Pistol use

The Sequoia's 45-70 is also a pretty big round, far bigger than what is practical for a pistol (well, in our world. I guess in a place with Deathclaw, Cazadores, Power Armor, Muties and super-humans like Lanius it suddendly gets much more important). The 12.7 SMG however, I didn't think that was in any possible with such a massive round, 12.7 is pretty much a .50 cal, no?

Also, in my list I completely forgot the .45 pistol (the modded normal one, with the silencer et all, Graham's pistol is too short and unmanly :P), it looks really nice and packs quite a punch.

Err... the Sequoia is basically a BFR chambered for 45-70 rounds. A gun which is used in real life. Mainly for bear hunting.

It would be possible to have a 12.7mm SMG, but the recoil would be insane. They really should fix the 12.7mm pistol and SMG. Both should have a lot more recoil, but both should also do a bit more damage.

There is nothing to fix, because there is nothing broken. Both weapons have their appropriate place between the weapon tiers.

The problem with the 12.7mm ammo is that it doesn't look like it would fit in both the Pistol and SMG, never mind the survivalists rifle. It's like Fallout 3 with it's .32ACP that swaps between worst ever pistol and fuckin' ballin' ass hunting rifle.

I should have clarified, it's not practical to just carry around with you unless you are specifically hunting bears or the like at relatively close-medium ranges. While in the Fallout world, with Dearthclaws and assorted nastiness running around everywhere, it's a safe bet that you could have to use it anytime.

That's a secondary concern, the FO3 hunting rifle didn't even have sights to begin with ffs. And Muties, with those huge hands of theirs, were able to fire it accurately from the hip. But, well, Fallout 3.

Also, is Euclid's C-finder considered a pistol? Because once you mod it do actually do damage (in vanilla it's 150 damage, barely enough to kill a notmal human enemy, I mean is it an orbital super-weapon or not?), it's awesome.[/quote]

Ahh. I understand. But what do you mean "practical to carry arounds with you"? I mean, there's not that much need to carry around a gun in modern society, and if you were in a violent place on earth where openly carrying firearms was accepted, a BFR would actually be a pretty practical gun, considering the fact that whatever threat you come across wouldn't be a threat anymore if you landed a shot with that thing. Of course, if you're trying to conceal your weapon it's not a very good choice.

and it's not an actual handgun. unless you are giant. and then almost any rifle could be a handgun for you.

I think we're all forgetting the alien pistol, possibly one of the best weapons in the game. That thing literally gets a critical every shot. I took out the legendary deathclaw with three hits from the thing and an energy weapons skill of 30.

I only use it when I have already beaten the game and I am just fooling around, that thign is basicaly a cheat code.

Not as much of a cheat code as the holorifle, but the holorifle degrades faster and you have to go through a hell of a lot more to get it so I guess the alien pistol is cheat-ier.

I don't understand why people think the Alien Blaster is so overpowered. Sure, it's very powerful out of the box since it crits every time. Sure, it deals a healthy 131 DAM per shot, but the Brush Gun with special ammo deals...120 DAM per shot without the critical (add 75) and negating 6 points of DT. And if the enemy is unarmored you can use Hollow Point ammo for an outstanding 175 DAM per shot. What I'm missing here?

There's plenty of reasons to carry a gun in modern society. Over here it ultimately boils down to 'because we can and I'd rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

Besides, people in one of the states that allows non-permit concealed carry, alaska, people have a genuine need for something like a BFR or something else in the "Fuck bears" category of calibers. Bears.

The Brush gun has a SKill requirement of 100 and 6 st is a rifle and you have to get the ammo for it, o nthe other side the Alien Blaster crtis all the time, has a skill req of 75, no ST requirement you get more shots for free with it than you would ever need it's free, also the Brush gun decays a lot faster than the Alien Blaster. Thats why I think using the Alien Blaster is cheating.

272 shots (with Scrounger and a lot of luck) isn't what I'd call a great amount, weapon condition is hardly a problem, 100% crit rate isn't a big deal if the other weapon deals almost the same damage normally and if you want to use the Alien Blaster to its fullest you'll raise the skill at 100 anyway. Other than having no need for perks to show its full power and being a one-handed weapon I don't see the great difference that makes it a cheat.

yeah but hunting is a rather exceptional scenario like for critical self defence (taking down bears ?).

From a practical sense actually much lighter amunition with moderate stopping power proved to be successful regarding humans. 9mm or 45. rounds are actually quite well suited already when dealing with unprotected human targets.

That thing is just for show, no human being can use that.

Since when are Super mutants "human beings" ?
