PC Gamer US Lays Hands on Fallout 3, and Shacknews too

Actually, if you took the time to read the article, the author notes the family of "vampires" are actually "wannabes".

And I wrote that the people who are pale and nocturnal and leave their victims with bitemarks on their necks, dried of blood, are "a little bit like vampires". But maybe you're right and there's no connection to draw there.

Heh.

Dude, read the preview, he totally explained what happened in the course of the entire quest.

It has some retarded ending - the "vampires" trade protection for donations of blood packets every now and then from the town they were threatening. It's really stupid, but at least they aren't real vampires.

Remember the ad with Mr. Handy at the outset of Fallout that said "He'll walk your dog!"

Yes, I do remember that. It was also, as far as I know, a pre-war ad, and not a single robot was used in this fashion in-game, except maybe by Dorothy, the mechanic in NCR, with her robobrain Toto. Then again, the NCR was in way better shape than the towns in FO3 appear to be.

Especially saying that they ripped off I Am Legend

I'm not saying they did, since it sounds more like crazy people than actual vampires/infected/whatever, hence the "perhaps". But I do recall seeing it cited as one of their inspirations when talking about PA, though I might be wrong here.

EDIT: @ Ausir - yeah, it was. Sorry about the ninja edit there, I had just remembered it.

Wasn't Toto a robobrain?

would have been fine if i am legend wasnt a big movie last year - otherwise ... pretty lazy

Well, they could've come up with it as a homage to the I Am Legend novel before the 2007 movie went into production.

Yes Toto was a robobrain.

I'm saying that just because you never encountered a Mr. Handy being used for its original function in Fallout 1 or 2 doesn't mean that it's not entirely within the series' lore to have one as a butler.

If it's some other robot then fine go ahead, but a Mr. Handy would make sense in this case.

Also this Shacknews guy totally made the distinction between VATS and TBS. No sarcasm.

I'm perfectly calm, Dude.

Calmer than you are.

The words may as well have been coming directly from Bethesda.
This is hilarious.

Not really. It is very typical of hands-on previews. Rockstar is known to be breathing down your neck for all hands-on previews of GTA IV.

Look at it this way, Bethesda tossed 20-30 million at this game. So who are you, pitiful journalist, to come out and say it's no good. This is a wall all gaming journalists face. Either you're dealing with an indie game and looking at someone's personal gem and you have to tell him it stucks, or you're looking at a major corporation and you have to tell them all that money was for nothing, which goes against your capitalist grain.

Most journalists cave to it, regardless of the game's quality.

No, no. I understand it completely. I just literally imagined Bethesda employees saying that to the previewer as he began playing the game.

Yes, it's weird, but it was funny.

As far as I recall, the only Mr. Handy's ever appearing in the original games was in F2 near Arroyo, and in the New Reno gun running encounter with the Enclave.

Seems a little out of place that you get one for your personal barber......

Or perhaps it's not a Mr. Handy. But still, you'd think a robot such as that would be damn valuable in the wastes.

Also, The Big Lebowski.

You imagined Todd Howard saying that?

I wouldn't be very impressed, if Howard was standing behind me and said "so much as breathe wrong and I'll fucking end you"

In fact, I'd giggle.

Also Mariposa in FO1, IIRC. And it was Klamath, not Arroyo.

True, true. Haven't played the 2nd one in a bit. Yeh, there's a Mr. Handy with the lieutenant.

Okay, at this moment is my 'thinking positive' moment:
We got new infos! Wooohooo.

So i can't wait for what's coming up next.

Haha. I'd instantly think, "Wow. Haven't heard too many 7 year olds say 'fucking' so far."

Mission to avoid spoilers: ruined. :(

I could have written something like, "At this point a very few of you might be thinking of those creatures we call vampires, but don't worry; they are not actually supernatural! They only look and act the part." My regrets in this regard are, as it turns out, negligible. Phew!

I personally think the robo-butler makes sense as a town is likely going to provide incentive for preventing its total annihilation, and giving their savior something of value would be a good way to do that. And giving a house with servants is a way to make the savior have a continued interest in the towns well being, so it makes sense.
