Resident Evil 5

The last decent Resident Evil game was Code Veronica. True to the series' story and managed to contain the same "atmosphere" which made the original three games so great. Resident Evil 4 ruined the franchise in my opinion.

Have yet to play Resident Evil 5, but once the alien/parasite/zombiesque baddies start wielding assault rifles it's time for me to throw the towel in on the series.

I think that Resident Evil series is no longer really the same.
They changed the "survival horror" theme to "action-game-with-inventory"
RE4 wasnt even trying to be scary or survival anymore. You always have ammo, you can just shoot everything. Enemies are easy to kill. Plot is absolutely bonkers, sure it was already somewhat loony, but it wasnt full blown loony.

Reminds me of the difference between Fallout and fallout 3.
Sure, there might be funny, half cartoony violence in Fallout, but it was somewhat realistic in its hilarity. Shoot someone with a plasma rifle, they melt. Shoot with minigun and their chest gets ripped apart.
In fallout 3 you can make people EXPLODE with teddy bears.
Shoot in the head with assault rifle and their head BLOWS UP.

IF i was a old fan or RE, i think i would be very pissed off, when they make a sequels that really arent even the same genre.
Sure they might be good, but they arent the same thing anymore.
Not that i really give a damn.
But i can symphatise with old RE fans.

Umbrella's BOW projects were nothing more like a 'side' business to make money, their real goal is to evolve humanity using viruses (come on!) with Spencer becoming their 'god'.[/spoiler:2330138912]

I liked the story, I thought it fit in with the rest of the series quite well. RE games have never really taking themselves seriously in the story department. It is all very "mad scientist/evil genius" type stuff.

Eh it is hard to say really. I have been playing RE games since I was in 5th/6thish grade. Along with Metal Gear Solid it was the reason I originally bought a Playstation.

To be honest I do miss the old gameplay at times but I am also having an amazing amount of fun with RE5. I thought the pacing was great and once it was over I was actually very eager to start a new campaign and do it again.

I am trying to unlock the gatling gun and longbow right now. Going to beat the second hardest difficulty with those and beef up one of the magnums to infinite ammo for a Pro run.

I'm an old schooler RE fan as well and I don't mind 4 or 5. They still feel Resident Evily with the dodgy plot and dodgier voice acting.
While it would be nice to have an old school RE game the mecahanics in the newer ones are really good so it's hard to complain.

Though one question, is H.U.N.K in 5?

He's not.

That makes me sad.

Though the helmeted BSAA agents look like him.

And now to find someone willing to take on the hardest difficulty with me.

I'd be up for it if you're playing on 360.

Me too, I am willing to play re5 with anyone who has a 360. I've already beaten the game, looking to get some emblems to unlock Chris Stars Outfit.

I have the PS3 version if anyone ever wants to co-op.

Just trying to finish off the rest of the campaign trophies. My last play through I did in under 5 hours and got the infinite ammo rocket launcher. The only thing I carry now is that and the infinite ammo L Hawk magnum.

Have not tried Professional yet.

Fuck, it's that short? Sad news to me, as I love RE4 for it's length among other things.

My first play through was about 8-9 hours (cannot recall exactly) and I took my time.
The 5 hour playthrough I was rushing like a madman and made it with 4 min to spare.

It sounds short but honestly it has a good bit of replayability. Mercenaries/online mercenaries, the DLC modes coming up, online campaign co-op, unlocking and upgrading all guns, getting all the figures, etc.

But yeah, to unlock infinite ammo with the rocket launcher you have to beat the game in 5 hours or less. I did it on veteran but I would imagine it would be ridiculously easy on amateur.

I tried tacking Professional with the AI, it is not something you do for fun.

At least not fun in the normal sense of the word fun, fun as in you enjoy dying every 3 seconds because the AI decided to run away to pick up some loose ammo instead of watching my back.

I will add you next time I get on.

About an hour ago I beat the first three levels on professional. One hit taking you to dying and the melee/bullet proof vest doing nothing at all is harsh. I can only imagine what its going to be like when you run into the guys who use rifles near the end.

Well that still doesn't sound good to me. I mean, I still want the game but compared to the length of RE4 it sounds disappointingly short. RE4 on Normal/Professional takes about 20 - 25 hours for me to complete (I never did speed runs though). 8-9 hours of playtime sounds like that of RE2/RE3. Well whatever, if it's replayable enough I might still love it, if it comes to PC, that is..

At some point I guess I just learned to stop conflating game length with quality. CoD4 was a very short game, but it was jam-packed with quality gameplay. I'd rather have 6 hours of that than 25 hours of backtracking filler, when it comes right down to it.

That said, RE5 is a pretty damn good game in both terms of length and quality of content. It's still a little crazy for me to hear people clamoring for a return to the original games' conventions; there's no effing way I could go back to RE2 after playing this.

I don't understand it either. Until RE4, series was a little above average survival horror game that wasn't really scary. I actually liked it a lot in my PS1 days, but RE4 is a GREAT action game with much better mechanics, so why would anyone want series to go back to what it was? Man I want RE5 for PC so bad..

I am enjoying RE5 but honestly I eagerly await to see what they do with the "series reboot" the director of the series said was going to happen with 6.

Hopefully we actually return to zombies? I am getting a bit tired of this Las Plagas foolishness. For me it was hard to take the game seriously when near the end all the infected guys started using assault rifles.

I agree with that Bal-Sagoth guy, but I'd also point out that they were never...supernatural zombies, they were always bioengineered. I'd like if the next Resident Evil game just had regular 28 Days Later zombies (I realize that "regular" zombies are probably more like Romero zombies, but fuck that, fast zombies are better for games) and no fucking gigantes or any of the flying bullshit. No monsters, no bullshit, just plain ol' zombies.

I would be better off HAVING AN XBOX. FUCK.

I have a PS3.

I still think it'd be nice to have a Resident Evil game like that.

If people want the ultra fast dumbass zombies play L4D, I want some game that still does "zombies" at least generally right where they don't run 60 MpH and wail at the top of their lungs all the time.
