Someone send persian silk my way

Kahgan

Sonny, I Watched the Vault Bein' Built!
I'll try posting this here too, seeing as this forum is quite multi-national. Now I'm on the lookout for some middle-eastern/persian -esque silk fabric, for example a blanket of sorts or something similar to the well known palestinian scarf (only in silk), preferably with a traditional pattern. Rather not very expensive.

If, by any insane breach in logic, there is something norwegian worth trading it for, I can probably easily get a hold of that, otherwise I'll happily pay for it if someone should be able to find what I want.

I'm going to use it for reenactment, it was common practice among wealthier people in early medieval northern Europe to cut strips of imported fabrics like that and sew it on tunics as decoration.

I believe you're looking for the Shemagh or Keffiyeh.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keffiyeh

If your looking for a silk scarf, get a silk scar. If your looking for A Keffiyeh, get one. They're cotton/wool but they're awesome.

Personally I wear one all the time. They're tasteful and useful. Light enough to protect your neck from the sun without overheating you, but in winter it's warm enough to cover your head and face with.

Out doors it's almost a must.

Here they're coming into fashion actually. I've been wearing them for about 4 years now and in the past year I've seen more people with them than ever.

I wear a tan/yellow one with a black pattern. Some of them have tribal meaning so, Just me, out of respect I'd get one with colors other than black cloth, red pattern on white, maybe black on white.

Or maybe get black, at least what I've been told it means you're a killer.
Still, red on white, or black on white I wouldn't get just out of respect

Re: To any guys in the middle east

errr, I don't want it to wear like a scarf, I might have, if it weren't so popular amongst emos and cool-young-student-political-correcters, but Like I said in the first post:

It doesn't have to be any specific garment, it just needs to be a piece of fabric with a traditional middle easter/persian/bysantic pattern, and made of silk.

They make you look like a Palestinian.
They make you look like a douche.

Also, Kahgan, maybe you could try going to a Persian carpet store or something similar?

When I saw the thread title, I half-expected Kahgan's post to be a request for Al'Qaeda recruitment information or something like that.

He´s going to wear a carpet?
Persian carpet stores, at least here, are often run by Turks or middle-eastern guys, who also sell other things from those areas.

Why of course, I'd happily join an organization with the goal of destroying western civilization, only problem is that heathens are regarded as worse than both christians and jews

On a more serious note, I might check out one of those carpet stores, when I get my car running again...

Name threads more descriptively like "Someone Send Persian Silk My Way", I thought this will be a political thread or something in that vein.

I'll be visiting family in Istanbul around this time next month. If you can wait, I wouldn't mind getting a silk scarf with some Iznik texture or something similar for you.

No promises, but when I get paid next week I might stop by an oriental clothes shop here in Beirut...

That would be just perfect, the more the merrier!

What's your upper limit as far as the price goes? It would be kind of weird to use a 100 EUR scarf to patch up clothing right?

that would depend on how much, and the quality I would get for such a price, and how "correct"* it is. These are clothes nearly on the same level as various national outfits, and I wear it on occasions other people would wear a 1000+ EUR suit.

To answer your question more precisely, 100 EUR is a bit much for something the size of a scarf, but I'd easily pay half that for something around 1x1m in size.

*It's for use on something traditional, hence the more traditional (old) the pattern on the fabrics, the better, and the more I would be willing to pay for it.

you might want to double check the patterns and colors before buying anything... would be rather stupid to walk around with Hezbollah colors without knowing it.

PS: enjoy being a scene fag.
