Second thoughts....

First time out of the vault
I'm a really big fan of F1/F2 so, I was really looking forward for F3 and I thought to use it as a reason to by myself a new pc. Right now I only have a laptop which is not suited for gaming. Now, after reading many posts I guess it is not worth it...is it? Better to wait for Diablo 3 or Starcraft 2 to come out...

Well if you honestly want to try it I wouldn't talk you out of it but if you have the patience, wait for it to reach the bargain bins, or try to get it cheap on Ebay.

Look though various different sources, not just here on NMA. NMA is... well, pretty kneejerk in it's hatred of FO3. The best thing to do is to gather as many different sources of information (NMA included, of course) and synthesize a balanced review out of all of them.

Personally, I'm enjoying it a lot, and when the mod tools come out it will only become exponentially better. There are something like 250 mods out for it already on Fallout 3 Nexus alone, and the tools haven't been released.

I was a big fan of F1/2 and I enjoyed F3 quite a bit... there are some problems with it, but I played the hell out of it (F2 still probably has more hours of my life than anything else however).

It depends on your expectations and what you see is a true sequel. I will say the main storyline is a bit "meh" and terribly scripted in places. The game is "fun" to me.

It's kinda like oblivion, it's kinda like something else.

It's really unpolished, but there are places/things you can do that will give you a very rewarding experience (mainly exploration).

I would say to wait until mods come out. Many things in the game can be overlooked but combat is very unattractive after the first few kills with each weapon type. Perhaps mods will fix it. Also wait for price to go down.
Either way, expect a game that is NOT Fallout 3 and can't become that even with mods. But it will become better and yes, if you are a fallout fan, you have to play it at some point in the future.
I say you "have to" because that will be a big plus for you once the real Fallout 3 comes out (whatever it will be called).

You expect a "real Fallout 3" to be released? By whom and when? Also, it certainly won't be called "Fallout 3" esp. since Bethesda owns the entire IP now :)

Personally, I wouldn't buy a new pc just to be able to play Bethesda's FO3. If it had been Van Buren, I would most probably have looked into upgrading mine, but Bethesda's FO3 is nowhere near the originals and you don't have to play it to discover that sad fact.

Wait for Diablo 3 to buy a new system, I have a feeling D3 will turn out well. And just be smart: wait a couple of months and before you know it, FO3 will be in the bargain bins for, meh, €15 or something like that. That seems to be a more justified price than the +€50 they charge for it right now. By that time, modding communities will perhaps have made it into an enjoyable experience for true Fallout fans. As it is now, it's just a simplified, dumbed down, over-commercialized, aimed-at-the-masses piece of epic fail.

My two bottlecaps.

I'll echo something I said earlier in the different thread:

If you can accept Fallout 3 is not a continuation of Fallout 1 and 2's storyline, enjoy the aspect of MMO/Oblivion-esque exploration, and can stomach the alteration and simplification of RPGs made with consoles in mind, then Fallout 3 is a fun game.

then Fallout 3 is a fun game.

For a while only. I myself find Dead Space , Red Alert 3 and Far Cry 2 provide more fun than FO3. Whenever I play FO3, I have the tendency to fall asleep. :o

I'm with alec, wait for Diablo 3 or StarCraft 2 to build a new system and when you do, pick up Fallout 3 for a bargain (it'll probably be mod capable and have an expansion by then too boot).

I enjoyed the game. With that said, all the comments you are reading are pretty much accurate. I guess the best way to put it is something like it gave me a post-apocalyptic fix but not a Fallout fix. It's not something I would upgrade a machine over but when you do, get it from the bargain bin.

Thanks for the input guys! :) I guess alec, buckle and UncannyGarlic said it like I was already thinking... I will definately play Fallout 3 in some point in the future but I will pass it beyond this x-mas... :D
