Stalker: Call of Pripyat

and they kept the detector system from SoC.

You mean CS? Artifact hunting was pretty much the only thing I liked in CS so I'm very glad to have it in much superior CoP. Aside from better level design, I'd say it also has way more interesting quests.

As i heard Metro 2033 is more of classic railroaded shooter, also Iam afraid that THQ will dumb it down like they did to SoC.

Well, thus far everyone's complaining that STALKER doesn't have enough atmosphere and story. Metro 2033 will definitely be superior in both aspects. I personally don't mind it being linear, as I'm not looking for a Bethesda-style game here (which most people for some reason expect out of games like STALKER).

What I expected from STALKER was something that can only be found in a sand box world and something that CoP came close to accomplishing and thats fear. Fear of wondering off too far from a safe place, fear from seeing sun fading away, fear of mutants rising from their underground lairs and fear of sounds in dark around you. When I heard first announcements of STALKER I hoped it would be a survival horror game where you will be a lone STALKER searching for artifacts and avoiding combat. The original game was supposed to be like that but THQ ordered that it should be more action oriented (just like whats happening to Alan Wake) and less complicated (original should had some rpg elements, need to sleep, eat, drink etc.). CoP in some cases returned to the original vision but main problem is that the regions are too small, you cant get lost and you cant go too far away from safe place. Since CoP is a step in a right way and I hope that the new STALKER game will be even more steps forward.

Well, I just finished it, and while the last map was a bit disappointing (compared to the rest of the game), this is definitely the best Stalker game so far, imo.

That's with the reservation that I've only played CS for 5-10 hours. I'll give it another go some time, but it didn't suck me in the way CoP did.

started playing earlier tonight and I'm about 3-4 hours in. so far I'm loving it. the missions are interesting and varied and the game for once feels pretty balanced.

I'm always gonna have a soft spot for the STALKER world, that's for sure. I love just wandering around there again.

I don't mind them that much, good for a chuckle every now and then. besides, it can be good to know when someone tells me to put my weapon away.

Apart from some of the generic greetings, "howdy ho" being the worst by far, I don't think the voice acting is that bad, really. Sure, it isn't exactly stellar, but I can live with it.

Does anyone know where the "Fen" anomaly is? You can ask about it at the scientists' bunker but I can't find it on the map.

I'm pretty sure it's the one in the northern swamps.

[spoiler:9f7da3342f]the one where you have to kill some bloodsuckers for a quest[/spoiler:9f7da3342f]

where do I find Veles detectors? I found one a long time ago and I'm using it since it's the best one I've found so far. but I need to find three more for those scientist guys. any ideas?

[spoiler:024c2957ea]I got one as a part of a reward the other two I gave up and bought them from Owl. Which is daft considering the next part of the quest.[/spoiler:024c2957ea]

I'm really glad to be playing a game where it isn't always overly obvious where to go and what to do next. but at the same time getting stuck gets pretty annoying fast, considering I have so little time to play.

currently I'm trying to find someone who is interested in the documents about the tunnel to Pripyat.

i think if you talk to a guy named Garry or Garik... he'll take 'em. he's inside the mobile science lab at Yanov.

There's always Owl if you need to sell documents.

I'm almost at the end now! Raiding the apartment buildings in Pripyat is unbelievably creepy. As someone said, it's the first time in a game I try to avoid being outside at night, and try to get into a saferoom before 10 pm. The things that come out during nighttime aren't very pleasant.

I think this is one of my favourite games. Imagine these developers with a decent budget.

I took some screens, showcasing the graphics (with Atmosfear mod) and locales:

I've talked to everyone in the science lab, and all the people who are usually interested in documents and other info, but no one wants it. I'm guessing I must trigger something else before I get a use for these documents. right now I'm waiting for the tech guy in Yanov to finish with the black box I found in Stingray 1.

victor, what does the Atmosfear mod do? do you use any other mods, and if so which ones? I like keeping my games mod-clean at least the first playthrough, but every now and then there's a mod you just can't do without.

Talked to Nitro?

Hmm, I wonder what their budget actually was.
