. that would just fit like a glove (spot the movie!!)

Fallout 0? Did I miss something?

A prequel? Damn I hope not, prequels are way too overdone.
