Submarine Mod

I'll look into it when I get back home. :D
Maybe this will help ;) here's initial shape of the sub (this is in game size):

So, if you want to change/add something I must know it before I'll start finishing/detailing/texturing the model.

There's enough space on the deck for the player and party members, I think. After the sail I'll place few vertical orientated ballistic missiles. On the deck I'll place two animated manholes.

-------------EDIT
The bow section of the sub looks little strange - I've tried to avoid modern shape (like Los Angeles/Ohio class submarines).

Continuum,

70 tiles is ok (just!)

I like the look of the submarine.

Sounds good. Can't wait to see it.

I have a question: How to add new tiles/scenery?

As far as I know I must edit scenery.lst and tiles.lst. But they must be displayed in some order when I open the Mapper (at the beginning or at the end of the list). How to do that?

You have to edit the empty slots at the end, find the apropriate art and/or edit some other entries... And set the proto folder as read only, afaik.

Yes, each piece of scenery has it's own .pro file. The folder doesn't really have to be set to read only, though. Just be sure that, once you have created a new piece of scenery, make sure that .pro file is set to read only before you launch the game, or else it will be deleted.

The sub will have ~ 300 unique tiles. Is this a problem?

The main art (hull) should be finished in one week, I think.

And how to create .pro files? Is there some kind of tutorial?

Hi Continuum
Set the librarian to one in the mapper cfg create/edit protos also make a directory structure C:\Fallout2\dev\proto\scenery critters tiles and others. (C: is the drive where your Fallout game has been installed its important to make a directury structure like above without this you wouldn't be able to save your protos) After you made the protos go to your Fallout folder
C:\Program files\Blackisle\Fallout2\data\proto\scenery critters tile....
And set it contains to read only so they won't get overwritten when you start the mapper or the game. Also if my writing sounds confusing then see the making protos tutorial http://www.nma-fallout.com/content.php?page=fo-modding-protoed
Oh and I see that I haven't said yet, this sub looks real cool I'm looking forward to see it textured

Can't help you guys with the scripting or graphics department but just wanted to ask if you could put in some sort of story regarding the chinese and the war with America, could be in form of holodisks, just like the glow or sierra army depot.
Anyway good luck with your project :D

Hello Continuum.
300 more tiles souldn't be a problem. I remember an old post by Dude_Object where he stated there actually is a limit to the number of tiles and scenery objects you can add in the mapper (engine limits...). If I remember correctly you can add some 800 new tiles, less or more.
You can find more info in a thread by Lich, the title was something like: New point of view.
I hope this helps.
See you.

Tiles

The hard would not be add the tiles, but desing the art for it... If you need help on the protos creating i can help.... Probably you won't need my help anyway, because add tiles is relatively easy.

Re: Tiles

Hello Sirren,
I hope engine will not crash :D When everything will be done I'll create an instruction (in the form of the image in 1:1 scale) how to build this monster :D

Yes, tiles are not a problem. Adjust scenery to them will be time consuming. I'm planning to use tiles from SF docks. I'll start "building" from the ramp (in the place where will be merged with original tiles).

If someone wants to help me...
I need scenery.lst/tiles.lst (from unmodded game) with additional 20 - 30 entries: SUB001.frm - SUB020.frm + .pro files. I'll need them when I'll start adjusting freaking Frame Offset in scenery frms.

Thanks in advance.

----------------EDIT
Keep all masts/antennas in this position or hide them in the sail? What do you think?

I like it as you've done it there continuum.

You know, the whole submarine doesn't need to be tiles. Look at how some of the cliffs are done. Some of the parts are indeed tiles, but the majority are large sections of scenery.

Yes, I know. I was talking about that on the second page of this thread. But the deck is ~ 48 tiles long and 6 tiles wide. I can't reduce the size - player must have enough space to walk there.

There's a way to reduce numbers of tiles and make some of them repeatable, but is hard to translate FO's 2d tile template into 3d geometry (I've tried to do that). I need such thing for texturing. Without good tile template final effect will be bad (tiles can't match one to another). Besides half of the deck has irregular shape, so some of the tiles must be unique.

Really? If so, I wonder that BGE version is still operational (well, at least if it's linked to a scenery too).

Looks like a new, unexplored problem into a future, anyway. :aiee:
