10/10 For awesome.

I'm changing mine every day or so now just for the lulz. Stay tuned friends and haters.

10/10 People should remember each other by their names not their avatars.

6/10.

Avatars are bigger and more noticeable, and there are even times when some users come around with "similar names" so identifiable avatars are even better for distinguishing users. Same reasons for Signatures; it's not just some space to share your epeen, it's a space to further display how you've personalized your profile. Users who "reset" that constantly are an eyesore and borderline trollish in levels of irritating.

0/10 Please. Irritating? By all means, continue my friend. I'll see myself out.

Can't beat the classic.

On the topic of avatars, I agree with SnapSlav that they are more identifying than the Username, 9/10 times I will see the Avatar only and recognize the user based on that, and depending on how old/active a user is, their avatars can become iconic to their personality/profile. I think it's fairly important to have a distinctive and recognizable persona on an online forum, as lame as that sounds.

Take me for example, I first started with a vaguely Halo themed profile but then quickly realized it wasn't a very popular thing around here, at all. I even had frequent problems of people not knowing what the damn avatar was.

So after traversing through several Bungie-Themed and vaguely Halo related avatars, I jumped ship and have decided to settle on a Dark Souls themed avatar and profile, seeing as it's my favorite game tied with FNV.

I'm not 100% about the profile image, I tried to match it with the forum background, but it's a little rough around the edges (literally).

8/10, which is a really, really high score from me, if that needs clarification. Like you said, it COULD be improved, but not by terribly much. It's nice in how it matches with your sig's quote, so any user who only sees one post from you and never had any other interaction could quickly realize, "Ah, I can safely assume this user likes Dark Souls!" =D

I'm not AGAINST changing Avatars, if that was somehow not clear. I just hate constantly changing them over and over so you don't even realize who you're reading because you make the visual association before the read association, and that was happening these last few weeks. I'd go into a topic having SEEN "TorontRayne" as the last post, and yet once I'd get to it, my mind wouldn't make the connection, because a fresh new Avatar would be staring me in the face. It was jarring and inconvenient, and the more that happened, the more it grew irritating. I went through a period of changing my Avatar several times in quick succession, and the only reason I've stopped is because I gave up, essentially. I was trying to find the "perfect" Avatar, but I settled on this one, because it had a great angle, lighting, and coloring, it featured the character's iconic grin that he's known for, however I wanted a GIF. You'd THINK that a character in the world's most popular anime who's known for his laughter in the face of all odds and has a particularly iconic grin would have AMPLE looping laughter GIFs, wouldn't you? NOPE!!! Well maybe I'm just THAT shitty at looking stuff up (God knows, it's not unlikely... I AM bad at researching) but for weeks on end, none of my pursuits yielded anything to my liking. So to this Avatar I've since stayed.

Point being, if one changes their Avatars repeatedly because they're trying to "find their image", I've got nothing against that. But changing it repeatedly just for shits and giggles?

But back to the above Avatar... the only thing I'd personally think of that might be an improvement was an Artorias-themed image. But like you've said yourself, you went with Oscar because he's so iconic to the series itself, and he sets the events in motion, so anyone would easily be able to recognize him. It works. =)

8/10 for sticking to your av.

I do agree that constantly changing av can lead to identity confusions, for some at least. I do variate mine, but at least keep it mostly within a general category. My avs are mostly always soldiers, or my ugly mug as a soldier when I was in the army and the such.
