RPGs for the stupid

Arcanum has never crashed for me either and it is easily one of my favorite games.

Mohrg

While on the subject of RPGs does anyone know if "Another War" is worth buying?
Well... Let me put it like this.
It's... bad.

Sure, it has great potential to be a good game and is downright hilarious at times, but the god-awful item hunt quests and hundreds of nazis you have to mow down every damn time you move between maps... its just not worth it.
And 1/2 of the copies they sell have a faulty cd 2 :(

I've played through Arcanum 6-7 times and never ran into a single bug or crash.

Arcanum would of been my all time favorite game if it didn't include magic. I hate games with magic/paranormal stuff. Some paranormal is okay, but atleast have a pseudo-scientific reason for it.

Fallout was just realistic enough to be my all time favorite game. Although, it does have its fair share of BS paranormal crap, but not nearly as much as most RPG games.

I love magic. I have loved it ever since I first read Lord of the Rings back in 6th grade elementary school. In D&D games I almost always play a charming elven sorcerer. In Arcanum I played a rogue elven necromancer who walked around quenching life out of everybody. Of course, that was before I got bored with the game and quit.

The combat in Arcanum was so bad it really prevented me from enjoying the game as much as I wanted to. I tried, I tried so very hard, but in the end I couldn't bring myself to slog through yet another crappy dungeon.

Magic is ok, but I would MUCH rather play a sci-fi RPG, which are sadly lacking. In fact, can anyone name me ANY RPG made since 1998 that is actually sci-fi and not fantasy?

(Star wars = Fantasy, The force = Magic)

Geneforge is kinda sci-fi.

I've gotta check that one out.

Having finished Fable a few days ago, (I got it for xmas), it went something like this:

I hate trains...I agree completely with the Fable one especially, and Baldurs Gate 1 & 2. Those are games you play immensly drunk where your motor skills and cognitive thinking drop to the level of a drooling 2 year old (no offense to the intelligent 2 year olds out there).

Fable was thouroughly angering me when I kept sayting to myself, "what, no alternate route to complete the quest? whats so fucking revolutionary about this game? The ability to be good or evil? Been there, done that... in Fallout."

Wow...I've been away from the boards for a while. Great post Ratty.

*waits for ention of Deu Sex*

Amazed it hasn't been menitoned yet.

Also, the fallout graphs should include all the side-bars.

I happened to like Baldur's Gate :(, but I agree with the diagram, mostly anyways.

And here's Planescape: Torment:

Looks like somebody didn't like the excessive amount of text in the game... The writing was Torment's strongest aspect, in my opinion. I enjoyed every single word of it.

I loved it, but that doesn't mean I can't make fun of it :P. It's my favorite RPG by far, but hey, is there something else I could really poke fun at? Of course, I could make it serious, but what's the fun in that? Then again, your Fallout thingy was pretty serious...

Well, I just drew my own graph for Torment. It's on the first page of the thread, so check it out. Who says I can't poke fun at games I love? :)

Howzabout this, then? I, too, disagree about BG and BG2. They don't have the intricate dialogues of Fallout, but there's no way you can call them linear when you can pretty much go wherever you want and do things in whatever order you like.

Hahaha! Good show with the Crono Trigger.

And Ratty, I haven;t finished Planescape Torment yet, so no spoilers ok?

The ability to request a no spoilers thread ends 2 years after the game's release, Calc. :D

Great thread Rat'!

Have to agree with a couple of differences:

BG and BG2 were actually less linear the 2nd time I played them.

Arcanum was engrossing! Had to play on Safe Mode to avoid crashes. Took me about 5 years to finally finish it as it really bogs down once you get to Caldera (sp) but I had pleasant memories of Fallout once I got to the conclusion. Combat was way too easy or hard though--too easy in Normal mode and too many critical misses in Hard mode.

Morrowind was like going to work--felt like I had to play it because I paid good money for it. Not even worth finishing. I'm feeling major anxiety for Fallout 3.
