Starcraft 2 - It is out there

Fairly lulzy moment in multiplayer, I was hopelessly outclassed in 2 vs 2. My team mate was utter shite. I taunted the enemy into attacking (had a fuckton of thors and battlecruisers, amongst other things). The enemy rushed my defenses (lots of missile turrets, bunch of siege tanks behind bunkers, etc).

I sent a nuke strike on their head while they were piled up outside the defensive wall... Only one enemy player withdrew his units from the area, the other lost all his forces (or close anyway).

I still lost, but god, was it worth it... Nothing like wiping some 30-ish already damaged units off the board in a single blow.

so far it's probably one of the most entertaining RTS's I've ever played.

Ground Control ?

Alphadrop, what was that comic about?
These guys go to a secret Terran base which is researching a bio weapon a.k.a Zergling which escapes and kills everyone except oddly about 3 marines (I guess you gotta have some humies to kill) and they have to clean up the mess.
Instead they spend most of it splitting up and running about, doesen't help two of them wear the same armour so it's a bugger to tell who's talking when they're helmets are down.

I'm hoping it gets GoTY from a few places, to show those console folks that a PC exclusive from a genre that hasn't been very active these past few years can dominate an industry still.

The PC market is VERY active. Its just that many just dont want to believe it (well some gaming mags, press people and a few companies).

Reconite is correct... RTS's haven't been overly successful as of late, so it's nice to see SC2 selling like hot cakes.

there haven't been that many good RTS games recently, command and conquer was a failure from a start, even 3 wasn't that good (after patches) then again that is EA for you, they killed the franchise off, (and lets not mention RA3 as well)

but in general, its nice to see a good RTS out, I got the game but not really played it much (playing FO2 to death) once its worked out of my system (I rate the addictiveness of FO2 and RP as addictive as Jet, so will be a while before it works its way out of my system then :D

but maybe after that, I will give SC2 the time it deserves, but what I have played of it, I like, a very good game, loved the original,

haven't played Ground Control. and I said it's "probably one of the most entertaining", not "this is the best RTS ever!". not sure what you're getting at here.

if you never given ground control a go, and I highly suggest that you do, you can download the full free and legit version from

http://www.fileplanet.com/156136/150000/fileinfo/Ground-Control-(Free-Game)

its a very good game, but they were released in the days of when a lot of good games were out, or been made, I miss those times, now under the age of consoles, and mostly FPS the RTS genre hasn't been that great as of late, a real shame,

Sounds like a Dark Horse Aliens comic, and those aren't much to write about either.

I know the Zerg are Alien/xenomorph rip offs but do they have to make it so obvious by making the same kind of comics?

Indeed thats somewhat true. Many let downs ... or watered down franchises.

Thing is did SC2 sold now so well cause people are desperate or cause it REALLY is that awesome ? Dont know it as I havnt played. But what I heard so far from friends was "its ok. Not oustanding, but not bad either"

it's mostly the hype, actually. SC2 is probably one of the most hyped titles in modern history.

I really don't see any shortage of RTS titles. but then again, I'm not that into the genre.

Hype's the base on which most games sell nowadays (can't say about the old days, didn't check Kotaku as often :P) so that's not surprising. Hyped reviewers that give hyped scores to indulge hyped gamers' launch-day consumism.

Gotta give SC2 a go, but with Mafia 2 around the corner, that isn't happening any time soon. I just believe that when a game has a Metacritic score circling HL2's, something's awry.

well I do.

Supreme Comander 2 ... shit

Command & Conquer 4 ... shit

any anything else. Well There was something else ? Havnt followed it that much recently. But it seems the quality of the RTS titles recently has drooped somewhat. At the moment I am enjoying Empre at War, which has a few really nice things, regarding gameplay and such. The story is not oustanding, its average. And that has nothing to do with the fact thats its Star Wars or that you know the outcome. Its more how the characters are shown and how you interact with the story which is a bit boring (they could have done a lot more from gamedesign, just see how well Command & Conquer 1 did it).

What I miss are games which pay attention to the details. Like Age of Empires, Warcraft (the old titles) and such. Those games havnt been just a short experience and usualy all offered very different ways of gameplay and story telling. Today many games feelt to similar. Or dont even try to tell you a good story (see Supreme Commander 2 ... I mean the first game had already a bad story telling but the seond game really managed to top that)

Never said DR & GC were the best RTS games ever. Only implied they were the most entertaining. ;)

One of my only gripes with this game that they lost that darker/gritty pseudo-realistic unit design.

Just look at the Marauder/Firebat that thing looks like it's from a bad anime...

[spoiler:94cd6e3bf9]And the f*cking ending is a complete let-down.. I was in facepalm position during the whole credits...

BTW has anyone noticed that Emil Narud (the moebius doc) in backwards is Duran Lime? [/spoiler:94cd6e3bf9]

I would love to get this game but I doubt I would be able to run it very well. I would need to get a new Vid card and possible upgrade my RAM aswell.

I could've sworn I recognised hints of Cree Summer (Tandi) in the voice of the female Protoss Executor at Haven...

If anybody wants to add me as a Bnet friend so we can play, PM me and I'll give you my info.
