Predictions for 2008: Fallout 3 to be delayed

Why would they delay this? Isn't it essentially just an expansion for Oblivion? The graphics engine already works - they are just adding a few new shaders. The 3D modelers and texture artists are already experienced in the workflow. The AI, dialogue, and gameplay are just a couple of iterations beyond what was in Oblivion.
No matter how different or similar the gameplay is to Oblivion, in a lot of ways we could think of this as a very high budget expansion to Oblivion, just with a very different art style and different weapons. Seriously, if Bethesda just got the best Oblivion modders together and paid them a salary for 3 years, why couldn't they get a product out the door in time for Christmas?
Even if it is buggy upon release, they could just claim this is to make it true to the original Fallout.

Delayed games don't make good games, it's just that the PR folks are setting unrealistic deadlines for their coders to try and meet and they eventually have to eat crow and say 'Look, we just need a few more months, a year tops, and then the game will be released, just hang on guys!'
It's all a marketing ploy really, get people hyped about it, then dangle the carrot in front of their noses for a bit longer and pull it away, leaving you with little more than the scent of the now removed carrot.

i think most of the people in here saying "it's gonna suck anyway so who cares" are just jumping on the hate bandwagon and will buy this game anyway.
i don't care if they delay it or not, but if they end up pushing it back, it'll probably be for the best anyway. rather 'em not rush the game.

Yeah, because everyone around here is a mindless dolt who has nothing better to spend his/her hard-earned cash on than some game that happens to have the Fallout logo slapped on it, regardless of whether or not it's worth a steamin' pile.

The main difference (in terms of quality from a bugginess perspective) between Fallout and Oblivion is that Fallout was fun to play right out of the box. Even with all of the Fallout mods, how many of them change the basic combat and gameplay mechanics? I would say few to none.ronin84 said:
For Oblivion, the arrow shooting, the wildlife behavior, the stealth gameplay (or lack thereof), the autoleveling, and a bunch of other things were changed by modders just to make the game enjoyable for the Bethesda fans that can still think critically. These additions weren't just extras to flesh out the game or to complete a few broken quests. These were to make the basic gameplay mechanic more fun.
