Company strategies vary in this field from case to case. If somebody simply creates a mod for the existing Fallout games, that doesn't sound like a huge threat to Bethesda and their IP.Brother None said:Whuh? Why did you even ask?
Also, last time I checked, they don't really have any business forbidding that as long as your project is non-profit.
Now if we talk about a project that actually creates a modern Fallout game on a next generation 3d engine superior to the one featured in Fallout 3 and reuses content that has been aquired by Bethesda AFAIR, this sounds more like a valid threat to their IP to me.
There are usually two kinds of strategies of game companies when you ask for permission to use their IP:
1. They don't reply at all.
2. They so no.
It's rather simple to explain: companies have to defend their IP, if they allow one project to use it, why can't other free of charge projects use it as well?
