Rage E3 2008 trailer

Hope my PC will run it good. Looks freaking amazing. I just love the trend in the gaming industry of making PA games.

It's too bad that id hasn't release a half-way decent game in over a decade.

Carmack makes good engines, but terrible games.

The guy believes in simple gameplay = fun.

That's why Quake 3 is still a favorite multiplayer game till now. You don't need to rely on numerous keys like most of the fps game today (melee, grenade, lean right/left, prone....you name it), just the WASD, space bar and a mouse.

I've got to say that this game climbed in my wishlist pretty fast after the fallout 3 debacle. Can't wait for more informations and ingame sequences.

I'm totally looking foward to it, gloss and all. This is the new idtech engine right?
That and borderlands are two PA games that look somewhat promising.

*sigh* Aggresive supermutants.

# Two player online co-op is confirmed for consoles and PC. Console players will also have the option of split-screen co-op.
# Co-op will be an entirely separate mode that will not include the story elements of the single player campaign.
# Hooper mentioned "armor" and "inventory" systems, and indicated that there will be some type of world economy that the player can participate in.
# The shooter gameplay will play out in the tradition of id FPS titles.
# Vehicles are being used as an "extension of the player," allowing users to drive to instances, or race on tracks that are found in each town.
# Racers will have two seats for co-op riding, with one player manning a gun.
# Vehicles can run over monsters, but the gore will be limited, as id is shooting for a Teen rating to broaden its audience. WHAT?
# Training missions played at racetracks will teach players new vehicle skills.
# Though the world will be large, it is not a sandbox title or traditional "open world" game--players will need to complete the game's story quests in a linear fashion.
# Instances, encounters and items will be crafted, not procedurally generated as in a game like Diablo.
# The game is targeted for release sometime within the next two years--likely in the final half of 2009.

Bah a T-only game. What happen to the M?

T sells better.

Kind of weird to have horror-elements in a T-rated game.

Also, I like how id ripped off Wooz' desert dweller design :P

That said, boring trailer. Shiny, tho'. But boy, unappealing.

The racing part reminds me of the Star Wars pod racing games.

Carmack is cool, didn't he design some high-tech rocket fuel a couple of years ago?

Agree. ID, actually, sucks. It died for me after Quake 2

He definitely needs a good game designer.... I mean id software.

It looks really cool, but is it about driving? Like wander the wastes to find upgrades to your car?

Looks like crap. Plus: it's linear. People who spend their money on stuff like this will not go to Heaven.

Yeah, right. Tusken Raiders have been around since what? The seventies or something?

Most people bashed Doom 3's gameplay, and I agree that it was too slow, too linear, and too much of having monsters pop out of secret closets. I have heard that Quake Wars was actually quite good though underrated. I hope that this game has a mildly tactical FPS bend to it - like Far Cry or Half-Life 2.

In comparison to Fallout 3, it's nice to see Rage looking sharp while still including appropriate dust haze. Most of the environments look interesting and alive (even when most of it is dead). Id also seems to have finally gotten past that plastic action figure look that seemed to befall most of their character models. As far as the art design for the monsters/NCPs - yeah, they probably could have been more creative with that, but to some extent everything has been done before in some way (breathing apparatus + desert camoflauge = sandpeople).

If you are complaining about the shiny, keep in mind that id actually does optimize their engines - I could imagine id's engine getting twice the framerate when compared to Bethesda's Fallout 3 if they were running with the same level of detail. Typically id games still run on medium range systems at the time of release, although not with all of the bells and whistles. That said, either you are into the realistic action FPS games or you aren't. If you are, and you are on a budget, then you can always buy the game a couple of months after its release and wait until the low-end systems within your price range catch up to the game's system requirements.
