I love the look of the style of the movie... it looks cool, retro... interesting... but... that does not a good movie make... it can have actors that I like... but is the script any good?... Only time and someone telling me that it is worth a see will get me to put out my money to see it.

The name... and the idea... spells disaster... could be awesome but... I don't think it will be.

Only YOU can prevent Ellipses.

{giggles} I can't help it... they are my pause button.

Seriously though, I am looking forward to a review from someone who's going to be honest.

I've seen the Ads for this movie, it look like it COULD be decent enough, but that name just sounds like a working title that never got replaced... (Ack! An ellipse! Lady Ronin, you're not alone!)

The robots seem to be ornithopters (Flying machines based on birdlike motion- highly impractical due to weight considerations); the only place I remember encountering these in fiction was in use by Russian Armies on Mars in an alternate future in Robert A. Heinlein's The Number of the Beast.

Someone mentioned DVD menus... I hate 'em! I have a DVD player because there's no other way I'll get good copies of new movies like "Kill Bill" and so on, but I've got a LaserDisc player and an ever-growing collection of LaserDiscs; they're my preferred format.

I for one really like this title, has a lot of personality, and i cherish the fact that holywood execs approved it in the first place.

That is probably the movies defining point...the fact they were brave enough to let it be named that knowing everyone will  .

Sounds spiffy!

Now someone hurry up and go see it and write a review here.

Sincerely,
The Vault Dweller

Don't forget Frank Herbert's Dune books.

I was gonna say I saw a magazine advertisement and the hero was holding a pistol almost identical to the Pulse Pistol from Fallout 2! It had the shape and coloring almost exactly the same!

I found a reference!,

Just in case anyone doesn't know what the YK32 Pulse Pistol looks like, here is a picture.

You fellows should really get out more, I doubt it is a reference to Fallout 2. Rather it is a rather generic science-fiction prop, from old science fiction movies and toys.

They stole it! They stole our preciousss....

I think we ought to wait to see what sound it makes in the movie when fired, to make a final judgement LOL

Saw it

I went to see Sky Captain over the weekend and I've got to say that I liked it. I'm sure most of you have seen/heard the "professional reviewer" spout off about it so I won't bore you with a rehash of what they've said.

I grew up listening to "Old Time Radio" programs in the middle of the night with my pocket transistor radio smushed between my pillows and this story reminds me of exactly that. It's light hearted and not for the "intellectual elite" (aside - Do you have to be intellectually inept to consider yourself intellectually elite?) But if you enjoy the retro feel of a simpler time then you will likely enjoy it.

It's funny, but a number of the CGI creations had the feel of robots and gadgets that were one generation older than what we saw in Fallout.

All in all, if you enjoy experiencing the past and looking at it from their view (not 20/20 hindsight, AKA Historical revisionism) you will likely enjoy this movie.

As for me, I'll be including this one in my DVD collection, not so much for the technical merit, but for the simpler world it portrays.

Well i'm a kangoroo wearing a hat if that's not a pulse pistol!
and it fires the gauss rifle onion rings! :D

I really liked the movie. It kept me entertained the whole way through, and I've got a horrible attention span.

Although I wish there was a little more science or atleast pseudo-science involved. They don't really explain how any of it is possible, even in a fake way.

Great visuals, great feel, great acting. Will also end up in my DVD collection.
