Restoring the cathedral

There should be radioactivity symbol over vent at the front of the Cathedral.
And this front should be made with bricks.

But anyway, looks realy amazing. Nice work!

Uh, this is a very early wip that has become obsolete now anyway (because of the 3d model). So what you see there is just to realize how big this thing would become and how it might look / in what direction it will go. All minor details are missing on this image.

No, I am still waiting for the 3d models from brother_soifran. Guess I can stop now. :>

Maybe, some day I will sit down on it again. But in the moment, I don't have the needed time.

It was such a great idea to recreate Cathedral. I hope one day brother_soifran will release his models in public.

Bthw, Cathedral reminds me of Niagara Mohawk Building:

I love the idea of restoring the Cathedral. The current results are some of the best fan art ever made…bloody gorgeous…but has anyone considered how it will be put into Fallout 1 when we can’t proto type new art for the game (makes me want to cry). Please tell me someone has found a way to proto type new art for Fallout 1. :puppy-dog:

I actually had a play around with the Cathedral image a while back, trying to get the thing to work, chopping and gluing it back together in Photoshop…but having the proper models would make all the difference. Where is brother_soifran by the way Lexx.

Don't know, didn't got answer when I asked the last time. So the only way to get it ingame, is to create a 3d model again. I have my old material still, but it was never really detailed, as I just wanted to make the basic as model and the rest via painting tools, etc. If I will try my luck again on the cathedral, I will redo the model. By now, I am a bit more skilled in creating new Fallout art, than when I started this here. :>

I don't know how to add new stuff to Fallout 1 or if it works at all. My plans for the cathedral have been involving FOnline: 2238. But as I've destroyed the cathedral ingame now, to make the setting more in line with the original canon, I am not really in the need of this now. The whole plan has been to merge the inside and outside maps, to make one big thing, which would have been absolute epic.

The FOnline engine supports bigger tiles, so I would just have to create several 500x500px tiles and then it would have been done.

Lexx do you want to pass me the Cathedral work that you have, and I will try to put together when I get a chance. Though it might not ever make it to Fallout 1, I’m sure it will be used in some mod, someday…

Sure, I can send you all the stuff. But especially the left part of the building needs to be redone / adjusted, because the architecture isn't really correct.

Hi Lexx, this is what I made for the Cathedral, its obviously unfinished, but certainly on its way. Can you pass me your files and I’ll see what I can do…after I finish my other commitments. I posted this up in the threads to gather some interest. PM me the details.

Yeh, I am searching the stuff right now. I made most of it in Paint.NET, will try to port it into photoshop psd first. I will send you a pm then.

The Cathedral

Hi Lexx, this is what I made...

I have to say, that the use of the three types of windows, was test for which one to use. Because if you'll look at the video, there are windows similar to the first from the right, but they are not very fitting for the building. So I have used also the yellow and red to see the difference. On the picture with cornice there are only yellow ones. Maybe it would be good to use the them with red but the gray ones I think do not fit there. There is also a geometrical issue with the columns with spheres on top (I'll have to find the files, then I can write more about it). I would say that the cathedral in overall shot is different than the one used for closeups and ingame art.

This reminds me. I think the center / inner corner column thingy on your image (pixote) is too much. If you check out the inside of the building, you just see a normal corner there as well and not this one big thing.

Beside this, I think I agree with Splinter. The grey windows don't really fit, as they feel too blank. If, then the red or the yellow fit the most, I think. But don't know which one is the best now...

Watching it already since a long time. I don't really like it, because of two reasons:

1. It doesn't looks like the original (though, it is explicit stated in the thread that it wasn't the target to hit the original. Just pointing it out, because dude just posted it into this thread) and

2. it looks way too cut-together. The upper front is nice, but everything after that is just mediocre recycled.

Some fine day I might pick up my shit and try again to recreate the original, but this probably will take a lot time... Totally lost the mood to work on it, because the stuff already created by brother_soifran is lost and will remain unused forever. It was just too demotivating for me.

These images are super sexy. Looking forward to seeing .Pixote./whomever finish this :)
