Recent movies (last 20 years or so) that you'd consider a classic or a potential future classic?

Aren't there 6 versions of the final cut? And one where Ridley and Ford have a boxing match to decide who's right about Decards being a replicant.

My list bitches

Old Boy (2004)

Mulloholland Drive (2001)

Requiem for a Dream (2000)

Logan (2017)

In fact, I'd say add in most marvel films and the Dark Knight Trilogy.

Star Wars. Anything with that name will be a classic, whether the quality is good or not.

Skyfall

Lord of the Rings

Freddy Prince Junior got Fingered.

Ok here's mine, I got a lot better list of my favorites but they are made in 90s so...

I kinda don't watch movies anymore since this superhero movie craze. I just find it tiresome. Star Wars are ok I guess, yeah movies kinda suck these days imo.
Also I strongly prefer Ju-On over American remake but it was still a decent remake. Scared the shit out of me.

This was actually a pretty big production, the other big war movie of that year together with Saving Private Ryan. Even George Clooney was in it. It's a good movie, manages to combine the action of war with more poetic storytelling. Based on a book by James Jones who was a WW 2 veteran.

Didn't actually know where the name, which comes from the name of the book, comes from. Until I Google it.

Yeah, it's the "biggest" movie on my list. Clooney and some others had a pretty minuscule roles in the end, though. The director was very... artistic in what he wanted on screen. Like, for example Jim Caviezel's "lead" part was more of an accident than intent. That's why I love Malick, he doesn't direct like others.

It seems like Malick filmed a lot more than what was in the official cut, there might actually be a lot more left. Maybe a much longer extended version one day.

Doubtful. Director/extended cuts are usually made when the director is dissatisfied with the theatrical release or because of some production house meddling that changed his vision.
Malick heavily edited The Thin Red Line because nobody said no to him at the time, and the final product is what he wanted, not what someone else asked from him. I doubt he would go back and touch it up anymore.

Actually nowadays "directors" and extended cuts are just versions that have maybe one or two minor differences just so studios have two versions to sell. Sad I know but more often than not this is the case.

I'd want to see the "original" 4-hour version of Bladerunner 2049 and the 3,5-hour version of Silence.

Likewise.

EDIT - Speaking of which, some recent news inform that Villeneuves Dune adaptation is going to be made in two parts. So it'll likely hit the 4-5 hour mark when both are out.

The American Astronaut, U.S. 2001
Musical flick sort of, depressive and mesmerizing in a strange way. Insane scenes one would expect from such a movie where a macho man rips through the space in steampunk locomotive, although that old barn full of fucked up inhabitants floating in vacuum got me by surprise!

I thought this was confirmed from the start?
I do wonder who will play Paul...

I had only heard rumors of that by the posting of that.

There are other rumors about Paul being likely played by Timothée Chalamet from Call Me By Your Name.

Hm, I don't know who that is. Looking at some pics, I guess he looks the part? Not how I imagined the prophet, but that hardly matters.
Have you seen him in that role? Is he a good actor?

No, I haven't seen the movie. I just read the rumor at one of our local movie magazine sites a couple of weeks ago. They say he shone in the part (and gave a high score to the movie), but I wouldn't know.

I think Sheridan's films will all be seen as classics down the road.

I think Sicario 2 is serviceable as is but I would love to see the original screenplay before they made him rewrite the last act of the film.
