Resident Evil: Zombies, Plagues, and Hot Main Characters

Because I've always been a fan of the series, silly movies and bad spin-offs or not, and note that I'm very interested in the latest of the games.

For that, I've decided to play catch up by finally playing Resident Evil 4.

I'm also going to try to play 5, 6, and Revelations 2.

Why?

Because I have an Xbox and they're dirt cheap.

Resident Evil 4
probably one of the greates games ever, tbh.
I wouldn't. they're horrible. especially after playing 4. and 6... its just an abomination.
Revelations 2.
I've heard good things.

Hot Main Characters
I feel you.
  • jill valentine (S.T.A.R.S uniform only)
  • Claire Redfield
  • Rebecca (last name?)
  • Leon S. Kennedy

actually I think that's It. considering all the games that game out that's a rather small amount.

I confess, I felt RIDICULOUS an hour into Resident Evil 4 when I realized I could just OUTRUN the majority of the creatures after the church bell incident.

I'm to the Lake Monster I just slew.

So far, weird controls aside, I'm very much enjoying it.

going to try to play 5, 6
Yeah, @R.Graves is right on the money. These two games are bad, though 5 is more bearable with co-op.

6 is just horrid as a RE game and below average as an action game.

On the subject of controls, I found the PC controls to be pretty good for playing RE4. At least until the QTEs come along.

On the other hand, my accuracy never went below 80% so I guess there's the trade-off.

I remember playing Resident Evil 2 and 3 with my cousins when we were kiddos, when our parents were away. Good times, and actually pretty solid titles with a great atmosphere. These are games I'd replay anytime with pleasure.
Resident Evil 4 had a great, memorable introduction sequence, but hélàs, I couldn't find any interest in it after the first twenty minutes. Oh, and the devs clearly didn't make any research on the location, because Spain doesn't look like that at all :)
Next titles were too cheesy, in my opinion. Couldn't get invested in any of them, unfortunately. If any of you played Resident Evil 7 though, I'd be curious to hear your opinion about it.

I liked the character design of Operation Raccoon City though. Even if this title is pretty mediocre, gotta give credit where it's due.

Got mine in the Gaming Megathread

3 is my personal favorite. I don't think I've ever played a game with a monster that had the same impact as nemesis did. not even pyramid head, though tbh I was never all that into pyramid head and I have no idea why he continues to make appearances when he was James' monster, but I digress. but RE3 was one of the last RE games I played. I think it was like the 6th one I played so I'm sure you could imagine my reaction the first time NEMESIS actually followed me into the next room. I nearly shit myself. afaik RE3 is the only classic style RE game that had an enemy do this. I remember hearing him looking for me in the next room. on several occasions I was afraid to even leave the room.

I mentioned in another thread that I actually tried to play the "modern" Resident Evils after initially playing up to Code: Veronica. Then, unfortunately, I chose to start with Resident Evil Six. I managed to get four hours into the game before quitting in both confusion as well as disgust.

sherry berkin got hot though.

also the story is trash and the gameplay is far to action-oriented. you can just melee zombies now. remember when it took a full clip of 9mm to down just one. also eventually the zombies get guns and then there's a dinosaur... just count yourself lucky you didn't get that far into it.

I played Resident Evil, Resident Evil 2, Nemesis, and Code Veronica so the shift to the new system was pretty big for me but I also am an Xbox gamer now so I don't have access to a lot of the in-between games or Playstation ones. I do note I am curious how the characters have shifted because I tend to think of Chris, Jill, Leon, and Claire as the "main" characters of the franchise. I am familiar with the Expanded Universe, though and kind of regret they stopped doing the novels.

So far, I've just rescued Ashley and I have to say I'm really enjoying Resident Evil 4 despite the clunky controls. The fact you can outrun the majority of the monsters is really advice which I wish more games had adopted. I also like the majority of the game is in small bite-sized bits. I'm sticking to a strategy of upgrading my handgun almost exclusively and avoiding fights whenever possible. I've slain the Gigantor creature and I only managed that because of the dogs help since I ran out of ammo and had to finish him off with my knife.

I'm not really interested in playing Resident Evil 6 again, though I might try again if I have to. It does seem like something better watched on Youtube, though since my completitionist habits have been known to betray me. Resident Evil 5 seems like something to give a try but I may just play Resident Evil: Revelations 2 (Claire!) and Resident Evil 7 since just about everyone says it's really entertaining even if it feels more like Silent Hill than RE.

Also, I genuinely hate Jim Sterling's videos but this was actually quite accurate, IMHO. Stopped clocks and all that.
