Resident Evil: Zombies, Plagues, and Hot Main Characters

Started Resident Evil 5.

I actually like Sheva but I have to say I understand where the racist allegations come from for its treatment of Africans. So far, I'm only in part 1-3 and I'm doing my best NOT to play it like Resident Evil 5. The most harrowing part of the story so far was the part where I was mobbed by the zombies in the beginning as I stupidly did not stay in the house but ended up going out to fight them and ended up running out of ammo quickly. I did, however, figure out the way to eliminate the gigantic tentacle monster was to lure it into the furnace and stay inside until it was burned to death, though.

I also like Sheva can treat my health pretty well as long as she's alive.

RE5 was racist because you killed black people in Africa.. They had to add "white" aka albino and i guess the middle eastern looking people to even it out? It was just silly but back on topic. RE5 is actually ok just like RE6 IF you play with a friend. I would never touch either solo.

Hey @CT Phipps have you tried the VR demo Kitchen? I just tried it today and it's quite freaky.

Alas, I haven't invested in a VR system yet but everything I've seen says it's quite freaky.

RE: Resident Evil 5

Just finished 4-1 and I have to say I'm really loving Resident Evil 5. It's an objectively worse game than Resident Evil 4 in a lot of respects, at least in terms of atmosphere and frights but I'm doing much-much better in playing the game. I suspect that was just because I screwed up playing 4. I also have a number of funny gameplay stories from this edition of the story. For example, when I got killed with 4-1's boss at the end while trying to run away from it, which had some cool cutscenes, I ended up missing a quicktime event at the very last second. So, I bought a 10,000 dollar rocket launcher and blew it up in revenge. Which, ironically, gave me a 10,000 dollar gem. Immersion breaking? Perhaps, but the asshole monster had it coming.

I also like Wesker's supervillain attitude in this game and how he's seduced a pharmaseutical lady into paying for his plans.

Masculine wiles at work, man!

Oh and how bad a player of this engine am I? I didn't realize until now that shooting legs allows you to punch and stomp people.

Heres an idea.. An aliens game but with RE7 gameplay. So you will have you're more alien isolation hiding moments, tense limited ammo combat with xenos and a few times full blown Aliens action but not over done. Have it set in a space station or a colony and use the same level design philosophy. So keys, hidden passages, crafting, back tracking and etc.

The first Alien vs predator on PC while playing as marine was one of the best not horror horror game ever :P Loved it!

well I don't. the game takes place in Africa. there's lots of black people in Africa. the enemies are the natives. the natives are black. you shoot enemies. is combat in video games racist now? people reacted like it was a game about being in a lynch mob. I don't remember anything else in the game that could be called racist.

so, literally alien isolation again but ruined with overly action-y combat.

And I've rage quit Resident Evil 5. I can't beat the laboratory tentacle monster. Worse, if I had the 10,000 dollars I spent on an upgrade for my handgun criticals SECONDS BEFORE, I could have blown up the creature in one shot. What a waste.

Edit:

Wait, I realize I keep my inventory between chapters even if replay them so I replayed 3-1 and got the rocket launcher before speed rushing back to the boss. Yes, it is exploiting time travel but it has allowed me to destroy the monster which has tested me so poorly! I give credit to the developers there as that spared me just flat out giving up on this game.

Uhm no? Less so AVP combat and more slower and deliberate combat? I liked Isolation's lack of combat it was just throwing out an idea for something closer to RE.

I feel if they really wanted to push the combat in Isolation that much then maybe they should make a lore excuse like only this type of ammo really does damage to the big proper xenos but its in limited supplies and you may only be able to use things like pulse rifles briefly. You would be more of a survivor of Weyland Yutani's buggery less so a hardcore marine. You might have different types of aliens (and non aliens) and taking out the big ones takes up a lot of ammo and is riskier because it can attract more enemies.

Did you play on Easy?

I always play on Easy if I have the chance. Then if I find it too easy, I can just adjust later or the game generally grows more difficult so I don't have to worry about it. In this case, I just finished RE5 today and had an overall extremely positive experience. So much so that I'm starting up a new game with Little Red Riding Sheva and Safari Chris.

I made liberal use of the rocket launcher and finished off Mutant Wesker with a precision shot with it to the glowing bit on his chest.

I think the ability to fight back against the Alien in a limited fashion would have made Alien: Isolation better even if it would be a little less tense. Hopefully, if they ever get around to making Alien: Isolation 2, they'll take some cues from RE7.

I don't think the game was racist and think it was actually very pro-African ahd some critiques of colonialism as well as the real-life illegal genetic testing which has been done in the region. However, the whole "mask and grass skirt wearing spear chucking" section kind of made me uncomfortable even if it was explained as the Plagas doing what it did to all those Spanish villagers who became superstitious Medieval farmers.

Eh, A:I's latter part had the option of driving off the alien with the flamethrower. I think it would have been cool to have the option of maybe using traps or shooting it to buy yourself some breathing room. It worked with Jack Baker and Margueritte.

There are still tribes that dress in a similar manner today and it's not as if all the enemies in RE5 are tribe members. You can argue it's stereotypical but I wouldn't go as far as to call it racist. Besides, no one complained about how the Spanish were portrayed in RE4.

It's not the game's fault you're secretly a sneering imperialist :P

EDIT

I have started....Resident Evil 6 again.

Thankfully, I can choose from all the campaigns and am beginning with Sherry.

The only weapons in aliens that actually did anything against the aliens were pulse rifles and flamethrowers. Pistol rounds just dinked off of their heads.

Yeah so maybe you could have both pusle rifles and flamethrowers as either very limited or weapons for certain action sections.

Eh, I disagree, I would have enjoyed the game more with the option to drive the alien off earlier. Even if it wouldn't work always.
Really? I honestly felt that once you get the flamethrower the game bevomes Far too easy. And thay not having the ability to drive the alien away so easily would have improved the game greatly.

Well, it boils down to what Yahtzee said in his review of Resident Evil 7. "Would the game still be scary if you had a gun and could fight back? The answer is yes."

However, I think the gimmick was wearing down by the time you killed the first alien and it would have been better with everything after basically as a DLC or something as the game felt artificially long at that point. So, making it easy wasn't a bad thing for me.

I find it more frightening NOT being able to fight back straightaway. Don't get me wrong, having the ability to fight back later on would keep the gameplay fresh but to do so from the very beginning wouldn't make it as challenging. The San Cristobal Medical section on Isolation wouldn't nearly be as heart-pounding if I could just drive the alien away with flame everytime it appeared.

I must be DEEP in the minority because I feel that the game ends rather abruptly and should have gone on longer .

Story-wise I feel it does drag on a bit towards the end.
