RPGs with awful endings *spoilers*

How can you not like the ending of Diablo? I thought it was a great ending, even more so after I played Diablo 2.

I don't like admitting this, seeing as how it's really my favourite RPG ever, but the ending of Arcanum isn't exactly a masterpiece. The main reason being the end boss. Who sucks.

Mass Effect 3.

Yes it's an RPG, and yes the ending was horrible.

I disagree, and here is the reason:

I'm not a professional journalist or game dev, so I cannot say if ME3 is one of the worst endgame ever created, but is one of the worst endings I ever saw in a videogame.
Really, it's capable of beating the ending of FO3, wich is also horrible.
Yet, ME3 ending is worst.

Então caro compatriota e distinto soteropolitano, mesmo com teoria da indocrinação no ar, ME3 continua sendo um dos pióres finais já vistos em um videogame. ;)

Even if the Indoctrination theory is real, there is still a large amount of questions that are left unanswered.

Kimberly Brooks (voice of Ashley Williams) basically said that nothing really changes. All her voice recording for the Extended Cut were simple explanations and the like. Not holding my breath for it, and very much doubt it's going to be IT (thankfully).

Oh, and I also forgot Neverwinter Nights 2. Rocks fall everyone dies? What a capital way to end an epic adventure. The expansion softens the blow (and is generally 100x better), but still.

What I find surprising with this article is the fact that they let the interview of a actress explain some background from the DLC.

By the way, never played NN 2, but don't plan to.

ME3 ending?

Loved it. Unconventional and unique.

The dump I just took was also unconventional and unique. T'was my very own dump, you see. It mirrored my past activities and was a reflexion of my self.

It was still a dump, however.

Great Comparison. I never seen anything that had so many similar values

I loved Diablo ending. It's actually one of my favorites of all time. Simple yet I really didn't see it coming.

I have to say that I was slightly disappointed wiyh the ending of the main quest in Morrowind. The game made me so intrigued by the villain throughout that I expected the final confrontation to be a bit more emotional or something. The weird-faced guy didn't even say anything, just got his ass kicked and died.

I disagree with you there, alec. While the end boss is a disappointment as a challenge, the ending - and the endgame choice that you are faced with - is one that I remember most fondly of any RPG I played, I think, quite a bit more than Fallout's. It is one that made me think, a lot, and the fact that there is a "dialectic" solution to the end fight is a cherry on top. Much better than, say, endings for the Might and Magic series' games, which didn't made me think I influenced the shape of the world that much, nor did they lead into a sequel in any way...

EDIT: Oh, and Revenant, if we count hack&slashes. I mean, did it even have an ending, because for me it just went to the title screen after the big boss fight ;)

Fallout 3: One guys in a coat and a laser pistol with to guys to back him up...WEAK!!!

Fallout: New Vegas: A lethal general in armor and another general wearing a coat with back up...A BIT BETTER!!!

But both are really forgetable in my book, and both could have been a lot better.

I'm pretty sure he meant the original Fallout's ending:

BIS' and Obsidian's endings were much better, in my opinion. You were given a rundown of the consequences of your actions for any major locations that you had visited and companions you had traveled with; much more rewarding than Fallout 3's relatively meager number of combinations.

He talked all the time oO
Just let him talk before you kick his ass :D
Dagoth Ur was kinda awesome, but the battle against him was kinda boring.

Fallout 3's ending was pretty pathetic when compared to the originals and New Vegas. I was pleasantly surprised with the variety of endings in New Vegas. After Fallout 3 I didn't know what to expect. Thankfully Obsidian steered the series away from total destruction, but the jury is still out on that one.

Fallout 3's ending sucked because Ron Perlman seemed unwilling to do voiceovers for quest results that day. Ot was, quite literally, the intro and outro of the usual endings. It was a nice bookend ala Fallout 1; but they couldve at least done a few more ending slides.

Once again, Bethesda don't know much about endings.

Final Fantasy 8 had a silly, convoluted crap ending. Of course the story wasn't much different.

I loved Morrowind for it's intricate weaving of complicated struggles between groups cultural, religious, and ancient. Then it all ended when you beat up Dagoth-Ur and "peace is restored". So much more could have been said.

At least it's not like Fallout Online 2238 where every game ends the same way: murdered by Russians.

Sincerely,
The Vault Dweller

Bad endings usually occur in bad games, so i can't recall that many. One that i kind of remember is Oblivion. I was rather disappointed how casual the whole thing was, it just felt like some sucky sidemission with the main enemy being undistinctive elf. Though technically, i guess it doesn't have an ending, because you're forced into eternal oblivion after it .

Can somebody explain to me what exactly makes a video game a role playing game? Are there certain elements a game must possess for it to be called an RPG? I mean other than a levelling system for example?
