S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear Sky

hmm ive grown the habit of killing everything wherever i come through, so i have to wear 2 guns for the different ammos that drop there (russian and nato ammo). i dont use handguns or smg, and no shotguns... if id use them, i really would have trouble to stay below the 50kg-mark. i found shotguns to be quite worthless, even in ccq... limiting myself to 2 kinds of ammunition and the necessary medkits (~10) plus food leaves enough space for the occasional artifact. normally i keep a "stock" of several artifacts in the bar and carry one of those selected around, since the questgivers always want the same artifacts. comes in handy.

protip: <strike>Shoot the cyber-demon until it is dead</strike> dont sell the goldfish artifact!

After replaying Shadow of Chernobyl a while back, I decided to give Clear Sky another go.
Turns out that as soon as I started the game this time, I had a sort "shadow box" around my character, which moves with me. This was rather annoying, and also made it even harder than vanilla to see when it's dark obviously. Anyways, I managed to get rid of the mysteries "shadow box" at the expensive of the shadows looking a lot more crappy in general, but eh.

Anyways, I've farted around in the Swamp area a bit (great level) and helped Clear Sky take it over. Question though, does anything dynamic ever happen again once a faction takes control? I've taken over the main areas where the Clear Sky patrols go (and you can also get it as a "quest" I've noticed). Except the one near the North-easter Cordon entrance. But now nothing seems to move anymore. Clear Sky is sticking to their camps, and the bandits don't try to push forward anymore. Mutants stick to their lairs. Nothing happens.
Is that the way it's supposed to be? Maybe things will start happening again if I advance the main quest and go to the Cordon?

I'm asking because the squad combat is actually really fun in this game, despite the fact that it's so fucking annoying when your squad mates push you out from cover. It'd be kinda boring if you can basically "kill" an area, and nothing interesting will ever happen there anymore.

sadly, i have no clue. you should try shoc with oblivion lost mod some time. theres nothing more surprising than to enter cordon and being greeted by a bunch of militaries who just occupied the border. or, say, some monolith guarding the pripyat exit in red forest. that rocks.

After a failed attempt to get into the prequel i tried this one out. What i didn`t liked about the first one(respawn times, flashlight, bright nights, etc.) was fixed from what i can tell from two or three hours playing. There are traders who repair or upgrade weapons and the faction wars really add combat intensity. I never liked fighting alone against five times/or more the manpower. Now it`s a little bit more realistic from what i can tell. Overall it`s more like an improved version of their old game, comparable to the step from GTA 3 to GTA:Vice City. There are some small annoyances like the repeating comments from NPCs, especially when you just want to take a longer look in his inventar.

Also, i have found a cooker but there are no women. :drummer:

"This one" IS a prequel actually. :)
And you probably haven't tried Oblivion Lost if you think Clear Sky is so much improved over the ShoC.

Oh yeah, poor choice of words. Okay honestly i skipped almost every dialogue in Clear Sky, so i don`t receive much information about my surrounding.

Haven`t played Oblivion Lost, just tried to fix the problems i had on my own. Maybe i`ll try it after CS. I find it very exhausting to manually add handpicked mods, especially if you have a caliber of Morrowind or Oblivion in front of you.

You don't even need 50kg for equipment, the weight limit is just a hassle for loot (thus money).

i had no problems so far with the weight limit either. right know i carry 3 guns for "usage", have picked up two PK machine guns and a decent amount of ammo and am still below 50kg.

what bugs me the most about this game is the AI though. for once, the AI is dumb as hell, but at the same time has godlike skills with small arms and grenades.
