Shacknews: Fallout 3 like Oblivion with exploding heads

But this is where the argument becomes one of principles vs pragmatism. Who is going to make a AAA-produced game title that's in step with Fallout's original "emulated PnP" structure? It's a pretty short list, if not toally blank.

And I ask what are the benefits from throwing out a game in a world full of games that are roughly the same.

If nothing else history proves that getting gimmicky with the Fallout franchise will produce horrible results at the worst to mediocre results at best.

I have re-iterated many times that Fallout was never meant to be a mainstream game. The reason why it was so amazing was because it defied conventions. In a world full of easy to play games Fallout has a steep learning curve. In a world full of black and white storylines, Fallout offered a post apocalyptic world full of grayness. In a industry with slapstick humor, Fallout offered humor that was only apparent when one applied some manner of thought.

My question is:

1. Is it really that difficult/non-profitable to make a true Fallout sequel?

2. Have the Fallout (gimmick) games been real sucesses?

If the answer to 1 is yes and answer 2 is no then why bother continuing the cycle?

PS: I also think its great to have people come here that post actively but who also disagree with us. It keeps us sharp.
