Guess I would have to say the universe from the space sim I-WAR2 - Edge of Chaos. It's basically humanity living on the edge of known space, light years from Earth trying to scrape a living from a few barren rocks. Most of the population live on cobbled together space stations, whilst a couple of megacorporations try and screw everyone. There's space piracy, junk yards and all sorts of good stuff. Interstellar storms (or something) broke communication and trade links with Earth leading to a rapid decline, guess that counts as an apocalypse of sorts.
Also quite fond of the alternative Aliens history as per the DarkHorse comics. Earth gets over run, and humanity flees to outer colonies/space stations where mad generals generally seize control, and all manner of madness occurs in the name of freeing earth. Terminator, BladeRunner, Equilibrium, Mad Max, Jeremiah, Land of the Dead, Waterworld (shit film, good setting) all deserve a mention too.
But if I had to live in one, I guess it would be I-War, or Bladerunner - dying horribly doesnt really appeal to me
